Dane's Hybrid Conversion Thread

Last September?! How many miles have you covered since then Dane? :racer:

I even remember you turning up at my house in a rather standard S3 less than 12 months ago! lol

Yep last September... Lol... The clutch has probably seen 6k 7k since then...

Yep I've had the s3 just over a year now, :)

Lucky git, my last clutch did less than 2k before the gearbox spat out it's innards and coated the clutch in fluid :(

Dont think its behind, Tuffty modified the panel so you can still access the cd changer, the bottle is fixed to the panel that is still in place in the photo. See page 8 I think

you sure can dude, I thought I already posted some

But heres the final outcome

The feed for the water meth to the FMIC here:

The piping runs down the passenger side of the car underneath all the trim and behind seats like this

This involves removing the glove box, kick panel on the passenger side, the rear seats and the rear passenger side trim so you can run the feed.

The controller that comes with the kit takes a pressure feed from the engine so as it can determine when to start pumping and the controller is then wired in at the front

and the necessary wires run to the pump in the boot. This wiring runs underneath the drivers side kick panel and across the rear bench underneath the carpet.

Theres a small LED between the a Pillar and the dash that glows when your using WMI and it gets brighter as the pump flows more with increased boost. I also has other flash sequences that tell you different things like you've run out or theres a problem.

Ah right. I thought you'd managed to mount the bottle the other side of the access panel out of sight. That would have been impressive :)

Thanks for the extra info though Dane. I'm looking at places to mount a bottle for an intercooler spray.

No worries dudeson

If you're happy to loose the sub etc. It'll go in I reckon. But it would be trickier to fill.

Or if you don't mind loosing your spare wheel I think tufftys thinking about getting an ally tank put in place of his.

Are you just planning on using water??? Won't that freeze in the winter?

Fecking yes mate! I love it when people deliver on time!

Drag racing is addictive, you need to do at least 2 to get over the nerves! :)

Indeed. New Sachs paddle, LUK pressure plate and flywheel going back in.

There will be a brand new LUK friction plate if anyone wants to buy it off Dane when this is done.

Bill, how do you find the wear with the Sachs paddle?

I was a bit put off of paddle clutches after i baught a AEB motor last year which had a 15k old single mass flywheel and paddle clutch fitted, and found both the flywheel and pressure plate had pretty serious lips on them, somewhere in the region of 0.5mm on both.

I think Mark ran the same clutch for a short while, and his showed similar wear when he removed it.

I dont think kit i ended up with was a sachs paddle though, it had a sachs cover plate, but the paddle itself was unbranded.

Expensive Inters trip Dane.....

Better than getting arrested, fined and getting points on my license lol

but yes VERY expensive and a pain in the ***.

Nice of the people who fitted the box to have noticed when we could of done something about it.

Tufftys running this set up aragorn and he seems happy thus far and I'm happy to follow suit :)

Thanks for the pics Bill

Looking good Dane, not far now... Hopefully no more set backs so i can get my car in to Bills at some point this century :sob:
