So, after reading others users on here have the JOM coilovers fitted, without issue, I decided they'd be ok for a first go at having coilovers.

Ben at Shark Performance had one of his neigbouring mechanics fit them and on the way home I noticed a knocking sound coming from the front.

Took them back and had everything checked and tightened, still the same.

Went to have an alignment done, having been told this might cure it. Still knocking.

This has gone on for a few weeks now and I've spent time and money trying to locate the knocking.

I was trawling the net a couple of days ago and read there could be a problem with the springs, so the very next day I jacked the car up and had a look.

The pics above are what I saw.

Anyone had this happen to them?

Any idea what I can do?

I'm half relieved to discover this, at least I now know what was knocking! (I think!)

I got the coilovers from DPM but thought I'd post here before contacting Damian.

Does this happen when you make hard turns? Atleast mine did when I had koni co. Only front left though. I hear it's normal.

No, it happens when driving above about 10 mph.

You're saying it's normal for the springs to be hitting themselves and wearing away after only a few weeks being on the car?

it's not normal for spring to touch. Yes you get what you paid for. Personally i would have bought a used good C/O over JOM or Raceland. :(

Thanks guys, just what I was looking for. Very helpful

Are you sure that the coils are hitting each other? That could be marks from installation while tightening up the top mounts.

As for you get what you pay for, you should really have got a bad ride with functioning c/o not some defect.. Have to check part numbers and see if they are the right ones for your engine as you may just be putting too much loading on them if they are touching.

Wow ...I was thinking of getting the same coilovers ....This has made me think twice now......

Spring wrong way round? Sounds stupid but could be.I have these and they have been awesome for the tiny amount of money I paid. Great ride

and me just going to get 50mm h&r as got new shocks all round last year

was just about to say springs wrong way up ?????

how low have you gone? could be the driveshaft knocking?

Not sure of the answer bud, but deffo not normal... i've had my JOM's on for a few months now with no problems. well pleased for the money. Plus the ride is as good as if not better than stock.

Again how low have you gone it could be the arb knocking the driveshaft in which case you need to get some adjustable drop links ;)

Been all the way down and a couple of turns at a time til all the way up.

Had 3 mechanics have a look, nothing loose, no play, everything solid.

Knocks no matter how low.

Deffo the right way up, there's numbers on there.

Installed, the numbers are not upside down.

Also alignment centre confirmed that they're installed correctly

There were no marks a couple of weeks ago when it was up on the ramp at the alignment centre.

Looking in the flesh you can see where the marks corespond with contact, it's eating into the metal.

Looks dangerous to be honest.

I knew I was buying the cheapest coilies out there, but with members on here having NO probs, I thought I'd give them a try.

TUV approved, 2 year warranty, made in Germany.

Could it be the 3.2 is just too front heavy for the springs?

I just checked the label on the box and it def says suitable for 3.2

Sounds like the front springs are not on right or the top mounts are shot?Did you get yours changed ??

Thats right pal :) .I have never said mine were no good just a bit crashy etc ?The build quality is not fantastic . you get what you pay for though and i have had these on a while but they will be off and on ebay shortly(payed £100 for these) .Mine creak and are no where near as smooth as my mates quality ones .I will not be buying cheap coils again ,But i am glad i tried them for myself ..

New top mounts all round when originally installed.

Springs are installed correctly, when u look at them it's virtually impossible to get it wrong.

Alignment centre who fit coilovers all day long assured me they are installed correctly.

Well last time i heard this had happened it was to RS on here ,the installers fecked his driveshaft up ...

Really sorry to hear you're having probs with these coilies Wez :(. I personally don't think it matters how much these cost you as - by the looks of your pics - they are NOT FIT for purpose!! It does look to me (not that I know a lot about them, granted) that they are perhaps not strong enough for the 3.2 you have. Perhaps whoever packed them at the factory put in the incorrect springs for your engine, which is pretty heavy, wouldn't be the first time I've heard of this happening. Have you contacted Damian @ DPM yet, Buddy? I think they need to be returned to JOM for replacements as other people on here who bought them have no probs. Whether you get what you pay for or not, ..this shouldn't be as it is. Really hope you get it sorted out, it's gutting when stuff like this happens and you end up out of pocket trying to solve it yourself :(. x

Thanks for the kind words Paullie, I thought I'd get some opinions before contacting Damien.

When I looked at the springs compared to the S line springs, they are thinner metal which made me think maybe the 3.2 is too heavy.

I'll drop Damien a message and direct him to this thread, rather than try and explain it without pics.

*UPDATE*

Spoken to Damien today, JOMS are going back and I'm getting the V Maxx plus with height and damping adjustments.

Been an expensive lesson, one I won't need to be taught again!

FYI customer service from DPM is second to non.

Thanks for your help guys and gals (well some of u) :whistle2: lol

Good outcome!

DPM seem very good, will be getting the new bits for the next car from him.

Just in case you haven't already, get some new top mounts fitted before getting these new ones fitted as (a) they should ride better in brand new mounts, (b) you won't suffer a top mount failure so soon and have to pay to get it all out again!

Yeah, DPM are really good. Pricebeater, free delivery and excellent after sales care.

Top mounts all round are brand new, fitted about a month ago.

the only thing i can think of is they must be the wrong spring rating as you have got a v6 under your bonnet they must be for a smaller engine model thats all i can think of buddy , is it only happening on the one side or is it both sides ??

i know not a subject on the jom's but how much were your top mounts one of mine has let go and im sure the other one is going too , where did you get them from audi/euro car parts etc... cheers bud

Great news, Wez! Your lovely new V Maxx coilies will be bringing a massive grin to your face very soon and you can put this episode right behind you and carry on enjoying your car! x

Got them from euro car parts with an online discount code. All in was about £50

Thanks Paullie, booked in for next Thurs, if they arrive in time. Apparently they come straight from the manufacturer.
