Does a REVO SPS store the factory map ? I know it will store variations you create of the stage 1-2-3 map but does it come pre installed with the factory map so you can revert back if your car needs to go in for anything. If not is it worth a £150 ?
I suppose if Audi reflash your ECU it will enable you to put the REVO map back on ?
TIA

Paddy, from reading up on the SPS switch i think it restores a base map to the car which is preset by revo. I cant understand if it is revos base map or a full factory restore as i to want to know this. i think when they mean stock setting its what they preset and not what it was from factory.

The SPS features variable boost, throttle, timing and fuel adjustment for certain vehicles (check functionality of your vehicle via the SPS functionality link) allowing the user to set the car up to run efficiently with any fuel quality and in varying conditions. To use the SPS as a diagnostic port interface with the SPS+ PC based software you will need a USB cable. With SPS+ software Boost, throttle, timing and fuel adjustments can be uploaded directly to the ECU using the software communication mode. The SPS has a stock mode and 3 "user based" modes. These modes allow the user to custom configure their performance settings and upload them to the SPS. Changes to ECU settings can then be made using just the SPS. These saved settings can be changed and re-saved using the software as your mechanical upgrades or environmental conditions permit. Combined with the ability to revert to stock programming, and our unique anti-theft mode, the SPS is unmatched in its ability to provide the highest levels of control and flexibility.

I will check on Monday as mines booked in lunch time and let you know then mate unless someone else has the answer here first.

In answer to your question Paddy:

The SPS does not store the factory map, it allows you to run the Revo software in "stock" mode which is a less powered version of the revo map, not the actual factory one. The SPS cannot and does not actually switch entire maps nor can it flash an ECU so if your map is overwritten by a dealer update it cannot be reinstated by the SPS.

Shark's STS units actually reflashes the ECU and so when you put it back to stock it actually IS stock, 100%.

Thanks girls.
I suppose i am just lazy but as i have a REVO agent 200 yrds down the road its just convenient if i have problems. Also want him to do the service schedule on the car despite it being new i simply dont have any faith in Audi "techs" after the 3.2 cam chain farce.
TBH im not a fast driver any more which is born out by the fact that i am getting well over 30mpg from the S3 its just that there are times when, like this afternoon some **** in a old Focus with a dustbin exhaust wants to play, and i dont want to be embarrassed :lmfao:so basically the car will have an easy life despite being mapped and will get more than its fair share of Mobil 1 :) to swig.
If i have issues i can always over write the REVO with Shark later.

OK..back to the knitting :)

Dude, do you really think you were the one who should feel embarassed, I'm no badge snob, but dustbin exhaust on a focus, kinda says it all, I would of let him drive by & only when I want to give it some beans I would, not because some little cockerel in his shell suit wants to make his **** feel bigger than it actually is :)

Well i did let him drive by at the start of a 6 mile duel carriage way.... strangely i then over took him in the cue to the round about 10 mins later. :) which says something.

No only joking really Nige its just nice to have the extra oumph if you need it but in this part of Surrey it not often you get the chance of going any faster than the car in front anyway. :)
The only reason i am happy to map it is because i know it will have an easy and loved life with its every need attended to and more. One thing i learnt from my bike building/racing days where oil/filter changes were done every 1500 miles is....you cant change the oil often enough :) Shame its taken Audi all these years to realise that long life oil is a figment of the oil companies imagination.l

One last question.....promise.
When i start up i get a 3 note chime, as i drive off after 50 yds i get a ding dong sound. No warnings or anything showing.. When i pull in at home it does the chime again and after i have switched off and removed the key...if you wait about 5 seconds it goes ding dong again.....Whats it trying to tell me ? :) Is it just happy ?

I may be totally wrong but isnt that the Bluetooth starting up and turning off???

The SPS will switch to stock maps, it does not re-flash your ecu and as such will not increment your flash counter or change your flash date as many of these cheap consumer re-flash tools do. There is also no chance of your ecu crashing when switching as with many other cheap consumer re-flash tools, the stock maps are stored in your ecu and as such you can purchase a SPS at a later date should you choose. In short software switching is always the way to go, it's the safest way!

Hope this helps and enjoy! :)

So the map is loaded along side the standard map and the SPS switches between the two as i understand it.

In essence yes :) a bit more advanced that that but that's the core principle :)

Excellent..think i need an SPS then, roll on Monday

Cheers

Paddy thats the bluetooth! mine also does this it means your phone is hooked up to it. On your mobile search for bluetooth devices and you will see something like AUDI-UHC something come up, Pair the two and everytime your phone is in reach to the bluetooth it will automatically work ;)

Paddy don't do it mate,I've had excessive wear on my seats since having it remapped as being pinned to the seat when planting my size 11's :)

Oh God...my audi exclusive silk napper !!!...

I will be fine ! i hold on to the steering wheel with my teeth. :)

I had an sps which I kept (and used) on mk4 golf turbo, 8lS3 and mk1 TT all revo mapped.. Loved being able to switch back to standard, mainly so the garage didn't get to thrash it about lol.. Only thing I found with the sps was that it has to be done with the ignition off.. I think it was something like: ignition off, turn switch on sps to desired setting, plug into obd port, wait til sps starts beeping, switch ignition on!
So I started leaving my car on stage 1 so I wasn't tempted too much and didn't get bored of the power... But then you run into a problem - one day an m3 comes next to you, and you want to be on stage 3! so (at 70mph) you put the car in neutral, turn off the ignition, plug sps in, turn back on, voila...! Lol just don't turn the steering while the ignition is off.. This is the only (unsafe)way i found to change the map whilst in motion:scared2:

This was easy on the mk4 golf (obd just in front of gearstick) not too bad on s3 8L (by your right knee) but I can see it being a pita, if not impossible on the 8p3.. The obd port is tucked right away!
