I attended a Chinese wedding today, and traditionally, you get served up a 10 course meal, it's all meat and veg at the beginning, so you never get full until they serve up the carbs at the end.(Apologies to you vegetarians)
Here's what it's all about.
First dish is usually this belly pork, it's all about eating the crispy skin, the meat is secondary, but when you are hungry, you eat it all anyways, as it usually starts @3pm traditionally, and no one has breakfast or lunch on the day to make way for 10 courses! This is the first time I've seen it served with a sparkler on top, so I decided to take a pic, and ended up taking pics of every dish.
The next 5-6 dishes is random, but usually contains a mixture of seafood, with the main event being the lobster!
A seafood dish, not sure on it's english name sorry, but served on a bed of stirfried lettuce and garlic pieces.
Stirfried Scallop, Kingprawns and Asparagus in a Bird's nest.
Sharkfin and Crabmeat soup.
Lobster with Ginger and Spring Onion
Deep fried whole Chicken
Shallow fried Dover Sole
Deep fried Duck with potato pate
Sticky rice
'Yee' Noodles
So that's the 10 traditional course out the way, then the desserts arrive!
Plate of mixed fruit.
Mango pudding and Lutus paste in lite pastry.
Sweet watery dessert served hot to washed things down!
Throughout the whole banquet, you are served a pretty much unlimited supply of red or white wine(brandy if you are hardcore), beer or softdrinks! lol
And now I'm stuffed!
