Hey guys,

I was having a chat to Sam S3 last night, and he suggested I have a look at these FK AK Coilovers. These seem like very cheap alternative to the Eibach Springs I was going to buy in the near future.

Does anyone actually have these on their car or had any experience with them? Are they any good for just general street use with the occasional "spirited" driving? Including the shipping to Australia, these still end up being cheap as chips! I would also be able to lower it a little more than the 25mm drop the Eibach's supposedly will give me.

I also found these JOM and Hot Tuning Coilovers as well:

Thanks,

EDIT: I also found a set of these APEX springs that would give it a 30mm drop. Is it okay to fit aftermarket springs to the standard shocks?!

They are well good value!!!
I don't own any I have kw V1 's but vinceA3turbo has jus bought some and I haven't driven his car but as a passenger I thought they were ace, very firm but still reasonably comfortable & ****** cheap 2

all cheap ebay coilovers are basically identical. so just get the cheapest. I have raceland and JOM and they are the same, can't fault them. I have never had £1000 coilovers but i imagine they are better! :)

Another thumbs up, I've got JOM jobbies on mine, had them on over a year now and they're spot on for me. Also fitted some FK ones to my mates Mk4 Golf and he's over the moon with them. Yes there's always the "spend another £500 and get some decent ones" comments but that wasn't realistic for me. I wanted coilies over springs and shocks too as I like the fact you can get it spot on, too many kits lie about how much they drop. So yeah, more expensive stuff is going to be better, but for the money you really can't go wrong.

Thanks for the comments guys :)

I've decided to go with the Hot Tuning coilovers as the FK AK seller doesn't ship to Australia :(

Let me know how they turn out. Lucky the roads aren't salted here. I had Bilstein Group A's on my old Peugeot in the UK and the salt killed the outside of them. That would be my only worry with the cheaper coil overs but probably not so much of an issue here.

How are they compared to your Kw's mate? In terms of both performance and quality?

Vince said it made his car 100 % better and as a passenger I couldn't really tell the difference :) it might be a completely different story being the driver but again I can't make a complete judgement on them as I have an s3 with uprated shocks, all bushes & Arb's
But I did totally notice the change in his car ( no more ending up on the drivers knee when he goes round corners )
If it's cheap coilies u want I'd say ya defo can't knock em

Yup. Will do!

I just emailed the seller to find out shipping costs to Sydney, and I'll go from there :)

Can you let me know how much the shipping works out to be as I'd be pretty interested as well in the future!

Cheers for the input mate :) I'll definitely be getting these coilovers as soon as I can :)

No worries mate.

There defoo worth the money mate :) cars feels like it wants to go round bends by it's self :) no more trying to make it haha

Did you end up getting these? Jordan (dainese) on VW Watercooled is selling some H&R springs for the R32 that would fit yours? He wants $200. Also, not after a liquid gauge are you? ;)

I have had these exact coilovers on my A3 TQS for about 8 weeks now. Ride comfort is not too bad however the car is sitting relatively low, handling has been greatly improved and corners pretty flat. Now that it's been about 6/8 weeks the car has been making some nasty squeaking from underneath when cruising at around 20-40mph on town roads. I've been told this is due to the old bushes being laden to a lot of extra stress and now need replacing. Other than that I'd say they're worth the money. They are budget coilovers, this can't be forgotten!

I've got these! I've swapped the rear springs out for apex ones though as the fk ones were fully compressed on the car. I also have a nasty clunking sound from the rear when driving on town roads so will look into getting all rear bushes replaced. Other than that, brilliant bit of kit and well worth the money!

i have the fk ak coilovers, i bought them from one of the sites sponsors, you get a lot for what you pay for, really firm ride, I had my bushes and cv joints changed at the same time, so all was good

they are made in germany too, not china

Are performance bushes worth the extra money or are the standard OEM bushes still ok with coilovers?

Mine needed doing anyway - i paid £80 for the 4 bushes need on the wishbones (powerflex i believe), no idea how much the oem ones are, you might as well do them if they look worn, because you'll have to do them one day if you plan on using your car anyways, you save labour costs this way!

Hey guys, thanks for all the info. I've ordered a Raceland set from Germany and it should be coming next week sometime :) I got a decent price on the kit and shipping to Australia!

Will post up pics once they are installed :D Haha

If anyone needs any prices for coilovers just give me a shout and I'll be happy to help :salute:

will probs be getting some coilovers next couple of weeks will pm ya when need price

Hey guys,

Just joined this forum after purchasing my 2000 S3 8L

I would be interested to upgrade the standard springs & shocks to these FK Coilovers. What would postage cost to send to Australia?

I'm gutted I didn't buy these when I first got my car a couple of months ago... they was £220 then but now they are £275 ***. I think I will eventually buy from Germany as they are a lot cheaper there.

avoid at all costs in my opinion

i had them on my old s3 (you can see from this thread i purchased them) -they knocked, they leaked, they creaked good for the first month, but after that.......

just goggle them, loads of forum members on various sites moaning about them

i have these on my s3 8l at present and are great just only thing that is doing my nut is the front top coilover nut wont move any more and i want it a little lower

not even a hamer slowly tapping away at it makes it move but other than that im happy with them
