right had this squeak about a month now...i think its damper or top mount related. but would like some adivse first

started off by just happening whilst going over speed humps.

now its more common, happing whilst i reverse onto my driveway or reverse off, still whilst going over speed humps and just generally squeaking whilst driving on uneven surfaces such as potholes and fields. :banghead:

anyone had this before, sounds like its coming from the rear.

if so what was it? or what do you think this could be?

Thanks

I have a squeak on my car, but I think mine is N/S front. It gets louder as the car gets faster, but doesn't start until about 35mph, but once it's started it doesn't stop until the car is stationary, so I shall be keeping an eye on this thered.

Sorry for the hi jack

i think the easiest thing for me to do is (as i have a standard suspension set up) change for some coilovers as this will replaced dampers springs etc etc and do top mounts whilst at it.

but in worst case senario, fitting this could make it even worse as they will make the ride stiffer...asuming it isnt fixed by changing suspension.

the other worry is i have no idea on how to change the struts...ive rear a few threads about doing it, and im still baffled by it.

i hope your issue is fixed soon...theyre ****** annoying.

id of said yours might be wheel bearing/hub related as its occuring at speeds. but its more of a drone noise not a squeak.

i have coilovers and get a squeek now and then and didnt when had standard suspension just ignore it all i do is turn the music up problem solved as ive looked all around the underside of the car double checked ebery thing and nothing found.

It's not the wheel bearing (I hope) as both the fronts have been changed with the last 6 months.

I don't want to go down the changing suspension route, as I want to sell the car soon, but want this squeak sorted first.

Keep us updated, and hopefully someone will shed some light in the meantime

my car kinda needs a shot of lowerage anyway...id just rather find the issue before hand as i dont want it getting worse....

probably nothing to do with it, but its only ever happend since i fitted my cat back exhaust. i did initailly think maybe to heavy for the rubber hangers. but ive got under car and savagely shooken the exhaust...and nothing. so crossed that of the 'maybe its this' list.

arb/arb bushes.

Me or the OP?

Mine needs some lowering as well..

Can't see it being anything to do with the exhaust, probably just a coincidence

i never thought of arb bushes...ive changed fronts for powerflex since ive owned it, but not the rears!

best get ordering a set of these now. powerflex or standard?

good find. same material as powerflex....what harm can they do!

what size do i need? just went out to my garage and found vernier has packed up?

I had a squeaking coming form the rear about a month ago, couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was so took it to my local mechanic to have a look. Apparantly it was a worn 'stub axle bush', £11 part form audi and problem solved. Its amazing how annoying a little squeak can be!

Stub axle bush? what is this lol? something i can do, or does it require a press?

polyurethane, so same material and might be a bit stiffer or softer.
standard s3 bar is 14mm. but get your vernier working and double check! lol

honestly, i'm not really sure. the guy lives in his own little world so its probs called something else. i'm thinking it might be a suspension arm bush. i was fed up with the squeak so just told him to fix it, only charged me for an hours labour so cant be that hard. obviously it helps if you know what/where the problem part is.....

it is a standard s3 bar, and if i remember when i had it working i measured front and back...14mm was what i had in my head.

but then that ebay item doesnt mention a 14mm. only 15mm and upwards

Grrrr I've had this problem and exactly the same as the OP's.

Ok my 2 pence.

Ive had a loud knoicking clunking coming from the drivers side of the car, fitted a set of coilovers along with lcr top mounts, noise went away for about a week, this morning the cars been making some right noises, its like a hollow/faint knocking/clunking, its so hard to explain, it sounds like its from the front but them sometimes it sounds lik its the rear, its doing my tits in and its only just started today.

This is 'SQUEAK thread' not a knoicking noise so start a different thread pretty please

haha.

thanks for all the comments...i dont really seem to be any further with this though. emailed the seller for info on a 14mm bush and no reply. not a very good start as im a potential buyer...ill be giving them a miss.

i think this weekend im just going to undo, lube, re-tighten as many parts and components and whatever catches my eye. as i need to recheck my dogbone bush as there is the most amazing rattle now...from under the gear shifter area!

my car really is squeak/clunk/rattle mad.

my seats!!!! squeak every single second im sat in it. if i slide forwards or backwards a tad, it will stop. 2 minutes later...SQUEAK.
sorry tad of subject, but they are driving me mad.

reesy why you selling up, also you checked the cv boots havent split and stuff got inside to make the sqeeking as urs only happens when driving over 30mph.

i would go with the arb bushes as karl said s3 feates
