Time to upgrade my front brakes

OK guys and girls its time to upgrade the discs, calipers and pads to something a little stronger. Ive been looking at 996 front calipers but is it worth spending over £500 on calipers alone ? What are your thoughts on what set up is the best stopping/cost

I have some AP's like tuffty..
Can be built up into 323x28 setup with one piece disks or up to 330x28 if 2piece.. with some suitable nice pads like ds2500 or ds3000

possible thought would the rs6 brakes fit and would they be as expensive can always go with 6pots if you wanna be different the boxster brakes westy has should see you fine

I think you just need to decide on an adequate 4 pot setup Steve. The pads, fluid and discs are the easy part and most swear by Ferodo, Motul fluid, and a disc of your choice.

The other thing to factor in is the cost of replacement discs. I went for the boxster 4 pots because it meant I could stick to the standard size discs which are cheaper than the 323x28 or the 330x28 discs.

It also depends what type of stopping power you need. If you do regular track days then you might want a bigger setup but if it's just fast road driving then a smaller setup may be fine.

Next time you're at a meet you could ask a few of us for a drive to see what the brakes feel and perform like.

For the amount of miles you do Steve, get some used Brembo GT's, tell Dane to sell you his ones!

4 pots on 323x28 if on a budget mate... 323's aren't that much different in price to 312's but you get better braking from them...

Yeah im thinking 323mm's just got to price it all up. to work out cost ise which is the best option for me works with my pocket!

Prawns got Porsche brakes, they ACTUALLY hurt my face when he brakes. They are truly brutal!

However LCR's/Brembo GT calipers are a huge upgrade from the antiquated S3 brakes.

What three things you need to consider are:

• Up-front cost of the callipers & stuff to fit;
• Cost of replacement pads and discs - eye watering cost of replacement parts for some of the more exotic combos due to the small volume they sell;
• Piston volume compared to master cylinder - choose a calliper with a much larger piston volume and you'll have to press the pedal further to push the volume of brake fluid necessary to use the brakes.

On that basis there is a reason why the Brembos - either from an LCR or as the Junior GT kit - tend to find favour.

i will say one thing here, if you are going to spend a lot of money on brakes, do your tyres too (if you dont already have a good set)

If you're looking at Porsche brakes, dont go spending anything extra over a good set of lcr brembos.

The Porsche 330's are brilliant yes, but in reality no better than the Lcr brembos on the track car....

It's all about pad choice! Ds3000's if you want man brakes!

I've got the Brembos from a Clio 197 amusingly, though they're also used on the R26 and R26.R. Mono-block so lighter than the LCR Brembos and have a slightly larger piston size too. It's a bizarre setup I'll grant but it's mighty. I'm running LCR EBC Ultimax disks and DS2500 pads. Only difficulty is getting the carriers and lines made up (fortunately mine came as a kit so I was lucky).

In theory you can fit any calipers you want as long as you can get the carriers. I'm sure someone recently was taking about a place that made carriers to fit any calipers to any car and they were very reasonable It was accompanied by a pic of an 8L with Aston Martin calipers on it.

From what i can tell the clio 200/megane r26.r runs 312x28 5x100 pcd discs, the new megane 250 runs 340mm discs

I have these on mine, very good brakes but if you do get them change the pads for better ones as the Hawk pads are crap
