Hi guys and girls, I picked my car up today after getting a few mods fitted, including a Forge CAI and full Blueflame TBE. It already has a Stage 1 remap on it at the moment, which I will be upgrading to Stage 2 in the next few days. The guy at the garage, where in fairness they are more used to working on MK1 and MK2 Golfs as well as others told me that I would need to upgrade my diverter valve as it 'would soon be going' because the car's mapped. I told him that because my car's a newer S3 it has the Revised Diverter valve fitted, but he said it wouldn't matter and that I should change it for a Forge one instead. I'm a bit puzzled, ..should I take his advice or should I just leave my diverter valve as it is? I've heard of guys on here swapping out their Forge items in favour of the OEM Revision D. Help me, please, lol! :)

leave the rev D one in, its just as good as the forge one and £150 cheaper!
ive got the forge one in mine and although it sounds great i wouldnt pay £190 for it (got an epic deal on mine) and the car isnt running quite right, so need to call forge and discuss what spring i need to put in it to best suite my mapping (mission!!!)

Rev D is fine with me and makes a nice noise

Gonna embarrass myself now and ask, what is a diverter valve and what sound does it make?

It's basically a dump valve except where a traditional dump valve vents boost to the atmosphere, a diverter valve re-directs the excess boost back to the intake of the turbo.

At least that's my understanding anyway.

Ah right, just read a few posts on them and seems there is some question as to which is best OEM or aftermarket.

Does the sound mentioned above only become obvious with mods like CAI etc? Cant say I have noticed anything on mine.

I can hear the dump sound on my A3 but it is very quiet and i have to have my window open with radio off

Thanks Paolo, that's more than good enough for me. I knew you'd keep me right:icon_thumright:

Thought so, dude, thank for your reply. :)

Mine had revised D and it's been fine with 17,000 of Revo.

It will prob blow tomoz now I said that :scared2::scared2:

Lol, don't go saying things like that, Ryan! Go and touch wood that yours is all good and say no more. :)

If it's a manual your clutch will die well before the DV :D

Mine's an S-Tronic and I don't push it hard TBH, so fingers crossed it will be okay. :)

no worries, much better things to be putting that sort of money towards!

if i can tomorrow ill try and grab a video of what it sounds like as taking it for a blast haha

This is exactly like mine. I changed mine to the revision D in March and i've had no problems. Also it works out cheaper to replace a revision D valve three times over than to buy a single forge, which will last you probably the life of the car and give you same performance without the loud sound.

Is the revision D valve only in the S3, or will my 2011 2.0tfsi have one? If not, can I it one to it when I revo stage 1, or does it only fit the S3??:scared2:

Still cant hear anything on mine? All I hear is the turbo spool up when you boot it and then the engine just acts like any other the rest of the time?

you need the car mapped to hear anything, on the stock map the turbo isnt producing enough boost pressure to really make any noise

I got blufin on it, does that count?

ah... i assumed form your sig it wasnt mapped... bluefin are known for being very conservative with their mapping so they may not be requesting as much boost as others like evolve or revo. but when i had my stage 1 it was one of the first things i noticed (although i had the older version) but still you really should be hearing some dv chatter on lift off when the turbo is on boost

does your car feel sluggish at all or do you not seem to get a kick when the turbo kicks in?

Certainly get a kick and wouldnt say its sluggish but then it is the fastest car I have owned so not much for comparison lol

haha if your still getting a kick then doubt youve got a boost leak, prob just down to the mapping
have you got a CAI fitted?

No mate not yet, still got warranty so being careful what I do hence the bluefin ( and I had it from my A3 and they reset it for free lol )

Is the diverter valve something that requires any sort of occasional clean up like the maf etc or is it a case of it either works or it doesnt?

that could be why, the stock air intake will restrict air flow and keep it a lot more subtle, think when u change to a proper cai you will hear it, so i wouldnt worry, even with warranty you can still fit one, just if you have an engine issue youll have to swap it out like i did

the dv doesnt need any looking after, its either good or broken but as yours is a rev d it shouldnt fail

cheers buddy,

will look into a CAI , any recomendations?

no worries
the 3 main ones are the evoms (what im using), ITG Max, or the forge twintake, all of these are good to stage 2+ so its down to preference really, the reason i chose the evoms is purely down to the noise, its loud! on full throttle you can really hear it sucking in air which i love, if your wanting something more subtle then the ITG would be the way to go

Neh loud is good with me lol

Can you PM me a link? ( my appologies to the OP I have taken over his thread )

LOL awsome I need it

I dont get any sort of dump valve sound like that on my motor what so ever!

Cheers for your help and sorry to OP again :)

yea must just be the oem airbox restricting the airflow
no worries, always happy to help spend other people money haha!

I done 83 hours O/T in 3 weeks, I deserve a treat lol

The chirping sound some people are describing isn't the diverter valve,it's the sound of the compressor stalling as you lift the throttle.

The diverter may make a bit of a hissing sound but I'll be honest and say that on mine, which has a GT3071 instead of the K04,there is virutally no noise from either aside from a bit of a snort if you lift off suddenly.

Hi!
Where can i buy Rev D for my S3 if someone can tell me please?
I called three different Audi services and they will have to ordere it (2-3 weeks :O)
and i need it as soon as possible!
Thanks!
