Hi guys.

I'm currently due an upgrade and have had the iPhone 3GS for the last 24 months. I would like to get the iPhone 5 when it comes out later this year and wondered if anyone else is in the same boat?

It appears that my best option would be to keep getting 1 month contracts with O2 Simplicity for £21 a month keeping my iPhone 3GS until the iPhone 5 contracts appear on their website then get one of those.

Any ideas?

If you got an iPhone and loads of apps i'd stick with it.
You know the phone, the OS, got the apps and happy with it, so not much point in changing really is it.

As for your question, I would stick with the 3gs and wait till the iPhone5.
Will O2 let you renew your contract but upgrade to a iPhone5 when it comes out?

I'm with O2 online which is different to O2 highstreet shops so I think I'll have to call them. It looks like my 2 options are:

1- get a month by month contract till the iPhone 5 comes out
2- get a 12 month contract then get the iphone 5 in a year once the rush has calmed down

Do this really, no point in keep paying a high monthly tariff unless you need the minutes and data allowance. I too was holding out for an iphone5, my upgrade was due in Feb, but the missus fancied a white iphone4, so just got her one of those. hopefully when her upgrade is due, the iphone5 will be out, then I will get one!

£21 a month! That is expensive for a rolling contract. O2 are rubbish, just been on the phone to them this very morning due to their idiocy!

Good luck :)

I'm currently paying £37 a month which has also paid for the handset but now they've stopped their free data they used to do! They are a rip off. If I upgrade to and iPhone 4 i've still got to pay a 1 off payment of £200 to get the handset!

Couldn't you just start saving and weigh up the cost of buying the handset outright. That way you get to choose which provider you use and what sort of price you are paying monthly.
£37 x 24months=£888 plus the £200 that's a lot of money for a phone that is going to be redundant once the iPhone 6 comes out or whatever new fandangled thing crapple bring out next! (she says using the I pad wishing it was the 2 lol)

can you not just stay on the contract you have got and just buy the new handset when it comes out , so that you keep your unlimited data that is on the contract you already have ???

I dont think so because they want everyone off the free data contract and they will want to try and tie me down for a minimum of 12 months again. I'll give them a bell and talk to one of their idiots :)

Leave O2 and go somewhere else.
I recommend T-Mobile rolling monthly contracts with internet booster and buy the phone out right.
Get your current iPhone unlocked (or jailbroken), use it on any network and when the new iPhone comes out buy it cash and hten go over to a sim only deal to save some cash.

w3sty if you get anywhere lets us know fella as mine is due a upgrade at the end of the month and im with 02 aswell

Ok matey. I'm currently reading up on Jail breaking my phone. If anyone has any info could you PM me please ;)

I know a friend whos done this and it looks very good

I've been jailbroken for a month now and it's good :)

I'm on a year contract simplicity plan which is £15 cheaper than my old contract and when the iPhone 5 comes out I can upgrade to that.

Im on vodafone and will be sticking with them, im trying to decide what phone to get when i can upgrade end of next week and its either the blackberry torch or the iphone 4 in white but the iphone 5 is out next month which i cant afford so i wont be getting that

I cant find an official release date for the iPhone 5, I thought it would be closer to November! I'm holding out for it though.

I'm in same boat and just changed to simplicity 100 on 02.
It's 10.50 for 100 mins per month and another 6 quid for 'all-rounder' bolt-on wifi/data.

16.50 all in and cancel at a months notice.
Il get iphone5 when it's out- prob buy outright, eBay my 3GS (currently goin for c. 200) and then choose cheap monthly tariff.
Job done
