I had to replace the window winder mechanism on the drivers door this week, I got an after market part from GSF so I took the door apart when removing the rubber around the door I broke a few of those tiny little oblong clips that holds the rubber to the door.

So I went off to the local stealer to see if they had any thinking that they must have a box of these on the shelf and he may give me a handful oh was I wrong they didnt stock them and they are 90p each WTF 90p for a small plastic clip no bigger than a pin and they come in packs of 6 ha ha

I know its only 90p each but when you need 12 or so I feel that it is a stupid price to pay for such a small thing, there was me thinking they must use these things by the bucket load therefore would have a supply that they can pick from no chance lol

I laugh at your 90 pence...

The small plastic clip that holds the wiper blades in broke on mine... this is not a seperate part and had to buy a whole brand new wiper arm for £35.24.

Ouch is silly that for such small parts required you cannot get them separately I just cannot believe that for a small piece they can charge 90p when you think how much it must cost to make!?

He may give you a handful ? wtf lmfao

Wishful thinking eh, only thought that as with my motorbike I go to Kawasaki and get a whole host of clips and ties for FOC and it never seems a problem for them!

I'm just about to head to my local dealer to get some of them, and some of the bigger round plastic bits that the door card pops into.. looks like it's going to be more then a few quid!

its an audi not much is going to be cheap and def not any thing for free lol

I got some of those a while back but cannot remember how much they cost though.

As for the 90p including the cost of getting these parts to the stealer and the cost versus the frequency of replacing these it is still an extortionate price to pay for one little clip an analogy I get a penny sweet for a penny so how much does that cost to make wrap and distribute?

Ok I appreciate spares are the first place they look to for marking up there prices and I suppose they have to pay for these shiney new dealerships but why should we be the ones to pay for it.

I know im going to get some anyway as there is no where else I can go but I just wanted to share this with you all!

its a rip off, they can post 10 of them for the price of a stamp so the delivery should cost les than the cost of 1. i wanted 4 bolts and 8 nuts and they wanted £56, holy **** i told them they could stick them

my dad told me when i was younger and just setting out into car ownership, son if you cant afford to run and maintain a car then you cant afford to buy it regardless of the price tag in the window. He has yet to be proven wrong, hence i had to part with my Rolls Royce one month after buying it!

Prioritisation fella, I will get the bits just not essential at this minute in time ;-)

One question why a Rolls Royce?

Main Dealers are a bunch of rip off C++T's.. I use TPS only

Just got home, also go some of those plastic thingys for keeping the door cards on... they were 46p each. I have a friend who works on the parts desk... made it slightly less painful for me!

Totally disagree, here, without being all superior, but do you actually know how much dealers pay for allot of parts from audi, if you did, you'd think twice about that statement, take my word for it, they make very little of parts overall & I have seen/am priviledged to see/know there cost prices, its not allot on many items, considering they have to foot the bill for the running of the site, new buildings, equipment, salaries, training, insurance, pension, the list is endless & when you employ someone you find out all these costs aswell, been there, its hard to justify it sometimes, but if you dont then you wont have a business, they have to build sites according to what audi spec aswell, hence using specific contractors/suppliers for materials which probably has an inflated cost aswell, its not as clean cut as many on forums seem to believe.

TPS are literally mail order as such, warehouse & an office, setup specific for parts only, hence there costs are lower & there volumes are higher which inturn can sometimes allow higher discounts, dealers on majority of items cant compete with TPS, but sometimes its not about the price, I still do business with dealers because there are other things I benefit from which easily is worth more to me than a .00005% extra discount :p

As for the moan about 90p, fella, not being funny but are you seriously whinging about a 90p part lol come on, you should have my invoices, then you'll whinge :p

The problem these days Nigel is that people dont look at the bigger picture. What will eventually happen is that audi will stop having a
Spares department as they are being undercut by the likes of tps etc, and along with parts department being lost, you lose the
Knowledge along with it and then other suppliers can charge what they like, and all just to save a few pence in many cases.

TBH we all are guilty at some point of not looking at the bigger picture, but lets be honest here Sandra my friend, you dont need a degree to understand basic accounting, they have bills to pay just as we all do, so they cant do things for free.

Butttt, one of my customers went to audi with an airbag light on after he removed glovebox & unplugged cable 2 days back, friend of mine there said, you silly sod, chuck me your keys & we'll sort that for you, "NO CHARGE" may I add, you cant get that from TPS & some people would charge you anything from £50-£100 for that service, now thats not every dealer, but by rights they should of charged for there time, so by this it swings & roundabouts & they will no doubt get some of his business in the future.

Also Ross-Tech are a prime example, not because I sell there products, but although they charge for the proper systems, you see Sebastian, Dana, Bruce, Uwe & co always freely helping/advising on the forums day in/day out with the hope of convincing (although that doesnt really need to be done) people to buy the genuine kit to do the work they need with car systems, but still people dont think about this when moaning about the cost of the kit they manufacture & sell.

I'm not moaning you understand, just putting things into a clearer perspective :)

Everyone's free to do as they wish, buy what they like, express an opinion as it is a forum afterall :) all I ask is they just maybe consider situations or things a little more before critiscising certain things/people :)

I think dealers generally sell at a fair price, especially in recent years I have found that there is relatively little price difference in many parts whether bought from a motor factors or dealer. Occasionally the dealer is cheaper too. Having said that, on certain items the mark-up is huge, which I don't think helps people's opinions of a dealer.

I run my own business and also work for a massive Gas company.. Do you feel you are paying to much for your Gas and Electric .?? Now on to my own company which is car detailing, we are fully trained whilst many other's are NOT we know for a fact that all the non trained detailers charge way more than us.. All detailers use the same products and all detailers offer the same level of paint correction so why are some more expensive than other's.?? The fact is if companys can get away with ripping people off they will carry on to do so. Many people who understand car's /parts will use other suppliers, people that don't understand car/parts are easy prey.

My local dealer once took my radio out, found me the code for it, in a car I didnt buy form them, gave me all the coffee I cound drink and didnt charge me for the 30 mins or so it took. Sometimes thay can be nice !

I know what you mean. When I changed my CTS this week I bought a new O Ring, 90 odd pence, my issue isn't spending 90p, but it seemed a lot for an O Ring 15mm across!

Some of the parts department are very good and other are shocking, the price of parts is the price of parts if you don't like the cost don't buy german! My only gripe about dealers is the target boards in the work shops, I'm sorry but you can never offer good customer service or customer care if you have to meet time & parts targets, and when you have 6ft high led target boards you know the dealers are trying to get as much money out of you pocket as possible.

I cannot believe that people are complaining about 90p for a plastic clip when they are charging £115 + vat for labour what a joke.

Jay

115+vat i have just spat out my pizza all over laptop. Audi are now taking the ****

Look people I am mearly saying that 90p for a thing no bigger than a pin made out of plastic seemed a little excessive when I could get a box of 100 pins from the pound shop for well £1...just putting it into perspective!

I have had my car 4 years now and it has a mixture of dealer work, independant depending on what it is at the same time as I do things myself...so with regards to affording to drive the car yes I can and I have no problems paying for things I just couldnt believe the cost of these that is all.

Jolly14 I agree there labour rates are excessive that is why for the price of £100 I did a full brake pad and disc change Audi want £500 now that is a joke and there are people out there who would pay it just for the stamp and/or they dont want to try and do it themselves. Yes it is all down to affordability/level of customer satisfaction and piece of mind etc but it is pure rip off as people are non the wiser....the internet is a damn good place to learn from!!!

TOm I know what you mean about silly little bits of plastic being over priced for what whey are because i wanted the 4 jack piont covers for my votex skirts and audi wanted £156 with discount but i refuse to pay that, i just won't put them on my car as i only paid £15 for them and they are brand new and genuine.

Jay

My local dealer doesnt do the work onsite they give it to a company in Cannock who are Audi and Porsche approved!

The thing I object to is paying for "re-designed" parts which fail originally as a result of Audi's sub-standard design/materials. Things like wiper linkages, clutch pedals, temperature sensors, door window clips....etc. Not to mention corrosion.
