AS.NET RING TRIP

ah, shame. there was a gorgeous blue one, with carbon bootlid and bonnet for sale for about £2k recently, fully track prepped, cage, seats, the lot. Looked great. Perhaps he should have bought that!

Since finishing the car on Saturday afternoon, I've now covered 150 miles in it, averaging about 22mpg, and it's been absolutely perfect thus far.

I can safely say though, that it's utterly wonderful to drive! I just can't stop grinning. Even in the wet on the way home tonight, it's just perfect!

Only remaining issue is the thermostat, which is currently stuck open, stopping it from heating up properly. I think this is partly to blame for the terrible economy, although that's partly down to my lead boots as well!

Seriously excited now about the Ring trip, less than 3 weeks to go lads! I've even booked my ferry now! (I forgot I hadn't ages ago)

Can we make a definitive list of who exactly is going on our little trip? and possibly suggest a meeting point? Perhaps either the huge BP station just outside the ferry port? Or the service station a few miles before?

I'll start the list:

1. Prawn + BigAl - A3 track car
2. Robbob - Leon cupra
3. AndyP - S40 Track car

(copy and paste and add yourself)

I'm going to suggest folkstone services chaps:

Postcode is: CT21 4BL

Folkestone services - Motorway Services Online, motorway services guide

It's 13 miles from the ferry port, and most importantly, has a Shell station.

We need to be at the Ferry port by 0530 at the latest, so really want to be leaving folkstone services by 0500-0515.

Meet at Folkstone services from 0430-0445 onwards?

1. Prawn + BigAl - A3 track car
2. Robbob - Leon cupra
3. AndyP - S40 Track car
4. Westy + Ad - S3
5. Tam + James - S3
6. Paul + Marcus + Stacey - A5 or a BMW

I'll sort out my lot prawny. We'll definitely meet at the services. It makes sense.

I stuck in a good hours worth of Ring practice on GT5 last night. I've got the first half of the track pretty much ingrained in my brain. I tend to struggle with the section after the Karussell.

I've got a big map of the Nrburgring open on my desk at work so I can keep looking at it and learning the bends.

Have fun chaps, Ill come next year :eyebrows:

Just the top right bit of the map left to learn then Westy! You'll get there :)

I can come out for a pax giving directions too if you fancy it :)

I won't lie, my desk at work is a bit nurburgring orientated too.....

Wicked desk there matey.

I'm doing a good 5 laps a night on GT5 at the moment so I should have it nailed by the time we go. I now know which blind crests I can keep my foot in for :racer:

Oh and this is my wallpaper ;)

I'll do 8-12 laps hopefully. Never done more than 5 in a weekend because I worry about wearing everything out but I have a brand new everything fitted this time so sod it :)

They look good dude :) can I have one for each quarter window? because I'm cheeky like that?

My first Ring branded stuff for the trip arrived this morning too :)

Swish :)

Are we all agreed on meeting at Folkstone services at 04:45ish? I figured if everyone brims the tanks at the Shell station at the same time, it should stop us having issues of people needing to stop for fuel at wildly different times en route!

Last trip, all our fuel stops were staggered, and it ment stopping about 5 times on the way there rather than the usual 1-2 stops!

Yeah that's the plan.

There's bound to be some mild racing on the way to get a feel for the speed of each of the cars i'm sure ;)

All my lot want to do the Go-Karting on route too which will break up the journey a bit. We should still have time to do karting and get to the ring for the evening session.

Sounds good man, if we go that way, we pass MS karts anyway en route, so if we're making good time then I'm cool to stop too :)

If for any reason we're really late at MS karts, I'll probably crack on, as I'm very keen to get some sighting laps done on Friday night. I think MS karts is about an hour from the Ring, so if we get to MS karts by 3ish, hour there, that's spot on. Should do that easily!

Ok, I was thinking that we should knock up a list of stuff to bring with us so that we're all covered with any break downs or any misshaps. There's a fair amount of mechanical experience between us all and there will be at least 2 of us with VCDS so we should be ok but this is what I was thinking we might need:

- Jack
- Rigid Tow bar
- Length of rop
- Socket set
- VCDS
- Spare coil packs
- few spare jubalee clips and lengths of silicone
- Tyre pressure guage
- Rubber gloves

Add anything else you can think of that might be of use.

copiuos quantities of redbull?
Spare driveshafts and brake pads in my case
Zip ties
Race tape (duct tape)

I've had a front right indicator out all year, but I can't be bothered to change it!

Gearbox swap - no trouble
Indicator bulb - feck that!

Got a final days tinkering tomorrow, going to change the dreaded stat, maybe even do this bulb! fit a few random stickers. Give it all a spanner check over before we leave, and then give it a thrashing!

meh. you're all gay because nobody looks in this thread any more!

I drove mine today :) Thermostat is working perfectly, gets up to 90 degrees real quick now, and stays there nicely. so that's me hapy!

Also, bizzarely, since replacing the fuse for my interior lights, I've not had the brake light warning lamp come on again, which is most strange.

I relieved my door cards today with a grinder to make it easier to shut the doors!

Nice stickers mate. I did that when I went in my Clio a few years back. We also bought the little union jack flags to go next to the names too. Proper rally style.

I'm hoping I'll get hold of some Yokohama Advans this week.

Just started calculating the times I need to be up and traveling next Friday :faint:

Be up at 01:30 to get washed, ready, pick up my passenger. Just under 2 hour drive to meet you lot at the services! Might sleep on the ferry lol.

yup, I worked that out this morning!

109 miles to the services on Friday morning, I'm allowing about 1 hr 40mins.

Up at 0230, good strong cup of coffee, and on the road by 3am! Should see me roll into Folkstone services at 04:40. Bring the car on Shells finest there, and we're ready to go!

We should be able to mission 120 miles into belgium to the first Shell service station there, fill up once and have a decent break, then straight onto MS karts

Really? I think it might be 400 miles for me too actually, 120 to the ferry port, then 270-280 in europe.....

Never doing it on a tank though!

i could in theory do 400 miles on a tank, but the reality is, in a group like ours, we end up messing about a bit.

Plus the unrestricted section on the autobahns near Kerpen simply HAVE to be taken at 120+.....

Have just looked and says 91 miles from folkestone services and says 1 hour 45 mins but should be able to breeze that at that time in the morning but think will leave at around 3 to be sure :)

Am really hoping weather holds out as been following the weather for there and spa for last few weeks and not been pretty most of the time but got a strong feeling i'm going to be getting a bit wet at spa this weekend?

Just changed spark plugs and coil packs and checked over a few nuts and bolts in preparation. Also checked to make sure the S3 wheels do clear the boxster calipers, which they do. Hopefully the track rubber will turn up tomorrow so will be on the rims by Wednesday. Just need to clean the car in the next 3 days.

Lads, my mate Paul who is coming with us in a white A5 has phoned up the Pistenklause Steak Restaurant and booked a table for 20:30 on the Saturday night so we can all eat together, eat great steak, and drink great beer :beerchug:

cracking idea! We usually go to PK on our last night, but having such a big group, booking is a brilliant idea. Any idea how many places he booked?

Really looking forward to a steak on a stone again! Hopefully Jochen will be there with pictures again

Think he booked for 13 people so we'll all get in :)

Oh and you know I said I was ready for the trip, well now I am ;)
