AVS Servicing - Post your quotes and dealers here.

Got a quote from an independent Audi specialist Pioneer Automotive (based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire):

Longlife service: £186.75 (normally £249 but they've got 25% off servicing until the end of the year)
Cambelt: £299
Waterpump: £35

All genuine Audi parts. Also getting a courtesy car whilst the work is being done.

Just had my car done today and very happy with everything and would definitely recommend them. Paid £530 in total for the service, cambelt, waterpump and a courtesy car.

Full AVS service including oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, cabin filter.

£227 inc VAT at Sportstech in Ilkeston.

Even picked me up and dropped me off. Will be doing my cambelt and waterpump for me next month :)

My first service is due soon.. what kind of price will I be looking at?

Its on its long life plan, (has done almost 16,000 miles, and is 2 years old in March).

Just had my a3 2.0 tdi Black Ed done at 18K miles.
I was quoted £269, £255, £241 and £175 at different Audi garages.
So shop around !!!

For a full 40k service on my S3 I was quoted £542.44 by Amersham Audi.

This did include a Haldex service but did not include Brake Fluid or air con regas. I was quoted a further £99 for air con service.

I struggle to understand the previous service set up of my car with regards to AVS long life etc etc and all I can establish is that it has had a dealer stamp every 10 k !! Quite what has been done I dont know. For peace of mind I did an oil change on it as soon as I took delivery even though it was apparently serviced 2k previous to this (according to dealer stamp)!!

I am passing the Haldex service job to Audi for £75 but going forwards I am now going to complete the annual fixed service with a specialist using genuine Audi parts for a fraction of the cost (approx half) and this will include brake fluid change and air con service. I plan to change the oil every 4-5 k anyway and I only do 8k a year in the S3 anyhow. Another good reason for not paying dealer oil prices.

Fair enough I wont have a log book full of main dealer stamps but I will have peace of mind and in the long run the performance of the car will 'speak for itself'.

£200 approx for Cam belt service on my A3 2.0 ltr TDI 05 plate
Not sure of standard service costs yet but this price is a massive reduction on any quote from other dealers.

Yup, All genuine.
He's a VW spec so won't use non gen parts as he said.
Labour £49 ph makes the difference.

Not sure if he gave me a discount as i turned up in a big red truck with a big ladder on it, this sometimes makes a difference.

After much searching around, found a recommended garage, Star Performance in Kirkcaldy, Fife, 40k service, oil + filter, pollen filter, brake fluid, spark plugs & haldex oil + filter all in £320 inc vat, not bad i thought, better than Audi's £500 !

I haven't read every comment on here so, sorry if I'm repeating someone else.
I have had an absolutely horrendous experience with my local, franchised Audi dealer. You know the type - lots of glass, lots of 'suits', free coffee and scones and not a mechanic in sight (they might be dirty(!?).
I acquired my Audi A3 3.2 (46k) two years ago (just 7k added since) and have dealt with this dealer three times.
First time they claimed to have fixed a simple fault. It was a blown bulb on the rear number plate (an MOT failure) and I had told them about it when I left the car with them for a service. Before collecting my car I was told twice, by two different 'suits' that the bulb problem had been sorted. On collecting the car I found that the bulb had not been 'sorted' and, rather than admit their mistake, I was told that I had "not asked for an MOT service"(!?). The car had to be taken back to the service dept. On checking my service record I found that it had not been updated. A while later I left my car in for a 'Haldex' service and they promised that the service record would be updated regarding the previous service and the 'Haldex'.
When I went to collect the car the 'Haldex' service had been filled in with the appropriate mileage but the previous service hadn't been recorded. When this was pointed out they filled in the original service on the next page so that, as far as the sequence of records went, the mileage actually reduced.
Recently I had my car serviced again with the same company and, after asking them to be careful with the service record, I collected my car and found that the mileage had been written in, scribbled out and written in again.
Can you imagine trying to explain these anomalies to a potential purchaser.
When I complained about this last experience I was politely told to try some smaller, non- Audi approved, business. In other words "Go away - we only want satisfied customers!"
I would like to thank anyone who has borne with me so far and I would like to ask a couple of questions:

Am I being unreasonable in the level of care I should expect from a main Audi dealer?

Have Audi main dealers some secret magic that should put me off smaller businesses?

Thanks to anyone who has read this far!

No - you are NOT being unreasonable in expecting a high level of care !

But - you ARE being unrealistic in thinking that you might get it ! I would only use a main dealer that has been recommended by word of mouth, and then only if an expert independent wasn't within a reasonable distance.

Most 'indies' don't have suits, glass or fancy lighting (you may be offered a coffee) but generally they will have an experienced guy at the top who actually owns the company and has an interest in doing a good job. In addition they probably charge less than half the price of main dealers hourly rates.

There are many that 'knock' main dealers for their inability to do things that you ask for mechanical-wise, but they have strict procedures to go by and sometimes are not allowed to do what you think might be obvious and simple. This may be fair enough for whatever reason.

However, there should be no excuse for 'suits' telling untruths and not efficiently making sure that, where possible, customer requests are attended to.

Finally a question for you :- why, after the first experience, did you even consider going back to the same place ?

Hi Mike.
Thanks for taking the time to read my longish post and for your reply.
Why I went back(?):
I live in N. Ireland and this company seems to have the only Audi approved service centres (2) here. I used to service my cars myself but I as I had paid so much for my Audi I thought that a service record by Audi themselves would have a positive effect on it's depreciation value. I assumed, wrongly, that my first experience was a 'one off' and such a 'professional' company would usually get it right. What a stupid assumption!
My first complaints were met with apologies and promises. Now I get a completely different attitude. It seems that I am expecting a smooth and professional customer service which is unreasonable. After all my negative experience with this company I suggested that I might be better going to an 'indie' company. Rather than trying to keep my custom they agreed with me (!?). In other words 'we don't like people who complain! - go away!'. Such a great business philosophy.
I have emailed the MD of this company and am waiting for a reply. I will let you all know his reply and if it is not satisfactory I will give you more info about this company.

You are very unlikely to get a reply(I didn't), imo the company you are talking about are totally incompetent and arrogant and my only experience so far is buying a new A3 off them, they made a total hash of that from start to finish. I haven't ever heard of good service from them.
If it's any help I was told Portadown are slightly better and worth the extra drive, if you can find a good independant that would be better though.

Well Eddy,
I did get a reply (in letter form!) from the MD, Richard Eakin, and I felt it was as condescending and patronising as the replies I had received from his subordinate (Richard Armstrong). Their answer to my problems re: my service record anomalies was to provide letters explaining these anomalies to any potential purchasers should I decide to pass the car on.
I would ask anyone on here, if they were considering a private purchase of a second hand Audi, would they accept such letters without concern, and if not, would they be willing to go to the bother of confirming that these letters were genuine before agreeing to buy(?!). I believe that the resale value of my car has been seriously reduced due to these incompetent mistakes.
Eddy, I am not afraid to name the company as I have not said anything about them that is untrue.

BELFAST AUDI (ISAAC AGNEW) !!!! I think this company's literature should carry a health warning such as 'Using our services can be damaging to your mental and financial health!'.

Here is a couple of examples of things that I was told were a problem at my last service carried out by this company:

1. "Clip for parcelshelf string broken on bootlid." (this is the tiny plastic hook that plugs into the hatch door) - cost to fix £23.41
2. "Rear washer defective, investigation required." (All it needed was a pin inserted in the nozzle to clear it) - cost to investigate £61.99

Of course I rejected both.

Here is a quote from Richard Eakin's letter to me:

"I can assure you that we take all genuine customer issues extremely seriously, and they are subsequently dealt with in the most fair, equitable and reasonable manner. Furthermore, we are proud to represent the Audi brand and value our hard won reputation for providing an outstanding level of Customer service."

Anyone spot the irony?

Belfast Audi (Isaac Agnew) - The Grand National - Both are good if you like a gamble.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

If you live in Northern or Southern Ireland and you own a Seat, Skoda, VW or an Audi I would recommend that you keep well away from any Isaac Agnew VAG service companies.
I have had sh*t service from them and I thought that I had just been unlucky. After many communications with said company and having read (on various Audi forums) other VAG owner's experiences with this company, I now realise that the only thing you are paying 'big bucks' for is their stamp in your service record and even then they can get it wrong - they've made a mess of my service record (mileage reducing between jobs done and mileage, written in pen, scribbled out and written again with a different hand. Really professional (!?).
Spread the word - don't expect that big prices and fantastic showrooms mean superior service - you might be very disappointed.
Belfast Audi (Isaac Agnew) - I will not be going back there - it has cost me more than money!!
Audi are great cars and I hope yours stays great. Just get an honest company to maintain it and you won't be sorry.
I have reported Belfast Audi to Audi UK but they have not replied.

I've noticed a few Audi owners on here having to get their water pumps replaced.
Is there a problem with Audi water pumps?

The water pump should be replaced as a matter of course when the cambelt is changed. This is because it is driven by the cambelt and if it were to go faulty the whole cambelt would have to be taken off again. It is purely a precautionary exercise.

There is no inherent problem as far as I'm aware.

Thx for the info Mike. Mine is chain drive so I shouldn't worry about it.
I've had quite a few motors in my time (belt and chain) and have never had to replace the water pump in any of them.
Is this just another scaremonger tactic by Audi dealers to get more out of our wallets?

It's only around £25 on an exchange basis for the pump, just makes sense to replace. The bearings in it go eventually I think.

My car is 2008 (08) on 40k now, having a major service, i.e. fuel/air/oil filter etc & DSG oil at Manchester Audi this week, charging me £463 inclusive.

Just been quoted £530 for cambelt+waterpump at Derby Audi, jog on......

Can't seem to edit, anyway, got Cambelt + Pump for £400 all in at Sportstech in Ilkeston, much better!

Hi all, first post

Was very dissappointed with the customer service i received @ Stockport Audi, ignored for 45 minutes only to be told that oil change and pollen filter will set me back £275 incl vat :w00t: Next tried Macclesfield Audi, better service, seen within 15 minutes, offered complimentary drink which i declined and was quoted £280 incl vat

Explained situation with Stockport, Macc dropped price to £270 incl vat :bye:

Looked up to find any VAG Specialists in Cheshire, opted for German Specialists.

Top service, quoted £168.00 incl vat.

Dealt with Danny ex AUDI chap! Top man, top service, will use again.

After much searching around, found a recommended garage, Star Performance in Kirkcaldy, Fife, 40k service, oil + filter, pollen filter, brake fluid, spark plugs & haldex oil + filter all in 320 inc vat, not bad i thought, better than Audi's 500 !

Went to Star Performance for the first service (18500) on our A3 1.9 TDIe

£139 inc VAT and done in an hour.

First Class service :)

Stoke Audi - highly recommended, very friendly and no dearer than my local VAG Specialist.
Just has my Cambelt, pulleys and waterpump done for £370 inc-vat on my 2005 2.0 T FSi.
I have also taken out a 2 year service contract for £475, this gives me two anual services, two MOT's and my Spark plug change @ 60K.

Chingford Audi, had an interim service done for £145 (oil, oil filter, sump plug) + free MOT.

MOT failed on a split cv boot gaiter and audi wanted just over £265 to replace it, took it to a local German car specialist and had it done for £75 all included.

Retest and MOT pass back in Chingford Audi, did not have to pay for the retest.

Which local german specialist is this mate??
I tend to use either Audi Chingford or RAC London over in NW London, just off the north circ at Brent Cross.

I know that place. I used to go there all the time for tyres but find they've got a bit pricy nowdays.
In fact I was the there a couple of weeks ago for fitting of two tyres and he wanted £40 to fit both. Told him that Scotty's tyres up the road only charge a tenner each and he basically told me to go to them then!

£40 for two tyres is a bit pricey. But nothing beats audi and their price for replacing the cv gaiter.

Had first service done today on my S3 @ docklands Audi. All the car required was a Lubrication \ Oil Change Service - nothing else. This was as per information supplied on Dashboard computer. INITIALLY the price they quoted by Docklands Audi was £165 AFTER which I mentioned I would bring along my own oil.

Collected the car this evening and they still charged me £165!!!! They said they had already taken account of the oil I supplied into the price.

Sounds like I've been fleeced! Any thoughts considering the fact that I have since called a number of other dealerships in the area and they have quoted similar prices (between 165 and 180 INCLUDING cost of Oil!)

Any thoughts? Cost breakdown on invoice states 'AVS' which is not what was required and only an Oil Change Service.

When booking your car in for a first service make sure you state was is required - 'Oil \ Lubrication Service' or 'Inspection Service' which are different and have different costs as I understand - still puzzled why my invoice breakdown states 'AVS'.

Going to quiz them tomorrow to establish what's going on with their prices.

I think AVS would just indicate that they used long life oil.

Also had my first service on my S3 today - £140 for a long life oil change from Crewe. They quoted me £165ish to start with but were willing to negotiate.

I also rang Cheshire Oaks Audi who didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. Four phone calls and four totally different prices and conflicting pieces of information. When I said I wanted my car putting onto fixed interval servicing I was told this wasn't technically possible until the car was over 3 years old. Ended up having to call Audi UK customer services who rang the dealership on my behalf and managed to convince them it was in fact possible before getting yet another different price from them. Their final quote for a fixed interval oil change was £188, the other prices they gave me and Audi CS were £149, £166 and £175.

Edinburgh Audi - £270 for 18,000 first longlife service. Two local indies - £130 and £110 !!!!

My S3 used to be on a long life service too which really isnt that great for them as they benefit from more regular oil changes. I got mine serviced from an independant and changed the servicing from long life to fixed. When you reset the service light yourself it automatically changes it to a fixed service 1yr/10k.

During my call to Audi Slough I enquired for service price.

FULL service (major one) with dsg oil, quattro, engine oil etc + spark plugs, they quoted me 779

Shall I or Shall I not ? :ninja:

Hope the OP will allow this one:thumbsup:Decided to take andvantage of the Audi offer and had an interim service done at Newcastle Audi. £147 + free MOT.Bargain!!

However, I didn't realize they were employing spanner weilding monkeys as techs. During the service they managed to blahblah the blahblah and the blahblah, and just for fun they left it for me to discover later! A quick phonecall and some pics sent via email and the new blahblah and blahblah were ordered without any quibble. All good. However when I got the car back after fitting I thought I'd better check on the work. To my disbelief the monkeys had blah the blahblah whilst fitting the new blahblah:wtf:I managed to sort this myself but now the other newly fitted blahblah keeps falling off and the car thinks the bonnet is open! If anyone wants details and pics on why they should avoid Newcastle Audi(or Monkey World as it's now known)then Pm me. Infact I'm that annoyed they can shove the MOT up their big fat monkey like *** and I'll take it back to Volksparts in Durham(£136 for an interim) next time.

Please note that no actual monkey was harmed or even used during the service. But If one had been used I'm sure it would have done a better job.

All in Leeds for a longlife diesel service;-
Volksworks £150 +vat
IVC £180 + vat

Still going to give audi a quick ring and see what they can offer. Also there is an independent garage back home offering it for £145, had a bit of work done with them in the past and theyve always been good.

I am considering just buying the parts and doing it myself as i would save £100 but Is it better to use a specialist and pay a bit extra for the service stamp?
