So I decided to look into the drivers side of my car (and the hood), which seems to have been repainted and has quite a bit of orange peel. Hopefully the paint shop just cheaped out and didn't want to sand down the clear, and I can do that myself.

Driver's Door ^^^

It usually doesn't reflect much off of it and the C pillar has a ton of orange peel, but while I was taking pictures I noticed it didn't look as bad as it usually does...anyways here's some pics.

C-Pillar ^^
Would a wet sand and buffing fix it? I'm worried that it's going to need a repaint because it just doesn't really reflect anything...it's all dull and blurry! :/ I really want to make this thing shine and stand out since there are only like 2 Audis in my town. Thanks :D
And sorry for the sideways pics, but it's not like that really matters :o.k:

Yeah if you flat it back then bring it back up with a polisher it should be ok then.

hell thats bad they let it out the paint shop that way its any easy fix thought a good rubing compond like g3 will fix it just watch you dont burn the paint if you are using a buffer keep it damp.
also if you need to take it to any body shop and just ask them to do it would not cost you much and worst is you have to have the clear coat done not going to cost much at all.

How much would you think it would be? I've never had any body work like that done before and I'm in the middle of looking for an apartment and I have VERY little room for spending money :/ Thanks

Mate that panel need's wet sanding, we done a cobra a few months back and we had no joy with Menz fast cut or 3M so a weeked of wet sanding was needed, well worth the effort. Check out our thread and see the results.

pic heavy

Already looking into it some more! Thank you, and I'll definitely take a loot at that project. Also what would be better, a compound and buffer, or wet sanding? I've never sanded a clear coat in my life so I'm kind of avoiding that path, but if it isn't that hard then I can give it a shot on a trim or the rocker panel to see if I don't sand through the clear

im not sure how much where you are am i right in thinking your in the usa ? but id say £200 id think at a max as its not painting it needs just a clear coat

So I've wet sanded, buffed, and polished and everything seems ok (clear coat wise) but now I can't get my paint to shine like it did before. It's not like super dull, I can still get a reflection, but it is NO WHERE near where the old super orange peely CC was. Idk, if I might need different grades of rubbing compound or what :/ but my fear of burning the the CC is gone, I think I did an ok job for my first time! :D

you can get differnt grades of rubbing compound mate not sure what one you have but i now when i was in the trade 3G had i think 4 grades. if the one you have is to coures it will leave it dull so try pick up one thats smoth or fine grade where ever yo get it from should tell you what one is best and what one you need.

What Grades of paper have you used ?. You will need to refine in 3 stages. Don't use 3G use 3M products along with matching pads, have you taken paint depth readings..

why should he not use 3G or 3M products ?

Use 3M by all means as stated but Not 3G as they are to harsh, dry, hard to work down, Heavy dust and crap to be honest..

oh right iv always used 3G althought was always told to spray warter on it to keep it damp but that was before they brought out the new stuff so there is 3 or 4 grades now the smothest one is not much harser than t.cut

I have never used any water when paint correcting with Compounds as Menz and 3m have oil's to help quick break down and ease of use with very little dust. 3M fast cut 50417 is the most extreme i would use (very little grit) on heavy swirled paint and for surface scratches, and refine down with 3M 80349 yellow finish with 3M 50383 Blue.. Each compound has it's own pad eg 3M fast cut goes with a Green pad and so on . Menz products i use Lake country pads as i find theses the best pads..

oh cool ill keep a look out for them i see where you are coming from i was thinking along the lines of when a car has just been painted they used to use 3G to buff them for any bits in the paint and for the orange pill. but im going back a few years now and im sure there is better stuff out there now days ;-)

Nvm. Gave her a good wash and put on a bit of wax, now she's back to normal and without that ugly OP! Thank you all for the help :D If I have any more questions I'll post it on this forum

good to hear it come up ok do we not get a before and after pic ;-)

I'll post an after when I get back from a trip this weekend! :D Too bad I didn't have enough time to do the whole side, I just got the front area by the tire done, ohh well :p

Ok so I haven't had time posting pics up because I'm never outside during the daytime anymore :/ getting like 120+ degree weather already and I usually take it easy and stay indoors during the summer but I'm slowly working on the whole car. I got some of the front fender and both doors. Tomorrow I am going to try and finish the whole rear quarter panel since that has the WORST texture ever..you can't see ANYTHING off of it!!

send some of that heat/sun over here please ;-)

Your not Wrong. Summer came and went in a blink of an eye.

did not evan start if you ask me had to put the heating on the othere day it was so blody cold here

We are doing winter preps already on customers cars.. Hope ADI is dry

its going to be a cold one this year im sure

I have been there twice this year already, the weather was not to bad apart from heavy showers on both days.

I live in a desert in SoCal and boy does it get hot here. My drivers info display starts blinking during the daytime cause of the heat and at night isn't much better. I'm about to go take those pics, and there is a huuuuuuuge improvement although there is a tiny bit of the orange peel left, I'd rather be a little orangey than burn through my clear.

Rear Drivers Door ^^ Was just as bad as the drivers door but it was all dirty from driving up the mountains so I took an after pic on the rear door.

Front Fender in front of tire ^^ This is super shiny compared to the doors right now because that one has been cleaned with a wash and everything...gonna wash Audrina when I finish behind the rear door and possibly the hood :D By the way, the reason I wasn't getting a good shine was because of what was mentioned above about the different grades of compound. I only had a heavy duty compound which will make everything dull looking and I have a finer meguiar's compound and also a scratch x for light scratches...and this is the result :]

Pillar ^^^ still has a bit of orange peel but is soooo much better than before. I was a little nervous about this area so I didn't sand too much off. Still looks nice though and you can't even tell now :]
