Goodyear F1 Asymmetric v2

I'm now officially fed up with my current tyres (droning and other issues with Michelin PS3), so I'm thinking seriously about converting all four corners to new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's. I've had good experiences with F1 GSD3's beforehand on my 3.2 DSG Sportback (fairly quiet, good turn-in, lots of grip but high wear) although some online tyre sites seem a touch lukewarm in their assessment of the new F1 Asymmetric 2's. They do all agree that the new tyres are better than the original F1 Asymmetrics.

This will be a significant cost (about £450) so I'm hoping to pick the collective brains on here of those who've got personal experience of driving on the new Asymmetrics, before I jump. Any comments, good or bad?

I had the Asymmetric MK1's my 3.2 and loved them excellent life span as well. Best bit was the thick bead round the wall to protect your alloys against light curbing. There is a tendency for the early ones to go out of shape rather than wear out but that might be fixed on the new ones.

Got them from tyreshopper.com for around £380 fitted and balanced. Shouldn't be much more now.
Good tyres, plenty of grip they do seem to wear pretty quickly, done less than 2.000 miles and the difference between front and rear is around 1 -1.5mm
They are much more comfortable and quieter than Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta I had on before.
Recommended.

Also as Paddy has mentioned, they got a nice chunk of rubber to protect the alloys.

Thanks to both of you for your comments. I guess that the new Asymmetric 2s are still too new in the market for a long term assessment. I note what SAiLO says about wear.

A peculiarity with my 3.2 (standard sport suspension with standard 17" rims) is that I suffer high wear on the outer edge of both rear tyres, but not on the front tyres. I've had the 4-wheel alignment checked by different places four times over the years (I've owned the car since new and it hasn't been in a shunt) and I was told on each occasion that the toe, camber and thrust angles for the rear axle are all within the specifications. I still get excessive wear on the outer edge of both rear tyres.

They have either gone up or that price was for a smaller tyre.

Current price on Tyreshopper (fully fitted) for standard sport wheels with the size 225/45/17 91Y is £101.50 each. That was the size, speed rating and load factor for the original factory-fitted Contisports on mine. The price apparently goes up if you need a) a lower profile on larger rims or b) a higher load factor and I believe that Goodyear also discounts the tyre price for a short while on introducing a new range.

The Assy1 are a much much better tyre than the old GSD3 (especially dry handling and life) so it should follow Assy2 is another improvement.

I'm on 225/45/17 91Y hence the price. Back in may as well.

I had 4 x Asymmetric V1s on my car until recently. They're a bit noisier than I had hoped, but are otherwise excellent.

I got a nasty puncture on my front left the other day and had to buy a replacement. My tyres had done about 15,000kms so I bought two new tyres to keep the tread depth the same. I asked for the Asymmetric V1s but got the V2s, which is mildly annoying, but not to worry.

I've only done a couple of hundred kms on the V2s (fitted the the front) and they've been great so far.

Like the OP I've had lots of good experiences with Goodyear tyres.

Just got these fitted,

TL (OFFER) Fuel Eff.: C Wet Grip: A NoiseClass: 2
Noise: 70dB

Rim protection is good and the ride seems fine but I didn't get that amazing new feeling of new tyres that I got on last set of Falken 452(superb tyre imho)


Has anyone any advice on pressures?

they're on a 2007 A3 SB 2.0tdi 170 S line DSG
