I dont understand the "pointless crap" bit !! Its a card holder or coin tray , it has a point. As for a drinks holder ? Its a car not a cafe ! concentrate on you driving maybe :)

It can be swapped for a drinks holder. There is a post on here somewhere. If you do a search it should come up.

Think before acting, audi stupidly in the 1st place with single dins stuck cup holder above the radio, so in summer or a cold drink, condensation drips downward, need I say more, also, sticking a cup holder in front of your radio in double din solution is a mistake, if you break hard 2 things could happen, bottle with lid may lurch forward hitting the lcd or 2nd if its open can, drink goes everywhere, hence why they removed it from DD imho.

I did this mod a long long time ago but never bothered to writeup for these reasons, as I thought about the implications of it whilst doing & thought I prefer a working radio than a convenient drink holder.

Mine has the cup holder just above the radio and I've never had a problem to be honest.

Your A3 has the multi function steering wheel doesn't it so if you were using the cup holder you could turn the radio up by that you flash mother!

Sorry, I'm with Nigel. I dont think a drinks holder there is too wise. We have hire vans and while i know people dont care if it doent belong to them I regularly have to clean the dash/cupholder area due to spilt drinks.

I like having the cupholder above the radio. It's a lot better than the cupholder in the centre console which you can't use unless you move your centre armrest (if you have one) out of the way.

For me, the only negative about having the cupholder above the radio is that it's infront of one of the centre vents, so in winter when I've got the heating on I end up with warm Apple Tango.
