Get yourself to Midland VW mate, they will be able to get it sorted for you.
Have you explained the issue to him, if not, have a word and see if he knows what it is thats causing the issue.
That fault is 99% related to a duff coolant temp sensor. Buy a genuine green one from Audi/VW/TPS /Seat, & change your self for £34
Hi really, thats put a different view to it, is it that common then for that to fail. How easy is it to change I have minimal to no mechanic knowledge.

just check comparitive temps in vagcom before condemming the thermostat.
in the CTS there are 2 senders, one for instruments one for ecu..
look at both temps (engine + instruments) when its warmed up and confirm they're the same) If they are, its unlikely to be CTS.. If your temp wavers about or does'nt get to 90, or rises and falls from 90, as confirmed by the engine + instruments reading then it is thermostat
CTS is the cheaper of the 2 to swap out.
