Morning all,

I think its time to replace my front bushes, shocks and springs.
The cars pushing 130k and only the odd bush has been replaced, the front shocks was replaced 2-3 years ago for what I think are standard A4 shocks not SE as the front sits higher than the rear.
And the fact i'm replace all front bushes, I thought it be a good idea to replace the shocks and springs as well.

I'm going to buy the Meyle HD control arm set (Is this the correct one? Meyle HD control arm set (116 050 0029/HD)) and after some recommendations on shocks, springs and any thing else to replace or check out whilst the front end is stripped.
I'm not sure on coil overs cause I dont really want to lose the comfert in my ride but would be nice for it to be a little bit lower than SE height.

Any thoughts, recommendations or advice would be great.

Thanks.

Get replacement rear axle bushes while your there. They're only a tenner or so and will make a nice improvement.

I'm sure many people will tell you their Chinese ebay spec coilovers give a lovely ride, but i wouldnt be putting them anywhere near my car.

My recommendations would be either Eibach springs and some good quality shocks like Bilstein B6 or Koni Sports, or a complete kit from Bilstein or Koni.

I've gone with the Eibach pro-kit springs, plus Eibach pro-system shocks for my saloon, but i'm not sure of the availablity of the pro-system shocks any more.

Oh and if you choose the Eibach springs, ignore the recommendations for what car they fit, and look up the front axle weights in the catalog on the Eibach website. I've found they seem to have a spring listed for 4cylinder cars with AC but infact the non-AC springs are a better match to the front axle weight. Yours being an Auto might need the heavier ones though.

If you're not wanting to go with coilovers or anything like that go with the sport struts and some -30 or -40 lowering springs, thats what I ran on mine and it was then more planted and looked alot better.

Ditto rear axle bushes, my old b5 was scary at times untill they were changed

I was thinking of doing the rears at a different time but since i'm thinking about doing the shocks and springs at the same time I might as well do the rear bushes.

I'll take a look at the kits.

Any other bushes or parts worth looking at on the front end with it all apart?

Top mounts if it's all apart i'd say.

I'm still building up list of bits to do and parts and trying to get my *** in gear to buy them.

I got a family member who works for a parts supplier and one of their suppliers is Lemforder, I might be able to get a discount on the parts from them but I'm wondering if it will be worth it.
Are lemforder as good, better or worse than meyle?

Just about to order some rear axle bushes.

fARQUARE, Top mounts was replace just over a year ago, so should be good for now.

still not sure on shocks or springs, might leave them till last in my shopping list.
Also thinking about front brakes as I think I might have killed them a little bit coming down the Pyrenees and front wheel bearings.

Lemforder supply the parts to Audi, so if you can get lemforder bits then great. The full meyle kit is probably going to be cheaper though.

I got a feeling it might be.
Going to try and get prices for it tomorrow.

The front is starting to make more clicks, clunks and the odd knock now, it even started to grown and creak at low speeds. It might do it at high speeds but I can't hear it.
It looks like I'm doing this work sooner that I hopped.

I'm getting the price for lemforder parts tomorrow, if I can get them cheaper than Meyle and they are just as good, bonus, i'll go for them.
I'm going to do the rear axle at the same time, I've PM stoke Audi about prices.
Whats the difference between normal and heavy duty suspension? It mentions it on ETKA, would it be better to go for the HD over normal?

I'm also going to do all new shocks and springs as well but i'm really paranoid about getting the wrong ones or getting ones that to low, to stiff or totally mess up the ride.
I keep reading over what Aragorn wrote but i'm getting all confused.

Sorry if these seems a bit trivial or simple questions for most of you but i'm awful at parts and hate ordering the wrong bits.
So any and all help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I ordered my bushes from all german parts.

What are you getting confused about? The bit about ignoring the recommendations on Eibach springs?

To elaborate, if you go onto euro performance or whatever retailer, and look up the springs, they'll have different ones listed saying things like
"1.8, 1.8T Saloon, no AC, no Automatic transmission"
"1.8, 1.9tdi, 1.8T Saloon with AC"
"1.8, 1.8T, 1.9tdi with Automatic Transmission"
"2.4, 2.6, 2.8V6 without Automatic transmisison"

etc etc.

Ignore these. Find your cars ACTUAL axle weights from the VIN plate or handbook, and select the correct kit from the Eibach website using those figures. I found when i looked that there were two front springs for 4 cylinder models, one was designed for cars with 995kg front axle weight and one for cars with 1040kg. The TQS's front axle weight is 1010kg, so i picked the 995kg spring as it was closest. had i gone on the description alone, i'd have ended up with the 1040kg spring, and the car would probably have sat a little "nose up" as a result.

Brilliant. thanks mate.
I'll get on all german parts and check out the springs.

That might explain way my front end seems a bit high.

Audi revised the damping and spring rates, but probably more importantly for aftermarket suppliers they changed the rear topmount on FWD cars.

AFAIK the top mounts are interchangable though.

fitting any shocks and springs from any FWD B5 on to my Prefacelift B5 is fine as long as I match up the top mounts?
I need to order some top mounts as well, All German Parts again?
