I've noticed over the years that manners are almost a thing of the past.

Example:

The building I work in is shared with various other businesses so we all share an entrance to the building.
It's always quite busy with people coming and going, so nine times out of ten you will end up holding the door open for someone else who is arriving/leaving. No problem.

BUT.........

And this is no exaggeration.... for every 10 times I hold the door open for someone only about 2-3 people say "thanks". :gun2:

I've gone from sarcastically saying "You're welcome".... which over time progressed into calling them "w*nker" under my breath..... which has now evolved into calling them "W*NKER" out loud!! :lmfao:

It drives me MAD. So much so that I now frequently go out of my way not to hold the door open for anyone in the building.

People just don't have manners anymore!

AND there's an ASN equivalent also:

Someone sends you a PM asking for info/advice... you respond with the info/advice they need.... and you receive no reply thanking you for your help.
Irritating.

I have to agree with what you say. Manners cost nothing, but seem to be in short supply these days. What rattles me the mot is that people mumble under there breath if you dont hold a door open for them under there breath, and dont get me started about the non replies you get from pm's. I have sent many including to peeps here on asn asking for advise on here and am truly amazed at yhe lack of response of some members to be honest. Rant over. Hope you have a good day and enjoy your weekend.

Or when you spend 10 minutes searching for an old thread with all of the answers that a new thread needs, post a link, and then nothing... Gay!

Thanks for taking the time to post Aythree ;)

I get that ALL the time! In threads too, it's a pretty poor show.

So thanks G-man.

The same goes at my gym when opening/holiding the door open, there all aragant Tw*ts who are so far up there own **** to say "cheers mate" or "Thanks" or even just "Ta"....

same goes with driving tho and when its a tight gap and you let them come through. all they have to do is give u a little flash of the headlights or just thumb/hand up. That winds me up the most!...

ARG! Most annoying thing ever! I find an exaggerated smile and a wave makes my point...

Easy solution ,Make them think your going to hold the door open then just as they come through let it go and pretend to look at your shoe
hopefully the door will contact there nostril enough to remind them manners

Thank you to all those out there has helpped me in the past on this forum, other forums and in life.
Thank you to all those that says thank you and show good maners in what ever you do in life.

Unfortunately the doors to our building are un-slamable cos they've got some sort of slo-mo mechanism. Guess I'll just have to punch them on the nostrils instead.

I totally agree with the OP. However, a breath of fresh air for me the other day. I was in our local Spar shop and there are two checkouts. I was at one and a 13year old lad (I know he's 13 as I know his mother), was at the other checkout (this lad doesn't know me btw). We both walked to the exit together, him slightly in front of me. To my surprise he opened the door and stood back to let me go through ahead of him, saying "after you..."

Good to see and of course I said thank you very much.

On a similar note, when you're out driving, how many drivers let you out of a junction etc nowadays? I've found myself having to barge my way out before now :aggressive:

That's just 4 ring jealousy :arco:

Perhaps the 9 out of 10 people used to hold the door open and now don't bother as nobody thanked them. Perhaps someone on another forum is slagging you off saying that some arrogant git at work calls me a ****er before I even get chance to thank him for holding the door for me. And now you're as bad as them since you no longer hold the door open. Shame on you. Shame on you.

haha! In all honesty, it drives me insane too. I can't understand why people are so rude. What could be so important not to shout thank you as you walk past. Dicks.

The thing is... they don't appear to do it intentionally (i.e. no one says thanks to them so they don't say it to others), they just seem to be unaware that it's something they should be saying.
I just think the sad truth is that a lot of people were not brought up to have manners.

I have to agree, manners are a thing of the past nowadays, as well as good customer service!!!

However, a feel good story for you, I was out on Saturday night in Leicester, the missis was driving the S3 as I was drinking, so she was parking up, and I was talking to some mates as they commented on how nice the car was looking, we locked up and walked off on our way to a few bars.....as were walking, I can hear a drunkard shouting oi mate in the background, didnt take any notice, until he said you with the Audi!!!

I turned round to say yea whats up mate, so he replies, aint you forgotten something on your car, you have the Silver Audi dont you, really winding me up, so I say to him, have you got a prob, to which he replies, yes mate, you have left your passenger window open on your car!!!

So i darted it back to the car and as he said, the window was wide open!!!

I locked up and came back, I could not thank the dude enough, so I gave him a couple of quid to get a drink for himself......

It was very much appreciated.....

Thats all folks :)

I totally agree. Good manners cost nothing but make a big difference. Agree with Aythree, I also think kids just arnt brought up and taught manners these days which is sad. Nothing nicer than when a child thanks you, its something I am making sure mine do.

Just dont lower yourself to their low standards, I still say thanks and will always hold the door open even though I hardly ever get a thank you.

I found this amusing today. I was in the middle of three lanes at a set of traffic lights, where the left two is for going straight on, and the right one for right turn only. There was traffic opposite, so no point launching the car when the lights turned green, so I pulled off slowly, when a 70 year old granny with white curls in the right lane decided to launch forward and indicating left. At this point, I kind of mumble :wtf:, but she turned her head(blind spot check) to make sure I knew what she was doing, so I backed off the throttle to crawling speed and gave her a nod. for her to come in. Once she made it into my lane, she opened her driverside window, and stuck her hand in the air with a thumbs up sign! Proper made me grin!
I had to follow her for another 2 miles incidently, and she was doing 30 in 30 and 40 in 40zones! Now why can't all OAP's drive like that?
