 Prawn - All I can say is... Money must fall from trees in your garden! :(

Awesome list of mods. Thanks buddy.

If money fell from the trees, I'd have started with something better than an A3 ;)

Money is tight, and many parts have been second hand bargains, I'm constantly searching for a bargain, and jump on things when they come up! You can build a great car on a tight budget, it just takes time.

Sadly, we now have to pay out proper money for a roll cage, which isn't about to come up second hand!

what cage you getting prawn?

safety devices or custom cage

Well, nobody makes a cage for the A3 from what I can find! I've found a weichers 6 point cage, but it's not very comprehensive.

I'm currently looking at an OMP multi point bolt in made for a golf 1 make race series. it's a bit more comprehensive than those sold on ebay, and being mk4 golf fitment, it should fit.

Custom cages was the original plan, but the idea is a bolt together car, with minimal structural mods, so should the worst happen, it can all be easily transfered over to a new shell

Full custom isn't cheap especially if you want to get it welded to the front struts. My mate got this done for his BMW:

6 point cage sounds nice is that a dash dodger or not?
safety devices cages are good quality, prices not to bad either

mk4 golf should fit maybe a lil adjusting but sure it could fit could s3 dave not make anything as he does a lot of steel fabing

thats a cage and half westy welded are better cages although sometimes its roof off jobbie i know they do this with the porsches at ninemeister.

that BMW cage looks like it was done at X-sport racing to me Westy, am I right?

Syvo, it is KIND of a dash dodger, but not in the jap style bendy legs way you're thinking. Those type of dash dodgers arn't FIA compliant as they have too many bends in the front legs. the OMP cage I'm looking at comes down just behind the dash, but the legs are straight so as to remain FIA compliant.

I'd love a custom cages weld in, but I want something removable should we ever need a new shell, the cage is such a large outlay we don't want to risk having to pay out twice.

I'd happily get a cage that goes through the dash right up front, but all the bolt in's available for the mk4 platform come down just in front of the dash, so that's what it'll be!

Will probably add crossed (removable) door bars though, and a harness bar

Chris, what has happened to your lovely A3 TQS thread :p and when are you going to get a front mount with me lol :D ?

Car was feeling sluggish last few days, petrol was in the last 1/8th. Filled up with a fresh 50litres of Momentum99, and wow I'm back on the big boost. I don't think my car likes having less than 1/4 tank of fuel left...

Out of interest, I can get a Garrett GT28RS (60) for £838.00 brand new, if anyone is interested... I'm certainly tempted myself. Syvo, what's the status on these downpipes, I'd be interested in swapping mine out for a 3" instead of the 2.75" I've got now.

I know, we've been spammed to death by 2wd A3 and S3 owners!! I'm still hoping prawn can find some info on this invisible install, as I just don't fancy having pipes hanging out the front of my sensible 5 door Audi :lmfao: It will be a couple of weeks before I get the front mount, but I think they are still £189 on eBay, which is a bit of a bargain.

My car regularly has a quarter of a tank or less in it, so I'll keep an eye on that.

Is that turbo only, as you'll have a few bits to do to get it all working with the car

I've seen this posted in this thread somewhere but can't seem to find it again! so, sorry for the repost :( I'm in desperate need of upgrading my front brakes on my TQS and I previously read someone had a link for reconditioned S3 brake systems on eBay? I would appreciate it massively if someone could send me the link for this!

cheers

Two weeks sounds good to me. It's the toyosports ones that are supposedly an OK fit right? I'd like to do a bit more research and make sure the one I buy will fit without killing the fogs, and certainly without crash-bar modification.
Got to pay my insurance renewal in a week, but it's not too bad, so the money is ok :)

I know it was getting major heat-soak last week in that hot weather, but not sure what was up this week, just felt sluggish, then as soon as I put a full tank of '99 in... it was pulling REALLY nicely.

That's just the turbo. But it's cheaper than a k03/04 hybrid by a long way, and the same additions are needed:

T25 flange - turbo manifold £350 (ebay £99 but not recommended!)
Forge Throttle body pipe (might come with the FMIC) £60
K04 downpipe (I believe the above GT28rs has a k04 exhaust side flange)
Gaskets and fastners <£100
Oil and fuel lines £50
S3 Injectors / or 440cc ones £250
4bar Fuel Pump £70
3 Inch MAF £50
Remap £300
>300Nm Clutch - anywhere from £250 to £1000.
Labour (1 day) £400

Can you think of anything else?

yeh i know which cage you mean and yeh was on about the bendy leged dash dodger cage.
door bars are a must imo door cards staying or going? just wondering what you gonna do about opening the doors have seen alot of the race cars with the strap that you pull to open the door good weight saving idea with piece of carbon covering the door pannel.

no news at mo as need at least 5 cars only got you two down for it

Effing S3 owners :banghead::ninja:

The forum is full of people asking the same fmic questions week after week, yet a genuinely helpful a3 specific thread comes up, and it gets merged into all the s3 stuff so people will never find it again!

Even if they could find it and read it and it made perfect sense people will still post a new thread :keule:

The best thing to do is to get under your car and start measuring up ;)

I've seen your comments on the FMIC thread. Have you got a turborevs on your A3 mate? How did it fit?

duno will have to find out as they would only be doing two downpipes in such as mine is going to be full system.

just emailed them will have to wait for reply

That intercooler thread is killing my brain!! I can see what Tim has bought, but not how it was fitted, or what it looked like which is total balls..
I'm assuming it came out alright though.

Syvo, we never got a definitive price for the 5 of us, so it shouldn't make a massive difference to price

Syvo don't forget I'd like one of these too so put me down on the list of peeps wanting one :L

220 each was the defo price from them if there was 5 of us m8

ok newt will add you on

My car goes back to to R-tech tomorrow for the n249 bypass and oil catch can mod. Can't wait to feel how it goes without the boost leak.

universal = welding into place

Correct. Also, the MIJ downpipe will come with a flange on it like mine did. So you would have to weld a flange to both ends of that cat. I'd just get MIJ to put one of their 200 cell ones on the end of the downpipe for those who want it.. ?

I'd want a cat, just to make life easier when it comes to MOT time. I remember hearing that 200cell is sufficient. Might just get a mij one, as long as it's not much more expensive.

Anyone know how easy the DP is to fit, as I'm not sure it's cost effective for me to travel up to you lot, unless the fitting is really cheap
