So i did the dreaded thing and had an hour nap, then felt like crap :(

School boy error on the hour nap mate. I'll be up at 06:30 tomorrow ready to jump on my bike again!

Morning smudge, glad you had a good sleep, but you shouldnt snooze after youvwaken, makes you feel horrible. Hope your day goes ok.

Scott buiness miles are charged at 16p a mile for private use as of a company car set out by the tax office. If thats any use. I dont know what it is for use
of your own car for buisness use.I think they have a guidline but its discretionl. Although i believe its usually around the 40p mrk
The government took the amount up to 45p per-mile.
The company I work for and the company my misses works for are still charging 40p per-mile. I'm trying to work out if its an advisory price, like MOTs or whether its enforced or not.

A nap, I don't understand people who can have naps in the middle of the day or after work.
I feel like utter crap afterwards or wake up about 4am ready to go to work.

Smudge, when you fitting them brakes to the car?

Well not a nap, but i snoozed for another hour until it was 8am which is my normal wake up time

Bad idea!!! And i love my naps, have at least 2 a week :)

Errrm i unno matey, need to get another bleeding kit from somewhere but all 3 of my local Halfords don't have any in stock :(

haha I love an afternoon nap at the weekend, especially if i'm out on the town. If I get a decent 1 hour power nap before heading out I can feel like a new man and party hard all night :)

Try not work to hard guys. Catch up laters.

you must have other motorfactors around that you can buy from?

I don't know if any, i'll have a search though

Power naps are awesome!!!

By sandra, have fun. :)

I hate it, I feel like i've been on a weekend bender and have a banging head ache.
Plus its a pain in the *** having to take my eyes in and out just for an hour.

first day at new job! cheeky Hi to the pub ;)

have peeps got camping tickets for AITP?

I got my tickets, came about 4 days after booking. loads of paper work and bits of paper to put on my tent and car. which happens to be the same thing, so this could be interesting on the day.
If it does not work, as in they get funny about me sleeping my car (i have asked twice) I might have to share with a tent person.
Hopefully one with a female cause I'm spooning blokes....................So wrong!!

Good luck dane and hope it works out for you mate.

Ohh mate I have been having a 100% mare believe me.

I've been training the guy who will be on site doing the job I have been covering all last week.

He's picked it up OK, but of course, he appears to have gone home for the weekend and promptly forgotten everything so I have had to rush to Cheltenham this morning to have the day...

I wouldn't mind, but I did write all this down in a ****** checklist and everything IS there! It's just not been followed.... :-/

Anyway, left work Friday avo from here looking forward to getting back on the road this week.

As I said previously, I thought that the TT's water pump had gone.... So I bought a new belt and pump.

After much messing about with it on Friday night, changing and testing thermostats etc, and getting all sorts of funky readings about water temp from the instruments, I decided to do the belt and pump Saturday just to be sure.

Well, it's done, but what an utter bum hole job. S3's belts are tight, but the TT is even tighter. Not to mention that it's a K03 engine and has all the stupid 'Pancake pipe' intercooler pipework in the way. However it gave me a good opportunity to get the pipe work off and give it a good clean out.... A fair bit of oil in there, but that's to be expected in honesty.

It's now had a full service (excluding fuel filter which I MUST do), cam belt and pump. Sweet.

With tthe belt done, new thermostat fitted, and water system filled, I was confident that the problem now wasn't engine side (I know it's not the Coolant Sensor as swapped the S3's over). However, the dash still claims intermittently that tthe water temp is in excess of 121C... which it just isn't. Broke out VAG COM and logged down the road to find out that the water temp is actually 87c (thermostat temp) and that the instruments are just lying. The dash can and will often be at 130c, with tthe REAL temp down at 87c. Annoying... Must be the dash pod really.

Then fitted my new TT 225 Blue Flame full stainless 3" full system I got for it. Purchased from a mate for £150.... Now THATS a steal... lol.

This is the system:

Annoyingly I lost out on a twin exit rear valence on ebay, sso have had to 'Modify' mine for the time being.... It will do for now but needs doing.

Anyway, this is the before and after:

After:

Mating the flange from a 2.5" system to a 3" system was a bit of a biatch.... lol.

Anyway, I now need to extract the dash pod and send the damn thing away to be fixed.....

Yay.

I just had a dent guy over and sorted out the dents in my boot. So happy with the results.

I can now stick my badge back on.

Looking good welly, is the misses appreciating the work you're putting in to it?

Server problem fixed so i'm back in here ;)

Good work there Welly son.

You can use the AC panel to read the coolant temp. It's number 49, I use it all the time.

Ah ha.... this I know.... however the question is, where does the CC panel get that feed from?

I have been using the CC panel to measure temp myself, and that was what made me believe that the temp was actually 120+ degrees.

The CC Panel and the dash temp gauge read perfectly together, they go up and down together perfectly. This makes me believe that using 49C to measure coolant temp is actually a waste of time, because I think the CC panel get's it reading from the dash.

I turned the ignition on yesterday morning, engine completely cooled overnight, water temp must have been ambient. Temp gauge on the TT reaads ~70 degrees. Check the CC panel - 69 degrees. Water pipes in the engine bay - cold. No way was that right. Checked with VAG COM - 22 degrees.

I think I need to do a little more investigation as to where the CC panel does get it's reading from.... because as I see it now there are 2 possibilities...

1) Dash is dodgy and thus the CC Panel shows the samee reading because that is it's source.

2) Wiring from the CTS is bad somewhere in the loom. Now, bear in mind that the S3/TT green CTS is a dual stage sensor. This is why it has 4 wires coming from it. It feeds signal to two different things. Wires to ECU may be OK, thus correct reading. Wires to dash/CC panel may be bad....

I am considering cutting and swapping the wires on the loom over so the the opposite part of the sensor feeds the different things to see what happens....

Scott and welly, your cars look amazing, well done. Laters.

I'll stop using the AC panel if that's the case, I thought it must read directly from the sensor the same as VCDS.

I've just been reading up on this as I have some time now to do so..... It's looking increasingly like a dodgy wire or an electrical short somewhere....

Westy, I think you are good to keep using the CC Temp method to test temp.... Read below as it may interest you (although it may not), page 26.

http://www.wikitt.org/wikiTT/images/f/fc/TTweakers-Guide.pdf

The key point in there is:

"If the values do not match with the gauge readings, the gauges are faulty."

The key point here is that they do. They are just both wrong.

I will check the instrument measuring blocks later on on the TT and see what the actual output is. I suspect that the Dash and the CC get their readings independently from the same area of the sensor....

Interesting....

Nice, I've been looking at bigger brakes since I've done yours.
Not that I'm going to buy one any time soon but its interesting to see what is out there.
There is a guy on a forum I use to visit that would make customer carriers for £100.
send him the callipers, disks and hub and he will one to fit.
Mate used him for his Aston Martin brakes.

For anyone who likes football, have a gander at this:

Footie doesn't get mentioned in the pub a lot, but this is worth a look.

I'm not a fan of football or any sports really.
But the skill that some of the players have is amazing and my hat goes off to them.
I could watch skill videos all day long with a sense of "Wish I could do that"

I can also do a few, although against mates rather then world class defenders. The one that gets me is the trick at 0:45 seconds in. They guy was/is a genius with a ball, and should be remembered in a lot higher esteem then he is.
