Heres a few pics of my new car... got it on thursday last week. and got the new wheels on today, 19" bbs ch-r blacks with 225/35/19 dunlop sp sportmaxx.. Really need it lowered, but not sure weather to go for coilovers or just springs... will h&r springs close that gap? had ap coilovers on my mk5 gti (pic included) and thought they was ok, but quite noisey. Any recomendations on springs / coilies? also plan to get a black grill, carbon mirrors, grey bits on bumpers painted black.. anyways heres the pics

heres my mk5

Looks lovely mate... Any rubbing issues with the CHR? Are you planning to lower? If so when?

Sorry for all questions. But I would like these but I'm worried bout rubbing once dropped?

i wouldnt lol... cruising round town they are fine, but any serious driving on anything other then ice rink smooth tarmac and they wreck the handling, but get them fitted with some matched dampers and then your on to a winner

Thanks for the replies folks.. S3RYE no rubbing issues just now mate, will probz be lowering next month depending what i go for, maybe the month after if its coilovers... Been looking at the h&r monotube coilovers, anyone got these? if so whats the ride like? think it will either be them or kw v1's, i defo need more than a 25mm drop..

if you want a drop of more then 25mm, then you will get rubbing, youll just have to remove the bumper screw (wont cause any problems) and if your wanting more of a drop then 25mm then it will be coilovers you need, if your getting coilovers, KW all the way, you wont get better quality for the money

Looking good. Those are pretty high on the list of possible replacements for the Speedlines, if they end up not fitting.

Wow dude!
They look great. Love the CH-R, great looking wheels. Especially on the Sprint Blue.

I'd say go with coils too or as was said above, match the springs with some dampeners.
I had just springs fitted to my old A3 2.0T and the ride was very crashy.
Will definitely be doing coilovers to my S3 before years out.

Looks good, love those wheels:wub:
Once this is on coilovers will look so much better, optic grille and black wing mirrors and she a winner!

Those BBS CH-R's are BOOTIFUL!!!! Car's looking very sweet dude, loving the sound of your plans for it!! x

Sorry for the poor quality iphone pics. And excuse the mess of the driveway lol

Will be getting the grey bits on the bumpers and mirrors done gloss black next week.

I considered the Golf before going for the A3
The blue on that A3 is very tasty! not seen that before..

Looks good:happy: Sprint Blue S3 with black theme:wub:
Defo need to get a set of black wing mirrors fella!
Where you get the indicators from? ebay?

I am undecided regarding sprint blue and the optics grill - IMO it works if you have dark wheels but in my case with Silver CH's, I do not think it would work!

Looks awesome man!
Love it!

As Boydie said, you need the black wheels to pull off the optics on a Sprint Blue and you have nailed it.
Wish I had dark rims.

Apologies for the thread Hi-jack but I'm on the look-out for some black BBS CH-R's although my recent research suggests they are only available in 19" x 8.5.

I had been whispering sweet nothings (PMs) to Paul aka RAPS3 about his BBS wheels but I am on the lookout for black.

While 19" x 8.5 might not be an issue, I am a tad concerned about rubbing since i would be lowering by no more than 25mm but my S3 is used for every day use and also has Magnetic Ride. Ideally I would've liked 19" x 8 but these are not available.

Any thoughts or help is appreciate. Again, sorry for the thread hi-jack.

Cheers, KKP

KKP what colour is your car?

I only ask as although the OP's car is a damn fine looking machine and all, the detail of the CH-R over the CH Black editions gets lost as the wheels are so dark in colour. Now, this is only my opinion, but justified I think as you'll see from my sig that my set up is very similar.

Depending on your car colour, the anthracite CH-R's are very, very tasty. Granted, sizes are the same and there may be some rubbing issues after a sizeable drop, but hey, gotta give it a go.

I also just happen to know of a set of anthracite CH-R's 10 miles tops from being brand new being offered by a decent gent for decent money. I'm posting this to help as the guy needs them gone and it's Christmas man. Spreading a little cheer and goodwill.

Rico, mine's a Sprint Blue SB MY10

Tidy. The anthracite would suit it down to the ground. I did have anthracite CK's on mine before and although I prefer the design of the CH on mine, the CK (or CH-R if you will) was a better colour for the Sprint.

PM me if you want details on the wheels mate.

Cheers Rico,

I may just decide to go for a 19" x 8 instead - this would mean not going for CH-Rs. If so, will the 0.5" alloy width lessen the likelihood of rubbing?

Cheers, Kirit

very nice car, nice colour combo really like it. I have black facelift S3 with 19" bbs Lms and lowered 25MM on H&R springs with no rubbing even with a full car....and it handles fine regardless of what people say...oh an i have 225/35/19 dunlop sportmax on too! I wouldnt go for coilovers you may have issues plus mine is on its **** as it is!

James, have you got 8's or 8.5's? Have you got any pics of yours? What sort of issues with Coilovers mate?

They are 8.5s and how do i put a picture on here, might sound stupid but not done it before..

Coilovers would be fine but i have a mate that got them and he couldnt go much lower than 25mm without experiencing scrubbing...so in my opinion it is a lot of money to spend if you cant have it fully on its ****! haha
