Are you feeling poor?

I was just watching a video clip about inflation, and how even the rich people are feeling poor with the prices of your daily needs going up, but our wages/incomes haven't gone up by the same amount to cover the difference, so in general, we 'feel' poorer for it.

So how are you feeling about your financial situation?

I can certainly tell people are a bit more cautious with their monies with the drop in my turnover over the last few months, and despite being comfortable myself financially, I'm considering selling a few of my cars to firstly reduce my carbon footprint, and to save some monies along the way for futures sake.

Our house is feeling it also at the mo tbh. My missus was made redundant at six months pregnant after ten yrs service. With only statuary pay. Although she is now back working her wages fall way short of what we were used to. So that hit us hard. Although I'm on a good package with work it has its peeks and troffs as I am on a basic salary with bonus related earnings. Due to the down turn people have been holding off upgrading their comm's equipment, So my pay drops as I'm not installing. It's very very frustrating as my wages are governed by the sales teams performance and not by my technical ability. That said things seem to be picking back up so it'll come back around and I guess I should be grateful I still have employment.

But the increase in in household bills is the killer. I rent out a few properties and over the last 3 yrs iv seen my anual renewals for building insurance almost double. And for nothing extra. Add this to rising maintenance contracts, landlords insurance then our own rising bills it's a joke. Everyone seems to be putting up their prices to cover their losses and the consumer has no option but to pay the inflation for certain items but earning don't relflect the increase. It's just going to be a circle IMO.
Fuel is the main one as everyone is aware. Why they are aloud to increase price so to maintain their profit is beond me!

me and the misses has not really noticed it.
Every couple of weeks we look at what we spent and where.
We then look at ways to lower our monthly/weekly out going and stop spending on things we no longer need or use.
Take ways has gone, cable tv has gone, gas and electric has dropped down to bear minimum, water usage is down as low as we can do it (if its yellow let it mellow if its brown flush it down), food is mainly bought on line and when buying food we pick stuff thats on offer over normal priced items and then normal price items last.
Car use has dropped down alot, the pug is only driven once to twice a week for work or shopping runs. Unless its to a meeting then the company pays.
The audi is commutiing only unless we go away, which is mainly bristol or we aim out trip to go past bristol where we then fill the tank up with bio fuel for free from my dad.

we've cut our expenses down so much we are able to live off of the misses wage alone. Mine just goes in to savings or cover any extra expence we may incure.
I like it in a way but it can make the months very boring at times. We do aim to go out at least once a week, even if its over mates house for take away or home ****** meal and have one adventure once a month (kayaking, gliding, road trip, that sort of thing).

Just wish the companys we all work for will give us a pay rise inline with living expense.

Yes, we are defo feeling the pinch, with money....

The main bulk of our money currently goes on childcare, which is ridiculous, but defo worth it........as a comparison, our monthly childcare cost is £50 less than our mortgage!!!

We have cut down on loads, takeaways, going out, holidays and lavish b'day pressies have all stopped, these are very difficult times and it looks like there is no help on its way either!!!

Very frustrating, but this is the way it is at the mo and there are many more people in the same boat.

Feeling your pain with the childcare, prices are ridiculous your right. Ours is more than the mortgage and the nursery charges 52 weeks a year which really gets on my tits, but like you say it's money very well spent.

But through rose tint's its an rs3 waiting to happen........ i can but dream

Child care is expensive because they have you by the danglies!!

It's not too bad if you just have 1 kid, but when you get a few it's so expensive. It costs £35 a day for our little girl to go to a Childminder. Nice thing is though that with a Childminder you don't pay when she's on holiday, or bank holidays unlike nurseries.

I'm thinking of changing my name via Deed Poll to El'skintt000 as Money is tight during the summer months due to the drop in LPG users. The winter time should see thing's pick up with loads of overtime (fingers crossed) I just don't like the way GB is run, we have been told to reduce National Debt but yet they send out Millions every day,week,month,year to other countrys for no return.. Thats a dam good idea if she can pull it off. it's a licence to print I think dude. A mate of mine sends his kid to private pre school and it's about £1700 cheaper than I'm paying... He's not planning on sending his kid to the school afterwards but it just shows how they can way over charge. it seems the better the nursery the more they charge. You'd think it would be monitored more so all kids recieve the same standard at the same price, especially for working families. But when we were vetting this clearly ain't the case. Some of the nurserys we visited were right **** holes and still charging a fir wedge.

I think it worked out better for her to quit her job and look after some kids.
Over working a full week and paying someone to look after her kids.

I thought they they was checked like a normal school.
That don't seem to good.

my missus is a childminder so if i any have kids i wont have to pay which is nice. They do charge a small fortune. Nurserys are too expensive in my opinion. At least with a childminder they get closer 1on1 attention in a family environment rather than slung (exaggerating i know) in a hall with 30 other screaming kids.

Agree Dave! We recently changed from a nursery to a childminder and the difference is amazing. She actually gets excited to go there now, and never did for nursery. It was full of 17yr old girls who just didn't really seem to care that much.

To be honest id rather he go to the nursery he attends i think the kids learn to associate more, the one we use in on an old farm and they are top notch when it comes down to the kids, they put the money back in all the time so you can see what your paying for, we couldn't ask for more well apart from a deduction lol. my daughter went to two child minders the second was totally brilliant but the first had a strange view on discipline hence the move...

Yeah, if you get a good nursery they can be good, but ours wasn't the best and I refuse to send my child to a crappy place all day. Our childminder is brilliant, really nice but has good discipline. Layla (our girl) loves the older kids there too, and they all play so well together.

They are definitely 6 of one half a dozen of the other. Both have good bits. We do save a few hundred a year though from the child minder, and it's walking distance which also helps.

In response to the OP im not feeling poor really. Nothings really changed much for me ive carried on as i normally would. It does annoy me spending loads of money on fuel tho. If anything the only thats changed is how i drive. Im a bit easier on the throttle these days

I think if your running a household it's a lot harder now. If you live at home with parents, then the only real thing that would be affecting you fuel.

Life is hard especially for the younger people, trying to set up for the first time mortgage etc, its very restrictive with the high street banks asking for such high % deposits.

ive only recently moved out (end of may) so i only know what it is now and not what it was. That might be the difference. Our gas and electric is only £30 all in. 2bed apartment. Mortgage again is only what it is now for me i pay £750ish
