S3 Issue, Engine temp?? not sure what's wrong.

The DIS brought this up earlier, only drove over the road to the shops, car made the 3 beep noises and then this flashes on the DIS.

I had to put a few litres of oil in the car earlier as it was low and just on the bottom of the dip stick. These two things wouldnt be related tho? My Question is, this light wouldn't be triggered by low oil level would it? The DIS brings the temp sign up every time the car is on after about 30-40 seconds of idling. It's never brought this up before so I'm not really sure what's happened or gone wrong. Car sounds and idles fine but I'm afraid to drive it unless my engine goes kablamoo basically =/

Cheers mate, just checked the reservoir and it's quite low, so needs topping up. Is there specific coolant for the S3?

Just did a little search then, so apparently your only supposed to use this G12 coolant from Audi. Was just over asda and they have a bottle of this Prestone coolant for £5 which they claim can be mixed with any colour coolant from any make and model car on the road today. Would it be safe to use? My coolant reservoir is less than 1/4 full at this point. Has anyone used this stuff before?

Top it up with G12, keep an eye on the level and on the floor for any leaks.... if the coolant level drops again then get the coolant tank tested for hydrocarbons and keep an eye on the oil filler cap

Cheers guys, I'll just get a bottle of G12 tomorrow. My reservoir is almost dry, so how much should i be looking to buy? Can it only be purchased from audi/vw? or will euro car parts/gsf stock it? many thanks! Also while I'm at it, what sort of engine oil do the S3 guys run? I just bought a 4L bottle of castrol 5W/30 FS, but was £36owning an s3 annoys me sometimes lol

5W30 too thin bro for a high mileage old engine IMO. You did ask and told you 5W40 fully. You will need to buy another litre of oil also if you plan on changing the oil and filter, oil capacity is 4.5 litres IIRC. Should have gone to TPS, they do 5 litre quantum platinum 5W40 fully and genuine oil filter for £22 lol. Buy G12 from any VAG dealer, its about £8 and mix it 50/50 with water. Hows the car anyway bro.

GSF will have something that is compatible with G12 plus plus. Needs to conform to VAG Spec TL VW 774 F/D

I'll top it up with 5W40 next time, it's due a service in 100 miles so Audi will replace the oil. It's running ok now bro, just getting used to it after a month lol. I get paid next Friday so I'll come down and grab some parts off you ini
