My windscreen gets on my t*ts, its covered in little marks and scratches, it looks like its just mucky when the sun shines on it but i have polished it inside and out and it always looks the same, in the sun and rain its dangerous esp in the rain as the wipers wont clear it properly despite being new.

My question is if i ask my insurance company to replace it will they do it seen as its a danger or does it have to be cracked / smashed for them to okay a claim?

Thanks dudes!

Or does anyone know of a resin / silicone based product that i polish the screen with to fill any tiny gaps and reduce the blur?

Just crack it yourself lol

Audi tried to polish mine with a machine and to be fair it made an improvement but I suffer the same mate

Will change it eventually but I figure if I change it now and pay the excess , knowing my luck it will get broken again the day after costing me again lol

I thought about that but knowing my luck the hammer will bounce off smash me square in the face then jump all over my bonnet!

I might give Audi a call about polishing it, my warrenty ran out about 3 weeks ago so i really wish id known about that sooner!

:motz:

Metal ice cream scoop, pair of heavy duty gloves, a location which gives you complete privacy, and a very heavy arm.

If all else fails, some big stones and a pitchers throw should do the trick.

Excess is generally £75.

Yeah i thought excess might be about that. I think the ice cream scoop might be the way forward, its gonna feel so un natural. im normally doing everything i can to make my car look better not smash it in its face ha ha!

Lol that would be my luck too

As for the polishing I don't know what stuff they used but it did help a bit but maybe some of the experts in here will know

Polishing won't get scratches or stone chips out, not even jewellers rouge does it, I've tried. Polishing it will get rid of the ground in dirt, so water will just stream off the windscreen going 60+.

I need a new windscreen too, its clean, but is very scratched up and driving into sun is just dangerous! Post up if you do this. But FYI, make sure you request a genuine OEM audi screen, as I was speaking to a guy at Autoglass and he said you need to make sure they use the genuine ones and not another manufacturer.

Good info there Chris,

I will be sure to check on that if I get a new screen

One call to Autoglass sorts it out very easily, just make sure your insurance company uses them, call and check first. Once you call autoglass you give them your insurance details and pay them the excess, then they arrange when and where you want it done.

Never asked too much about the damage.......:whistle2:

Interesting point, but how are you supposed to know?

I have checked with my insurer and they use auto windscreens, so i have given auto windscreen a bell to see if they are able to provide OEM Audi screens before contacting my insurer.

Well its very easy to tell if its OEM, it'll have the four rings in the lower right hand corner.

I'm lucky in the fact I deliver the OEM parts to Autoglass here, so just chatted to them about it.

So the only difference is the 4 audi rings (logo) on the glass?

So really what does it actually matter, im sure the quality from others will be the same/equal?

If autoglass are telling you to go OEM its for a good reason. i reckon the other manufacturer screens are not as good quality or maybe its something as simple as them not clearing easily from condensation????

if they say go OEM I will be doing.

well good news for me ive have just found this:-

Insurers switch windscreen suppliers

My insurer (AVIVA) are now using Autoglass according to this article so i shall give them a ring instead!

Although this is dated Feb so perhaps auto windscreens survived?

Crap, im with Admiral, will have to see if National windscreens are supplying OEM without checking for a major crack.

Right, i have got through to Autoglass by going through aviva.

I have spoken to a lady at Autoglass and i have asked for a genuine OEM Audi glass/Windscreen

I now need to wait for Autoglass to get this confirmed with Aviva, as OE manufacturer glass may incur extra charges or may not be fully covered by the £75 excess.

She told me the only difference between the Audi Glass and there OEM glass is the 4 rings/logo on the glass.

So my question is what is the big deal with having the genuine Audi OEM glass, if its only the logo in the corner who cares?

If it turns out to be double the excess just for 4 audi rings then i may just not bother, at the end of the day the glass is covered under there guarantee so surely if something does go wrong it will be covered.

I mean does anyone have any evidence of this other glass being inferior, does it crack easier or perhaps auto wipers don't work as well as they should or something?

Update:-

Found this interesting post-

Windscreen changed

So it would seem OEM is the way to go as apparently the cheap ones are like looking through fish bowls

I was going to say the same thing. OEM is going to be perfect. Other manufacturers aren't always flat. You can always tell when you see a windscreen that isn't OEM. For another £75, I'd go for it.

Can you get Replacement OEM with top tint? Thats the only thing stoping me replacing my screen.

Automatic centre punch Leaves a nice frosted look seemingly.

Oh yes. My original was just plain but when the guy turned up to do it he said they had sent the wrong one, and it has a top tint.
Bonus.

I had my windscreen replaced by Autoglass last month. I had it replaced for the autodimming mirror version with top tint. I believe its made by Guardian so not OEM but its not bad. I have however noticed that between the glass and the plastic inner section there is a mark of what looks like condensation so I'll be giving Autoglass a call to get it sorted cos it really bugs me... See if they will replace it for OEM with this one being faulty.

Did you pay for it or was your old one cracked / smashed?

The old one got smashed completely accidentally!

Just paid the excess and job was done.

Lucky get. or not, depends how fun it is facing the wrong way on A1?

I should hear from auto glass tomorrow on whether Aviva will approve my OEM Audi screen on my insurance.

Well aviva approved my Audi windscreen and autoglass are coming thursday to replace it, never been asked once about the damage.

How did you get on dude? did you manage to get a replacement Audi screen without it being smashed / cracked?

Just to add that I am with Aviva too. Got a windscreen replaced a few weeks ago with OEM Audi glass. Took a bit of haggling but all done now and for the standard £75 excess.
The small crack was somehow much larger just before they turned up....

Yeah all sorted now mate, at no point was i asked about the damage.

I did however put a crack in the windscreen anyway just to be on the safe side!

Autoglass came and tried to fob me off with a non audi screen, i was like hold on a minute, i asked for an Audi windscreen, and the guy was like, oh ok, well do you want me to fit this one instead while i'm here as its the same as an audi screen anyway.

He rang his head office and said the Audi glass had been smashed in transit, so why did not one tell me? why did they just turn up with another windscreen.

I dont think so, dickhead!

Anyway cut a long story short, autoglass rang me back and said they have now managed to get replacement audi glass (hmm...you mean you already had it) and they came back round in the afternoon and fitted it.

Cheeky ******** would have billed my insurance for an Audi panel and slipped in a OEM one if i didnt say something.
