As tuffty said i too have a bad fuel pump, so bad that as soon the turbo starts to spool up fuel pressure goes down to 2 bar (with 3 bar fpr)
Fuel pump swap is pretty much straightforward, if you want to save some quid you could buy only the swirl port and pump and use your lid, fuel sender, ring screw and rubber seal.

AUDI A3 TT 1.8T 3.2 V6 INTANK FUEL PUMP 183VG0630 | eBay
Or this complete
OEM AUDI TT QUATTRO (8N) - Fuel Pump 02-06 | eBay
Before you buy make sure you tell them your chassis number, there are 2 types, pre 2002 and post 2002.

Jesus, not cheap then! How much are the ones from Audi?

So how come the inline pump didn't work for you?
The intank can't keep up with the inline even though she sn't producing any pressure, did a bit of an experiment yesterday by disconnecting the fuel hose that feeds the injector rail and stick into a bucket filled with petrol then i connected the bosch 044 to the injector rail and dipped onto the bucket with petrol, connected the 2 pumps electrically together and fired up the engine and i could see the fuel level dropping into the bucket.
Don't be tempted to buy any so called uprated intank fuel pumps, there isn't any, i made this costly mistake.
Reputable tuners use inline like walbro and bosch.

Not as bad as Tam's cigarettes :)

Good luck fella, since your staying K04, strive for 300bhp if possible ......

8L9919051G - £220.37+VAT

It also actually also fits a 4motion mk4 golf engine codes BFH and BHR and listed as a VDO model.

Also looking at the margins in cost and retail theres quite a bit ;) £186 inc vat it could be done for lol. Through me anyway..just depending on where you are or could be. If you`re sometimes in cambridgeshire then you`d come past Bedford wouldnt you? Although dont know how often you come that way.

Fitted one of Bill's thingy gaskets tonight. It spaces the inlet mani away from the head to help prevent heat soak in the mani:

While the mani was off I inspected the state of the TB. Not a drop of oil in sight so the new FMIC and my catch can are doing well:

I was really hoping you'd get closer to 300 HP :(
What airflow readings are you getting now??

Large port head and wmi next? Hehe, just tempting ya

300bhp is damn hard to get close to with the K04. It's now going to be down to fueling and cooling to allow for more boost and timing to get some more horse out of the old girl.

I am considering WMI or maybe just a spray kit for the FMIC. New fuel pump is getting fitted next week so I will head back to bill's again at some point with either WMI or a spray kit and we'll see what we can do.

I know its hard. But with the 3 inch tip and your brand new turbo it could get closer than what's been achieved in the past.
It's a well sorted car you got now dude, hopefully mine will be as good a standard one day.

Nice work, westy suggestions - why not sell the family to buy an ah fab cooler + wmi + bigger pump thingy which goes above & beyond the job?

:) you've come too far not to

I could go totally mental mate but the whole idea was to create a sorted K04 car with mods that would help others on this forum. Not everyone can afford a huge turbo and custom made FMIC ;) so I'm doing it the pikey way.

I reckon it's the exhaust manifold that's stopping you getting closer to 300bhp, seeing as Welly made almost 40bhp on the hybrid going from the OEM manifold to the XS stainless, the OEM manifold must be the restricting factor there.

I think you could be right mate.

Welly was also able to add endless amounts of timing to his map due to the efficient cooling from his FMIC and WMI kit. I'm currently looking into WMI ;)

His largeport head helped too tbh mate... small ports don't seem to like much timing on high boost... acid test will be Danes...

Next time you`re up at hers give us a shout. Only takes half hour from Bedford.

They all know she`s going to pop in this afternoon and what she`s collecting so will be expecting her later on. Invoice is stapled to the box and seal is too.

Westy, the number plate surround you got. Does the whole number plate sit into it or does it just stick to the bottom of the plate. From looking at the pic on ebay its hard to tell.
Cheers
Dave.

Bit of a backward step tonight, a big one!

I removed my drivers SMIC and put the new pipework on so I was just running my FMIC. I went out for some logging and got the following results:

OnlyFMIC.jpg

Great airflow but check out the temps!!!

It then got worse:

OnlyFMIC2.jpg

I then went out in Tam's car and did some logging. His core is the exact same dimensions as mine before anyone says mine's too small. Tam didn't get anything higher than 32 degrees and the temp tended to go down when on boost.

My core:

Universal FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER 560 x 180 x 63mm | eBay UK

Tam's Core:

AUDI S3 - FRONT MOUNTED TURBO INTERCOOLER KIT 1.8 20v T | eBay UK

Now I dont understand this because I stopped straight after doing the above 47 degree run and popped the hood. The inlet mani was cold at the AIT sensor end and the FMIC was cold too!

When I logged my FMIC and SMIC last week I didnt see anything above 32 degrees. How can just removing the SMIC have caused this?

The next thing to try will be Tam's FMIC on my car.

It's possible i guess. Is it possible to swap sensors off tams car?
Mines always warm to the touch, so if yours is cold right after a hot run, they may be false readings.

Kid on SCN had a faulty ait sensor, bought a new one for around a tenner and temps dropped straigt away by about 15c degrees a think. Worth a punt mate.
