Best Wax?

depends on what you call pricey mate. certainly £32.50 aint pricey for what it is. yes supernatural is £95 but thats good considering swissvax are well over that.

get yourself some dodo blue velvet(hard wax) mate or purple haze(soft wax). dodo can be used on any colour car so doesnt have to be the ones i said but get yourself a pot of dodo and get to work lol

certainly there are waxes out there that will set you back well over a couple hundred quid but why would you want to.

I bought a Dodo Juice purple haze extreme tester pot for about £12, enough in there to do my car at least 4 times I reackon which is about 2 or 3 years in my book :) Smell nice to :) My Audi Cab is black btw

Good man! :)

Depends on what your looking to get from a wax and how often you want to be applying it.

Dodo juice have launched a new product called supernatural hybrid which is half wax and half sealant offering extended durability over their standard range, but still with the bling you want. Ask moosh he knows :p

Hi Gordy!

Hi Gordy!

Hey Jen!

Yip Super Natural Hybrid is a fantastic wax/sealant and my weapon of choice, gives a better than factory finish but the prep work is key to that

Assuming your car is Sprint Blue as in your avatar pic, I'd go with a sealant rather than a wax. Werkstat Acrylic will be awesome - the kit has enough for at least 25 applications, and one application is good for upto 4 months. Werkstat Acrylic Kit | Best Selling Synthetic Car Paint Protection Kit

You could, if you have an indoor work space to allow it to cure properly, used Body Wrap or one of the other nano-sealants.

Just bought Dodo Juice purple haze... gonna see how it looks when detailed. will let you know. The blue on the s3 is a bit light for it though i think. Had it recommended to me by near enough everyone. Not too expensive either really.

Ferecla WAX TOP............1 word........AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Used it for years and nothing comes close

Fifth Gear did a wax review few years back and this came out top marks!!!

They applied all different waxes and had proffesionals detailers finish panels on a car, then they parked a gritter next to it and turned it on, flame thrower at it, fire hose etc etc and it still had a mega shine reading!!!

And for around £22 a litre it last for aaaaggggeeeeeeesssssssss!!!!!

my choice would be dodo juice everyday i swear by the stuff now thanks to grant  i now use dodo juice supernatural and it blew my mind with the shine on my car (oh and i hand waxed it too) was a bit of a so and so to come off after hand waxing but the shine was amazing well worth the £16 i payed for a panel pot , my orange crush lasted my for ages too (panel pot also) did my car about 6 times with it

If you don't want to fork out for Supernatural then get yourself Supernatural Hybrid, its a wax/sealent, £30 a pot and is great stuff, its become my regular wax now.

So is wax better then polish? I polish my car every 2-3 months and its looks lush but never as nice as when i first brought it.

Cant believe Collinite 476 hasn't had a shout in here, I love the stuff :)

Its not really a case of “whats better” between them as they do different jobs.

Polish has a bit of cut to it so as in the name it polishes....lol

Where as wax is more of a protector, if that make sense .......

If you polish the car then you really should was it after (but then that also depends on what your using as a "polish"....lol).

I/We have a large collection of waxes, but for my own car in these summer months i like to apply CG Petes53.

ag SRP for polish then a pre wax cleaner dodo juice lime prime and for a wax poor boys ex-p.

only £12 a bottle and its great stuff canubra wax is no good for pearl or metallic colour cars as it doesnt show the flake or sparkle in the colour as PB has offered the acrylic kit which does show the flake and sparkle.

poor boys is good not highly expensive gear.

werkstat gear is amazing stuff but be prepaired to pay for it

I've always used a carnauba wax :(

Generally speaking, a sealant will enhance the metallic flake more than a wax.

The way a wax bonds and sits on the paint surface (in a slightly haphazard fashion) refracts light differently. You'll still see some metallic flake but it'll tend to be muted to an extent.

A sealant, due to the uniform way in which it sits on the surface, allows light to penetrate the paint surface more easily and the light is then reflected back up more directly; the light tends to bounce off the flake more, highlighting the flake to a much higher extent than with a wax.

It's a little much to say wax is 'no good' on metallics but it will make the finish seem wetter/deeper but with less flake 'pop' and the finish will seem less reflective or 'shiny'.

A key question I ask when a customer comes in is what type of finish they're after: wet and glossy or sharper, shinier and more reflective.

Due to the way the light is reflected and refracted, this is why sealants tend to be superior on light metallics (silver) and whites. Waxes tend to suit darker colours and solid tones better: reds, in my experience, always look best with a wax.

:)

ok so i over indulged in the wax description but as above my answers are correct wax is good for solid cars and sealent is best for metallic and pearl.

tried and tested in my opinion used canubra wax on my audi looked dull yellow used some sealent and started to sparkle more after 6 coats of sealent over 6 months now the flakes and sparkle is great

Thanks John, its not me that needs an education but i agree with what you are saying

but statements like:

'canubra wax is no good for pearl or metallic colour cars as it doesnt show the flake or sparkle in the colour'
are absolute garbage.

Can be so misleading to people new to wax and sealants...

Not really a fan of Collinite, sure it lasts long so good for winter but for the same price you can get Megs #16 which i think it in a different league to Collinite and has just about the same durability.

I agree, there's more too it than 'wax isn't any use for metallics'. Higher quality waxes also offer better optical clarity and show off metallic flake more heavily; Swissvax Crystal Rock, for example, really brings out metallic flake.

This RS6 looked 'ok' with Crystal Rock..... :) http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/detailing/114482-polished-bliss%AE-rs6-mtm.html

Re: Collinite waxes; they have their place, I think 845 is under-rated for example, but in my view, they're more winter waxes or waxes where durability is absolutely paramount.
