Try cleaning it they do get coated in oil...

I have cleaned it once before. I'll do a straight swap for Tam's one and see what happens. If the temps are a lot lower with his AIT sensor I'll give mine a clean. If that fails i'll buy a new one.

I'm hoping that maybe I damaged the sensor when fitting my insulator gasket on Tuesday. Bill never mentioned any high readings with it on Friday

There's no way it can read nearly 50 degrees but the mani is cold to the touch........ is there???

Yeah, its possible as the charge air hits those temps under high boost and the inlet is insulated from the engine with the phenolic spacer... the inlet will heat up more quickly without a phenolic as the engine is a constant heat whereas the charge air temp's will vary... the inlet won't absorb the heat from the charge air as quick so will remain cooler even though the IAT's are high... when off boost then the IAT's will drop and the inlets heat soak will be much less anyway... if that makes sense :)

It would heat up eventually though...

Surely if the core was too small for the job you wouldn't expect worse AITs than with the 2 standard SMICs would you?

Yeah you would sadly... pressure drop aside the overall cooling effect and recovery ability will be less as you have reduced the effective surface area of the cooling...

Difficult to say whats happening with yours in comparison to Tam's but I would still consider that FMIC you have as a bit on the small side...

Well I'll try the AIT sensor and failing that Tam's FMIC. If his cooler is doing a better job than mine it'll be going back on eBay and I'll be shopping for a new core :(

I know swapping the cores will be a right pain in the chuff, however it's a worthwhile test IMO.

Give Alex at AH a call about my old cooler... I am ringing him around 10:30 to chase anyway so will have a word...

Yeah I was thinking it would be a good test too. I really hope it's just the AIT sensor as that's a 2 min job.

If you wouldn't mind having a word with him that would be great.

Oh and some more bad news. I may have to sell my 17" avus wheels as I have nowhere to store them and I'm getting grief off the old man for filling up his garage with car bits! That's what a garge is for IMO :)

one of your logs from last friday.... - it was running hot as well as dropping 7psi

That's interesting that the JR Filter dropped the inlet temps.... :)

I would guess that it has a bit to do with the bonnet being open, however that does contradict the general thoughts.

Well the 2nd set or results is pretty much the same as the ones I got last night. It is interesting that the Jetex helped out. I'm not as worried now ;) but still not happy.

Comparison of respective pressure's, boost vs @ turbo between the 2 cars from the day
(I'm good to you boys!)

Pressure in BAR is @ Turbo
Pressure in PSI is at inlet manifold

I'm interested in your fingings regarding IAT's as i suffer from similar probs as well.
I can see IAT as high as 55' and dropping at 30' on boost.
I did once a pre FMIC pressure reading and i swear i could see 2-4 psi less than post FMIC.
Could that be real?

Personally Neil, I just think your FMIC is too small :S It's the same size as I'm running on my ko3S. Compare it to things like Wellys monster cooler and it's no wonder you're seeing such high IATs!

I have put the wheels in motion for an AH Fab cooler ;)

Sounds good

1 question, are your pockets never ending? I wish I had enough £££ to splash out on modding my car as quick as you do :notme:

No unfortunately not. I do run my budget quite tight most months but I'm one of these people who hates having things incomplete or not working properly.

As soon as another free weekend listing appears on eBay I have a load of car bits that I am hoping to make some money back on.

which AH one you planning w3sty?

Well originally it was going to be the same as Tuffty's old core with 60mm pipework but after some PM's with him I may just wait and see what sort of results his new one yields and may end up with one of those instead.

With any luck Dane's core will turn up soon and I can see exactly what it's doing when you get his motor on your rollers ;)

When is this new AH intercooler going to be out and what is the difference. Are they a good fit or require alot cutting etc.

I was thinking about this last night and the only way I can think of is to have 2 boost guages. 1 comes from the N75 and one comes off the inlet mani.

so my mech boost guage is getting a reading from the manni pressure, where does the liquid get its readings from? am i on to something? lol

Liquid reads from MAP sensor mate so more or less the same as your boost gauge currently... what you could try of course is logging actual boost (115 or 118) and plumbing the boost gauge into the N75 boost feed... using a handy assistant you can drive while they make a note of boost from the gauge at certain RPM's and then you should get a rough idea of whats what... providing you are not running more boost than the MAP sensor will see at least...
