PaulieMB's Mellow Yellow Progress Thread

Just got my S3 but its a pre facelift (57 plate). I want a black grill and was going to ask if anyone knows were I can get a black optics one from but this looks better. I guess this wouldn't fit a pre facelift?

Hey Graeme, glad to hear you've got your S3 now! Nice one, ..hmm, this grille only fits the facelift dude, just as you yourself thought. :( x

******. I definitely want a black optics grill though so I will see if there is a way of doing that. S3 is brillaint, so much more planted than the VXR. Just not as quick in a straight line. Yet :)

Good to hear you're liking your new set of wheels, lol. It's certainly a lot differentfrom the VXR for sure! Unfortunately the 8P2 black optics grilles don't come up for sale secondhand very often, ..Ebay is full of facelift black S3 grilles for some reason. Dave at Stoke Audi quotes a price of £298.52 including VAT for a new 8P2 S3 Optics grille. Ebay is probably the best place to keep an eye out for one. :) x

Thanks for that Paulie. TBH I don't think £298 is too bad for a brand new grill when you consider that things like Irmscher grills on the Vauxhalls cost around £200 for something that isn't even painted and half the size! I might order one soon :) Power first though! Ordering some spacers and H&R springs this week.

I suppose you're quite right about the price of the Audi grille not being too expensive for what it is, when compared to the VX one, lol. I paid almost £300 for a Steinmetz grille and there was really nothing fancy about it, apart from the badge. There's a lot more to the Audi grilles for sure! x

Wow, what a stunning car.

I've never been a huge fan of yellow, but it works so well with the colour coding and that grille :hubbahubba:

Fantastic choice of mods, and certainly one of the best 8P3's I've seen cosmetically. Great job. Does it get driven (it's unbelieveably clean!)

looks silly nice!

Aww thanks very much, chaps. Believe it or not it does get driven, lol, but it gets a bath at least once a week and a good detail every month. xx

It really is epic - shame you won't be at the shark open day

Thank you so much, Sweetie  xx Ben sent me a lovely invite to the open day, but unfortunately it's just a bit too far for me to drive, but I do hope to get it to a show or 2 next year. xx

Paullie....

Bit late on this but I am lost for words, looks amazing!

Have you had the car detailed lately? Colour looks more vibrant!

Hi Jay, many thanks for your lovely comments. I recently bought some new detailing goodies, CG Blacklight and Hybrid V7 and a mate of mine gave the car a good detail for me just before I had the new grille fitted. It's unbelievable how the yellow 'pops' now in the sun, I'm very pleased with the results. xx

Wow Paula what can I say?! Epic job yet again your a genius at styling!

Beautiful car!

Ive heard of CG Blacklight and Hybrid V7 what are they exactly? Good?

I normally use Poorboys Blackhole and Autoglym HD wax

I love your car btw

Thanks Buddy. Both items had been recommended to me by my friend who is a very keen detailer (same guy that did my carbon skinning for my mirror covers). The following page - both items are sold by CG as a kit, but can be bought separately too - explains them better than I ever could, lol. All I can say is that the results pretty much speak for themselves, the colour is much more vibrant and the glossy wet look gives the paint a lot more depth than before these products were applied. They are much easier to apply than hard waxes too, of which I've tried Autoglym HD, Dodo Wax Banana Armor and Chemical Guys 50/50 Connoisseurs Paste Wax and although I like giving new stuff a go, I am more than happy to stick with the finish I get with the Blacklight and the Hybrid V7. x

Lovely looking car
I was 'watching' a yellow one on ebay but it went just above my budget.
Perhaps I should hve stretched my budget!

Wow .. Your car is stunning!
It makes me want to spend so much money on my car though!
It is nice to see cars getting looked after properly aswel. Keep up the good work

Aww Dazza, thanks very much! I know yellow is a marmite colour, but I hope that what I've done to it has given it a slightly wider appeal, though it's what I think of it that really matters, lol. I love it to bits!! Thanks again for your lovely comments, Buddy. Paula  xx

Oops, didn't realise it had been quite so long since my last update, so it's about time I added a few little bits. As a few of you know, I've been looking into getting some white number plate lights that won't cause any DIS errors, so I found some Polarg bulbs in the US (haven't come across a stockist in the UK) and today I fitted them.

Side by side pic with one horrid yellow OEM bulb and one lovely white Polarg bulb

Polarg bulbs fitted, no more yellow!!!

I've been wanting to get shot of my horrid yellow fog light bulbs too, but because I use my fogs quite a bit up here, in the end I decided against using LED's as they can't cut through fog the way Halogens can. After a fair bit of deliberation I opted for some Philips Diamond Vision 5000K H11's and they are a perfect match for my DRL's and Xenons. Well chuffed with them! Only thing was they cost £50 a pair, so I did take my time before pressing the Buy It Now button on Fleabay, lol!

A couple of months ago I treated myself to a 2011 RNS-E with the glossy black surround. Thanks to Rhymesaka (Paul) for buying my old 2010 RNS-E!

Will update some more stuff very soon, guys! xx

Looks smart, i like those wind deflectors mate, been toying with the idea for some for the sport back but can't decide on it.

Those Diamond Visions, £50 you say? I got some of Fleabay the other day for £22.99 (H7 fitment).

I think you've maybe missed the swirl on that first plate pic. What fog lights have you got in? Only stuck mine on for the first time the other week and they're very yellow.

Looks better with the white bulbs Paullie. Very smart!

Looking very good!!!

If you get a chance can you whack up some night pics? Wanna see the fogs and plate lights and see how white they are before I buy the same bulbs. :)

Stunning as always Paulie. I need to start looking into upgrading to nav. My S3 just came with the standard Audi stuff. No idea where to start though!

Cheers Graeme, don't think it's a big job to swap from standard head unit to navi. Would just need coding with VCDS if you decided to get RNS-E. It's well worth it, especially if you can get yourself a MK2 unit for a bargain price. xx

Thanks matey! Yeah, not so sure wind deflectors suit 5 door cars as much for some reason. The Philips Diamond Visions are cheaper in the more common fitments, but believe me, I did spend plenty of time searching the net for a cheaper option for the H11's, but I certainly couldn't find any. xx

Thanks for pointing out the first plate, Martay. Will sort it now, lol. Philips Diamond Vision H11 bulbs for my fogs, (they are not LED's, so they are still very effective fogs). Like yourself, just used my fogs for the first time recently and couldn't live with the yellow glow, lol. xx
