nah, you can't take it seriously enough!

GT5 is good, but it annoys me that the track is just too narrow in every game ever made!

I did think the track felt a bit narrow! I just need to know what bends are coming next so I can be prepared. If I driver the track a bend at a time not knowing what's coming I tend to find my track positioning and braking points are complete gash and there's more chance of getting out of shape.

very good point, knwoing what's coming, especially over the crests, is what it's all about!

Just got to be careful when following other people, I once almost landed on top of an M3, when he braked unexpectedly before a crest, and I sailled over it full throttle planing to brake afterwards, only to find he had slowed right down. felt like we were going to land on his roof!

Blimey, that could have been messy.

Worse incident over a blind crest we had was in my mates M3. Blatted it over a blind crest (cant remember the part of the track because I dont know it well enough) that was on a long straight that lead into a right hander. We were doing 140ish, and as we came over the crest there was a man in the middle of the track waving a yellow flag because an RS4 had stacked it into the left armo, across the track and into the right side armco!

We had a new shape TT infront of us that decided he would slow down to about 10mph really early before the guy with the yellow flag. My mate nailed the brakes (6 pot APs) and we just about managed to get the car to slow down before we smashed into the back of the TT, but the back end of the M3 was extremely light and twitchy braking that hard from that speed. It also ****** the dics, thanks!

Basically there was no need for the guy to be in the middle of the track, the edge would have been fine plus the other side of the crest would have been helpful!!! It was nearly an unnecessary pile up!

Ouch, sounds like Flugplatz, fairly near the start, just after the Hatzenback complex, after you've gone over the bridge at Quiddlebach

They sound like places in the Harry Potter books! Hang on I'll get my Nurburgring map out and confirm.

EDIT, yes you could be correct mate. I thought we were going to have an almighty off!

Cherry bar is the local Brothell in Adeneau, about a 10 minute taxi ride from the Hotel, Martin has the number too should you need it.

Prostitution is actualy legal germany!

On a totally unrealted note (honest), I'm also stupidly excited!

Got 2 days off work now to get the car finished and ready, hoping to grind out all redundant brackets and tabs inside, then paint the whole of the inside, then the cage, Fit sliders to my seats, and fit all the cage padding, and change the stat, then it is honestly, actually, ready for the Ring!

I've also recently found out that I've only got 208bhp, so I'm even more keen to set a decent lap time :)

It's sexy time!

Just got to fit these when the pads arrive then clean injectors and do and engine oil and filter change, bring it on :racer:

NICE!!!!!!!!

Glad you're getting decent pads for them dude......

Compared to the DS3000's on the track car, my 996 brakes with ATE 'fast road' pads, are really very average.....

I have sad news I'm afraid :(

I've been forced to get DS2500s due to Ferrodo being out of stock of DS3000s till mid September. Gits :(

Still better than running standard pads dude! by a mile!

I ran Pagid RS19's on my porsche brakes for my ring trip last year, and tehy were incredible. The pagids then wore out, and I fitted some ATE fast road pads.

Initial bite and stopping power is still brilliant, and I've not ever had to rely on them more than once, but at the end of a long stop from high speed, I get the distinct feeling they're on the verge of fading.....

The DS3000's on LCR's though, are simply stupid. Every single time, lap after lap they just rip your face off.

I had a feeling that was what you ment lol :eyebrows:

Ds2500's should be alright had them on the front of mine and never really had any issues ;)

Well they were excellent last year on my single piston S3 calippers so on the 4 pot Boxster calippers they should be superb. I just wanted to experience my face being ripped off :(

Dont worry Westy, I'll rip your face off for you :)

Started painting today.....

I definitely prefer working with spanners!

Did 5 laps of the ring on GT5 last night in my Ming Blue S3 280bhp :)

Got my best time 8:54 down to 8:38 as I'm starting to remember sections of the track and getting smoother through the bends. I can now come to most bends and I know what awaits me ahead :racer:

That's amazingly close to my virtual best lap time dude! My virtual best is 08:36

Although, my virtual best comes from Harrys Lap timer putting together my 5 best actual sectors, so it's almost a real time, but not quite! Definitely keen to beat it this time around

My time on GT5 is for the whole ring not just bridge to gantry so it's a bit longer. I doubt I'll get anywhere near breaking 9 mins in real life.

The cage looks brilliant mate.

I’ll see your Boxster fronts and 312 discs behind B6 S4 Avus wheels, and raise you my 996 911 fronts and 330mm discs behind B6 S4 Avus reps ;)

you're right dude :p Mine arn't actually that great with my now worn out discs, and standard pads!

I'll be very interested to see how your porsche brakes cope on the Ring too, I ran the A3 with 312's and DS2500's on the S3 calipers, and they were good, but started to fade towards the end of a lap.

Hopefully the lighter porsche calipers will dissipate the heat much better :)

My S3s with DS2500s last year were good for the lap times I was putting in. I always let the car cool down for 30 mins between laps so I'm sure the Boxsters will be fine.

yea, I had to do the same! at LEAST 30 mins between laps to have any chance of keeping the brakes working!

The way it's all setup now though, I can just lap back to back, over and over again, which is awesome :)

I'm really wanting to do two laps in quick succession too, last trip, it was almost an hour between laps due to track closures, and my P-zero Corsas took AGES to warm up, so until the end of hatzenbach, I was still having to be really cautious waiting for the tyres to warm up.

First lap out on stone cold tyres was very interesting, braking into T13, expecting grip, and just getting horrific lock up!

I'm a bit annoyed I couldn't get any track tyres :(

:( I'd have lent you my spares, my Bob's already shot-gunned those for his Leon:

Seat Starfish wheels with P-zero Corsa System tyres. Not much tread left on them, but plenty for a fair few laps of the Ring!

yea he's coming :)

I've kind of lent him the wheels for the trip as a thanks for all his help building the car with me. it'll give him a better experience with all the added grip, and save his road tyres. Then, hopefully, he'll buy the wheels off me when he realises how cool tehy look!

I'm worried that a lap with 18s and PCD adapters might not be the best idea! I was hoping for track rubber on my 17s. I suppose I still have 3 weeks but the S3s are currently up for sale and I'm struggling to find cheap part worn track tyres.

PCD adaptors should be fine man, they wouldn't be sold if they wern't safe!

I've got some 200 / 610/17 clio cup slicks you could stick on your S3 wheels, but they're not exactly road legal :p

I'm not worried about them falling off it's just the 17s directly onto the hub will be much better and lighter.

I may have sourced some new Yoko Advans  Whaiting to hear back.

Went out early this morning, for a nice little drive down the A339 to the West Meon Hut.

Met up with Robbob and AndyP there:

Andys Volvo is almost ready for the Ring Trip now, New track wheels fitted with MAXSPORT RB5's, and the sunroof and gear junked in favour of an alloy plate:

I think he still needs to raise it up to have any chance of survival in the Karousell though!

So, that's our little Northloop Mini meet, and also will be the start of our convoy to the Ring in 3 weeks time, accompanied of course by some of you lovely peoples :)

Niiiiiiiiiiiice!

It's not the dark blue one with carbon fibre bits that's been on Piston heads for a while is it?

No it's a black one with red roll cage on eBay.

He went to see it but said it was a totally shed and you could see the road through the floor lol. He doubts it would have even made it to Germany let alone get round the ring!
