The TQS Owners thread

The downpipe and TIP are more about freeing up the engine then BHP aren't they?

they give little gain +1 or 2 bhp if that but as reesy said it more about freeing up engine breathing than anything to allow for more power to be put through with a map or bigger turbo.

shouldnt be to hard to fit a downpipe or get the downpipe fitted locally by a garage.

i will get a price of them for the cat.

as i think jamie wanted a cat with his if he still interested.

with reesy, jamie, newt and zeus we only need one more person to ensure the price will be £220 if not i doubt it will go up much or even at all people as i said this wont be untill august time as they will need my car for a couple of days and will have the money around august to get my exhaust done.

The downpipe is a piece of cake to fit, any half-decent garage can do it.

Newt, a vcds log I did on a hot day showed 165g/s max, which is 207bhp with the 0.8 rule. Though I was told by
my revo tuner that it was running at 212bhp after the remap, before my downpipe was fitted (then they upped the map), so I suspect around the 220 mark.

I'm a maybe on the downpipe btw, as if I decide to go BT, I will need a 5 bolt flange or K04 flange on the dp. I'll keep you guys posted.

Quick question, when you guys accelerate hard, do you get a mental sucking noise from the TIP/airbox... ?

I do get a sucking noise from my K & N, that along with the DV is nice when your tearing it up through the lanes, but not so cool when driving through the town high street..

Go hybrid, rather then BT and get the 3" DP

Mate, it's SUCH a hard decision. If I wanted decent power with the hybrid, I'd have to go JBS04 which is £600 more than the GT28RS, but the spool up time would be better and it's a straight fit with what I have now, and might require less mods. I guess I could go eliminator which has a k03 exhaust side flange...?! Argh, so difficult...

I'd go with the one that is the simplest and easiest to bolt straight on, as in the long run, that's probably going to work out the cheapest..

They are both easy to bolt on. Especially if you can find a GT28 with a K03/04 exhaust side flange. The only things I wouldn't need with the hybrid are a 300Nm clutch and the manifold. The labour may be a bit cheaper too. So I'd save perhaps 5-600 going with the hybrid, but I can get the GT28 for 600 less than the hybrid anyway, and it will see me at 325-350. See my dilemma? :(

Btw mate, I've made a decision - Having researched a lot, I'm going with the Toyosports intercooler - you up for it? :)

Yeah, you might have to be the guinea pig on that one though, unless you can wait for a bit, as I had about 3 weeks off between jobs, and I have just found out that my new job is monthly pay :sob: And as we are (hopefully) doing a group buy on this DP, I'll have to put the money aside for that first..

Just renewed my insurance, I'm with Adrian Flux now. Very impressed. Good price, freephone customer service, like for like cover on mods, they work on a bhp basis so only charge for performance upgrades and only the serious mods will increase the premium, typically % increase in power = % increase in premium, but not always.

I have already declared the front mount to them as I said i'll be doing it very soon, it made no difference to the premium at all :D I'm happy to be the guinea pig mate at least then you won't make any mistakes that I do...

f23 franken turbo is a k04 although they will include a pipe which connects from the k03 dp to the new turbo so can still get the downpipe and a nice bt as the f23 will produce around 320bhp

dane is getting one fitted i have emails from franken about this turbo its 1150 delivered to uk from usa.

flux ftw i had my last car 106 gti insured with them full list of mods.

engine rebuild, knife edge valves, vernier pullys, organic clutch, b8 and eibach suspension, full pug sport exhaust system, stripped out, roll cage, bucket seats, harnesses, cat cams 708's race cams, ported head.

and made no difference to price at all was exactly same price standard to non standard

Interesting bit of info there mate, thanks a lot. Just out of interest what did you end up paying and if you don't mind, how old are you? My renewal is not until October, but it's always interesting to know what different companies charge.

I remember you telling me about this... I'm very interested, do you think you could forward me any conversations?? - aandreou00@hotmail.com.

Thanks mate.

Yeah sure, I'm 22 with 3 years NCB.. Their full comprehensive premium was £790, or £805 with personal injury cover included. A lot of people have said good things about them to me, so I thought I'd give them a try (seeing as elephant won't insure any more mods) and I have to say I'm impressed so far...

Chris, I am reconsidering the intercooler lol. I have just been on a VW forum where they slate the Toyo ones pretty badly, saying the quality is shocking and the pipes are rubbish etc.

I have just seen that I can get a Forge universal FMIC (slightly bigger than the Toyo one even) for £180!!!!!!!!! I am going to look into it further.... If I can get all piping for less than £70, it will be the same as the Toyo one!

Also, if we do our own piping, we can probably ensure that the fogs stay :)

P.S. Sorry about all the seperate posts.

Are you sure it's a genuine Forge one, and do you have a link??

Any idea what pipe work we will need to fit it to our old sheds?

Thanks for the insurance info mate, did you do it all on the phone or by e-mail?

i did mine through the phone although i am paying 1700 will breakdown cover and windscreen cover 24 with 1 yr ncb and unlimited millage.

Thanks for the email mate! I'll read it tonight :)

Mines not unlimited mileage, and I don't have breakdown cover, plus you have more mods than me. Having said that, my area is quite low on the car theft front... which helps.

Chris - Flux give their best rates over the phone.

Yes mate it's genuine, from dcperformance (I've used them before, very reputable):

Forge Motorsport Universal Intercoolers

We'd need some alloy elbows, straights and a good length of silicone tubing.. I'll mock something up..

See what you can do mate, one of the main things is the size of the inlet + out let holes on the core, if they are too big then we've go no chance of keeping the fogs.

just ditch the fogs saves messing about m8 to be fair

Nice one for teh reply Zeus not too bad then on the old BHP :)

Got my car back last night... Several pipes where leaking and the good guys at R-Tech sorted it all. Everything that is no use has been deleted. I now have no secondary air intake,N249 or Egr valve :p and the catch can looks the bizz, i'm very happy with the work they have done to my car so far... Hmmmmm what next lol

I'm going to take my bumper off this weekend and feed some pipe through and see where it catches and do some measuring etc.

Having got bored of not spending any money on the car, I've just ordered the rear aero wiper bits from Stoke Audi, and the ambient light install stuff, just to make a few subtle changes to the old girl...

Also, just had the ABS light come on, scanned the car and it has come up with :
01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent 00290

ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit

Anyone had any of these before?

A little look round with the bumper off:

From the side:

Leaves in the SMIC :(

From the top.. See, plenty of room :)

This thing will have to go if we are to fit ANY fmic. I don't even know what it is:

Here is the 2.25" pipe that goes to the turbo.. Don't know how the hell it gets there though..

I think we will be able to fit most sizes of core mate provided it's not deeper than 80mm. The piping out of the cooler doesn't even look too bad I can't see it fouling the fogs too much, the big issue I'm seeing is getting the pipe to the turbo, the pipe to the throttle body is fine.

I reckon 2" might be the best option if we want any chance of keeping the fogs, then just bring it up to the size we need when it meets the stock pipework.

Major result today. My passenger side front window hasn't worked for well over a year, mate got in and flicked the switch taking the **** (as he does every time) and this time it dropped! Over the moon.

As you were.

I think 2.5 is possible AND keeping the fogs. I'm doing a CAD drawing as we speak

i have 63mm pipe and there is no way you can keep the fogs with that. best off luck to ya both with it but honistley it would be quicker and easyer to loose the fogs
