RNS-E Bluetooth

Hi there I've recently fitted an Audi RNS-E head unit and want to fit the Bluetooth unit so I can use my iphone phone through it.
I've been looking on eBay and have seen that there seems to be several different part numbers, will any of the Bluetooth unit's work or do I need to match the part numbers?

Also does the Bluetooth device allow me to play my MP3's from my phone as well?

If it matters my car is a 2004 54reg A4.

The part number of the BT modules are 8P0 862 335 + suffix.

The following suffix will not work with the rns-e A, D & E.
Also watch out for K as that unit has known firmware issues which cause the unit to fail & drain the battery, some of these units were flashed with later firmware and have a Q suffix.

No you won't be able to play music and B5nut has left the best options out.

The latest bluetooth modules are 8P1 862 335 and A versions with SW 650 and 660 respectively

The 8P1 units don't come up that often on the bay and they are usualy at top price, so may as well buy new from the dealer. There are units from Hungary & Poland which are not a bad price, but you can get 8P0 unit for around £80, buy the mic & BT antenna for around £20 and a wiring harness for £35 (cheaper if you can make one yourself) and you have a Audi BT setup for under £150. You will also need vcds to code the BT module, RNS-E & instrument cluster.

On a slightly related note, are there *any* OEM options for getting tunes over bluetooth in an A3? My car's got BT from the factory, but just for calling as you'd expect. The irksome thing is that I have mates with cheaper motors whos BT is all singing and dancing by comparison. The other thing is that my iPhone seems to indicate that the Audi BT supports audio but doesnt appear to do anything with it.

No OEM solutions. I would guess you could make an A2DP solution that would work through the AUX port.

Personally I would not put anything in below a Q, it's not just K modules that fail.

Now there's an awesome idea; a little A2DP BT->Aux bridge. Bet there's loads of folk that would love that for their cars. I assume the Audi BT module is just a black-box, no API or connectors or anything?

All modules can fail, it's just the K module has a known firmware fault. So for look for Q, N, S, AA, or the 8P1 modules as craig has said.

There are some people that have already built A2DP to aux units, pretty straight forward really, just powering it in the car from a switched live and regulator.

Although I'm not a big belkin fan, this is what they used...

The good thing is this belkin uses +5V so a USB car power adaptor whould be enough to power it. I bought one for around £1.50 from ebay.
