hi all, im getting a full re spray on my audi a3 1.8T. i want it in blue its minx blue now but want it a lighter shade and suggestions please thanks

A lighter shade of blue? The newer S3's look good in sprint blue, would be cool to do something completely different like that!

This is Sprint Blue pal

might be worth looking at wrapping it. Cheaper and means your paint job underneath will keep its quality for when you sell it. im thinking of going the wrap route ibis with white. Would love a black roof as well. Have you got a price on a full respray?

Gotta be looking at least £1500 for a decent respray! You need to be really keen to go through the bother... As you can pick 8Ps up for 14k now

If I was going to have a respray, I'd probably go for vw toffee brown... That would look incredible!

I have seen the VW toffee brown before, it does look really different and nice, i like it a lot

Ive just wrapped my car, it looks nice, but the hassle that comes with it...
The roof and bonnet is easy enough. but come to the bumpers i gave up, going to respray them instead. That sprint blue is lovely!

Wrappings nice. Looks good and is cheaper. But it is a ****** to keep good! And bird lime marks it instantly!

If i was going for a full car id rather a proper paint job!

It's not often to see a full respray done properly. Even more so when changing the colour of your car. Overall they may look striking, but on closer inspection you simply don't get the level of detail finish required and...for me, that ruins the whole car.

Now unless you know that rare individual who takes pride in their craft - that's a different story and very hard to come by.

I got a quote of £600 for a full wrap. That what off the bloke who done my roof.
That was also any colour i wanted.

Thing is... If i was changing the colour of my car id be wanting all of it done!!
Meaning engine, interior and windows out!

Otherwise in my eyes looks like a cut and shut to be honest.

Just my opinion though!!

Materials are around £400 varies and depends on what type of vinyl wrap u buy, labour is £400 plus

i think im going for mexico blue, its a porshe colour but amazing. my car wasnt in the best condition when i bought it and its got scratches n dints all over, my quote for the whole lot doing in any colour is £500 after 6 months of getting quotes and iv seen this guys work its strips it right back and starts again. iv looked into the wrapping i got a quote for £1000 but the inside of the doors is still the original colour when finished so in my eyes thats not a proffesional finish at all. plus for the sake of just £500 iv got to give it a try this guy is on his **** with his business just like everyone else i guess so thats the reason hes so cheap. take the oppertunity whilst i can n snap his hand of thats what i say

dam right Iain get it done it will look mint, but wont make you go faster so you still wont beat me in a race lol

nope this fella is just on his **** with business so i snapped his hand off basically, you recon its a nice colour then lads yeah?

Yeah definatly a nice colour! Black roof wouldnt go a miss either i reckon!

Lovely colour mate get it done. I can't understand how he can do it for so little including all the prep work and painting the places you don't see. Materials for the full respray must be coming in at about £200 just for the basecoat and lacquer not to mention all of the other bits. He would barely be making any money but if he did a good job for that price then fair play you certainly can't complain for the price. Get some pics of the process if you can: strip down, prep etc. Good luck with it.

Materials cost £400 -£500 for a full respray. I really wouldn't trust sending my car to someone who's business is "on it's ****" as any trades man who runs a business well and provides a quality service stays busy no matter what the financial climate is like. Close friend of mine of sc performance In Taunton charges 2500 to 3000 for a respray and never struggles for work.

Just my 2pence worth

£500 ....oh dear. Very (extremely) good friend of your is he ?

Well, I can see the excuses later.....what did you expect for £500. There's cheap and there's the ridiculous - and that is the latter.

at the end of the day it cant look any worse to be honest, all bumpers got paint coming off, scratched to hell and dints all over so i cant complain really if if he just does a good job on filling it then at a later date get a proper paint job IF this turns out rong i will post some stickys on as im getting it back at end of this week

Dont forget the pics.....

Kingfisher blue...is rarely seen and very nice.....sprint blue is nice but you see loads of 8p's!

Go for Sepang Blue, it's similar to Sprint but not as common. You'll see 1 or 2 8Ps in the colour and it looks gorgeous, but it's a special order colour...unless you order a brand new R8 Spyder in which case you can choose it as a standard colour.

I'd not want anybody re-spraying my car for £500 if i'm honest, my old fiesta is in the shop at the moment for a re-spray in the same original colour which is a flat white and it's costing me £1,300 which is considered to be a very resonable price!

Well, I'm sure when we see the picture it will probably be praises. On closer inspection it may be a completely different story. Not that it's a problem because, I gather, iain would be happy with that - especially if it's as bad as he says it is at the moment.

reasonable it may be for the quaility, but isn't the fiesta worth less then the respray ? Even if it was low milegae and very sound mechanically.

Well to most people, it'd be worthless I agree, but it's been in the family from new and it's an original XR2 with sentimental value. Classic Fords do have a big following though and in mint condition values for 80's Fords are rising these days (hence why I could justify the cost of the re-spray). You'll see a very good one go for £2-£3k (3 on PH have just sold for that kind of money recently), a real minter on PH sold a while back for £5k (a bit over priced IMO), ropey ones go for £500-£1k. Either way I plan on keeping it for some years and the values will only go one way. But i'm happy if I sold it next week i'd easily get the money back for the re-spray and more.

^^^^^^yer its bad but he got it cheep............but its been done now and..........it looks very nice, its not a 1k paint job but for £500 its not that bad the guys done well with it an iain is very happy with it. i saw his face when we went down for it!

*the car was bad before it was done, i made it sound like the paint job was bad after it was done, now the car looks good, just me being a div :)

full respray is around 3-4K this is including door shuts, inside engine bay etc etc. so the whole car gets stripped.
The best thing to do is to go into a body shop and look at the colour charts, there are some amazing colours out there you just gotta find them.
TUK Customs in Hannington nr Northampton would be my recommendation. :)
