After buying my 06 plate (non dpf) 2.0 tdi 140 which had been serviced by audi using the longlife plan that i am going to service the car every 10k instead as i dont like the idea of the oil/filter not being changed on a car for such long periods and it can only be a good thing for the engine/turbo

I was looking to use Mobil 1 oil but wondered what others use or would recommend?

5w-30 Pd oil only! vw507.00 or 506.01 shell helix or similar

go to the main dealer and get yourself some quantum longlife111 its a fully synthetic 5w-30 meant for longlife servicing ie 19000 miles . i paid £32.00 for 5 litres its what audi use when servicing just change it at 10000 miles and you wont go wrong

Thats a good price tbh especially from the stealers

Castrol Edge 5w 30. On offer at Asda for £35.00 or £37.59 at Halfords. Recomended for VW VAG engines.

I don't mean to be rude, but Audi do not spend all that time and money on development for no reason. If they offer long life servicing, then it is obviously not going to be an issue, they would not put there reputation at risk over something like this. Let's face it, it's not a high performance engine by any stretch of the imagination.

How ever they are your wheels, so do what you see fit, just my opinion :)

I did actually start another thread about people opions on longlife servicing and some people would agree with what your saying (everyone has there own views on the matter)

My view is,for the sake of around fifty quid performance car or not i dont like the idea of not changing the oil or filter on any car for 18-20k

Have you seen what oil looks like after 10k.The oil may be made not to thin out for 18-20k but the oil and filter aint going to clean itself hence the reason im going to change the oil and filter every 10k.

If anything was to break up internally id rather have it out after 10k than leave it for nearly twice as long to keep going round my engine/turbo as a replacement engine or rebuild is going to cost a arm and a leg for sure

Clean fresh oil every 10k will not damage my engine or turbo and can only be good and for the sake of 50 quid, its also peace of mind but others will think differently and as you say at the end of the day the choice is yours. This is just my opion

I also would never keep oil in longer than 10k, every 5k for me, ll3 quantum oil from tps. For the sake of £35 or so every 5k can do no harm. My last vw was on 225k, orginal turbo cams etc and it was a pd, would still have it now if some one neva wrote it off. Current a3 sline SB 57 plate. If kept on Long life servicing for most people thats an oil change every 2yrs (well nearly), dont care how good the oil is, i'm old school and and oil change every 5k is preventative maintence can only be gud.

Castrol Edge 05w-30 for me, usually get it done at the dealers.

National tyres use the correct spec of oil and will do an oil / filter change for around the £35 mark there or thereabouts.......you'll struggle to buy the oil / filter for that price then add on a few hours to do the job too......I know what I'd rather do.....lol

As for oil frequencies?
I've driven around a million miles + in the last 2o years averaging around 50k per year, sometimes more, mostly with company cars. I kept these ultra clean, but, tended to drive them like I stole them. going everywhere at least a 100mph and hard. The cars were serviced regularly and I've had many years of Ford Mondeos, Vauxhall Vectras, Saab 93 ALL on longlife servicing at some point, some for their entire lifespan, and having completed 160k miles in 3 years never missed a beat. The Mondeos didn't even need topped up in between!!!
My current A6 has done 85k miles in 4 years as circumstances have changed slightly. The first 2-3 years she was on longlife and changed around every 20k miles and have never had an issue >>Please note - during this time nearly all my driving was long motorway trips and realy easy going in that sense <<
Now I tootle around town stop / start all the while I've changed to fixed interval servicing at around 10k miles.....

Just thought I'd share......
