hey

im new here :) ive finaly got my A3!!!!! its a Ibis white SB BE MY11 orderd in may!!
just a few questions guys if youd be kind enough to enlighten me lol

i dont think they come with coming/leaving home lights, i was wondering if it was able to be activted or do i need to retrofit them?
also the number plate bulbs, i was told if i fit normal LED's it will flag a light on the dash? which bulbs wont lol?

cheers in advance

Craig

Hi Craig, AFAIK Coming Home lights can be activated using VCDS cable, but Leaving Home can't be done on newer A3's :(. There are currently no number plate LED bulbs on the market that won't trigger the bulb out message, believe me, I've tried many types, lol. However a member overseas (Pretarion) has done a retrofit of LED plate lights, but it involved attaching resistor packs to the tailgate and this means taking the inner trim off and I believe the packs had to be screwed into the body. I have the parts to fit to my car, but haven't got round to attempting it yet. Have a look at this thread. :) Paula x

Welcome to ASN, BTW! x

That sucks about leaving home lights! Miss that feature off my Leon Cupra :(
Need to get coming home lights done though, and still want to attempt the LED plate lights :)

No Bud, those are the leaving home lights. The coming home ones are when you lock the car, get out and the DRL's are on. As you say, it's a shame we can't have them:) x

I found this on here

"I bought a repair cable from my local Audi today, the part number is 000979009E and cost 2.13, fitted and activated it via Vag-Com and its a brilliant very cheap mod to do."

There's a guide somewhere as well it envolves adding a wire done near the fuse box in the dash? Can anyone confirm if this works on the MY11 models?

I know we don't need to add the wire in order to activate the coming home lights, it just needs coding via VCDS/Vag-Com (Central Electrics , then you activate it via the DIS in your car and it'll work. Don't know about the leaving home ones though, Dude. :) x

Mine was activated from the factory, just had to set it up on the DIS. I thought it was a BE std thing ?

There you go, Craig, according to Paddy, as you have the BE you might not even require VCDS to activate Coming Home lights! You may just need to go into your DIS menu and tick it in the 'lights' options. Didn't have this as standard on my MY10 S3, but activated it using my VCDS cable and then ticked it on the DIS. x

EDIT Sorry, you must have posted while I was typing my last reply. :(

Maybe its just a S3 BE thing ?

OH..hang on, you would need auto lights otherwise it would not know it was dark when you were leaving/coming home.

Craig, I don't have Auto Lights either, but I was able to activate Coming Home lights via VCDS and the DIS menu. It can be done, but I don't know about Leaving Home ones, ..this may need an extra wire added to a pin and activation. The thing is because I don't have a light sensor (to tell the car it's light or dark), my Coming Home DRL's stay on for 30 seconds even in the daylight as well as in the dark, which is no biggy for me. Just means I get to admire them when I get out the car, like the saddo I am, lol. If you have Auto lights, you can swap the coding over from Adaptation (like mine is set at) to Light Sensor, so they only come on in the hours of darkness. Hope his helps  x

I will be activating this later :). I also read about putting in the repair wire but not a fan of messing about with that type of stuff!

Well if you dont mind them coming on in daytime i dont see a problem, good luck, let us know how you get on.

Cool guys, it's Central Electrics (09) Byte 12, Bit 2 (0 = Auto Lights, 1 = Manual Lights). x

Guys Im most probably being stupid:ermm: here but i have programed it and it now appears of DIS and gives options of changing the timing in 5 second blocks. What setting do i leave the light switch in? DRL, Sidelights or main beam?? Ive tried all but nothing happens?

You tried in the off position? I've got a 57 plate and coded mine (don't have autolights) I've got coming and leaving home lights. If I remember correctly it took a couple of ignition cycles for it to start working

Ive just tried it set to the off position and no luck. Like you say ill leave it and see if it works after a few ignition cycles. How did you do the leaving home lights? Repair wire or just coding?

On mine setting the seconds to off has no effect unless you go to leaving home lights and set them to on first.

Recoded it as Paula said and changed 0 to 1 in byte 12 but this then wiped the option on DIS. A few bytes further along I ticked coming home and leaving home lights this has put both on my DIS but still no joy with the lights actually coming on when unlocking or locking.

Paula how do you leave the light switch set to DRL??? Did you only code byte 12 or another byte a few further along??

slade, did you do as my post above. Comming home will not work unless leaving home is activated via the DIS on the Factory install
I do have to leave the lights switched to Auto/DRL though..Nige did a thread on this some time ago.

Dude, will have a look at exactly what I have coded over the weekend and get back to you. I thought it was just Byte 12, but will find out for sure. x

Cheers guys all the helps much appreciated I'm going to have another look tomorrow and fingers crossed will sort it

When you say there arnt any LED rear numberplate light that wont throw up a bulb out error, do you just mean on the newer A3's?

I have fitted them to my 55plate with no problems?

I think it's just MY10 onwards. I've tried loads for my 2010 car and none have worked but think 2009 and before work fine

Did you get the coming home and leaving home lights both working? I get my new A3 BE Sportback without auto-lights at the end of september and would like to activate them both if it is possible?

Not yet I've played around with all the options on VCDS and have both coming home and leaving home as options on DIS but they still don't actually come on :(

:( ... bummer! let me know if you get them working!

Is it possible to choose which lights turn on when CH/LH is activated.. eg, sidelights and fog lights only or sidelights only etc.
My car is a 2007 A3 tdi
