Ive recently purchased my S3, i was in two worlds deciding what was better an Audi TT mk1 or an Audi S3.

while going to view the one i brought i found out it was the facelift model so couldnt go wrong. armrest, bose, and heated seats (all in 1)

Current had an Audi A2 1.4 (75BHP) now an S3 2001 Facelift model. (225BHP? right or am i wrong?)

that is the facelift model am i correct or wrong?

Also when i done an oil check its low on oil. what is the best oil to fill up with?

Thanks Andre,

Hi mate welcome to ASN and great buy, yes its a facelift but it may still be the 210bhp version, as the AMK is 210 but its early to mid 2001 so early facelift, where the late end of 2001 the BAM was released which is a 225 facelift. You can check in your engine bay there will be a tab on the side of the engine, I cant remember exactly where but someone will tell you.

alright thanks, im still waiting for the V5 from DVLA, so if its a late 2001. its 225bhp?

its an X reg. so im guessing its an early version. person that i got it off said it was the facelift model 225 so ill just have to confirm. but yes S3 are reliable cars unlike the audi tt's

Welcome and congrats.
It's basically the exact same car as a tt but looks far more manly!
The engine code is on the left hand side of the cylinder head, take the plastic cover off and youl see it.

And give us more pics! :)

i shall get to take more pictures of it. and then ill share them.

also how would i adjust the headlight's? on my A2 there was a button you would scroll up and down, S3 doesnt have it for some strange reason.

also the picture i uploaded, where is the mute button havent figured it out yet :S was pressing all the buttons

Headlights self adjust to the right level, provided they work and are calibrated to the mot required level. When you turn them on youl see them rise slightly, or should. Bit more flash than the a2 eh ;)
And there is no mute, at least ive never discovered one. On mine there's just loud, and louder.

On my A2, it had headlight adjuster setting to lower the headlight or raise it. yes i was told but mine dont raise otherwise will blind drivers! :p

should have a sticker in the front of the owner's manual stating engine code, paint code, interior colour code etc.........listing the options it has.....one of them should be the engine code AMK or BAM.........mine is a 51plate and is a facelifted AMK (if that helps with the model timeline)

sorry mate, but please tell me you're not really asking us AFTER the event what precise model of car you purchased ???

People take note....future advice to people wishing to buy an S3 - check the obvious (car model, engine size, etc) and don't take the owners word. Even if you were to now confront the owner he will probably just say that is what he was led to believe.
Oh I could go on with so many stories - which I'm sure most of us have come accross.......But I'll resist.

Thats stunning mate very shiny its been looked after well done on that buy.

The leather looks to be in really good condition....sometimes the black can look worn..really good buy getting all the extras as well !

yes, when i was looking for the right 1 i found out that it only has 2 features, for example leather sets no arm rest with bose and no heated seats and so on. so i was happly i found the right one.

if i didnt view it on friday it would have been sold to another person on saturday, finding a nice car is hard but when u do. OMG its stunning :arco:

My Pride n Joy

Looks nice. Did you get the air freshner with it too?

infact I did, but my car wash always gives me one and i just through it away, its kind annoying since sometimes it pokes my leg. got to throw it away! :haha::haha:

Glad you're happy with it. It looks like a good one.
Both 210 and 225 remap to the same figure anyway... soooo.... get it remapped!

I live in central london, max is 30mph and its like every 300 yards a set of traffic lights!

Any Suggestion for mod's wise,

pictures would help!

Engine ill pass for now. maybe in 6months time or so.
Stlying mod's & Chassis.

Chassis - Low and wide?...New wheels or space out standard ones. Lowering springs, dampers and springs, or coil overs. anti roll bars. Poly bushes. Poly dog bone mount. Haldex controller. Lcr top mounts. Adjustable tie bars.

Cheaper subtle styling mods - lcr front splitter/spoiler. Chrome mirrors. Aero wipers. Paint grill.

So what benifit do you get with spacing the wheels, just wondering as mine is standard at the moment

Thanks Chris

Well not only does it look good. Wider track = less roll in hard cornering, it takes more lateral force to roll a wider body, so it should make a little difference to mid corner stability. Obv there is only so much it can do before the suspension will need upgrading to improve rigidity, but every little helps.

You have got me interested now lol, what is the recommended size and will I need longer wheel bolts. Andre are you going to do this then.

There's no recommended size as such, but I can imagine 10mm all round will look good on the car, and possibly feel a little more planted in a hard corner. You can go bigger than that obv. I have a 16mm wider track on the front and 24mm wider on the back. Looks alright :)

Welcome to the money pit club mate.... If you did have any spare cash laid about you won't now:keule:

not at the moment, but im interested in having subtle mods done such as paint grill n front splitter. for now. where would i get this done at? i dont understand how many thing do you need to lower your car? say im looking at to get some coilovers. but not too low since where i live they have huge speed bumps.

Andre

Suspension wise, if i were you living in central London, i'd just go for some lowering springs.
Apex seem to be the cheapest recommended ones, then Eibach, then H&R. All are recommended and proven and won't be too low for speed bumps. I think Eibach's are the softest and H&R the firmest, but if i'm wrong someone will correct me!

Then i'd stick 10mm front and 15mm rear spacers on (PW Motorsport were the cheapest I found, including longer bolts), paint or vinyl wrap the grill surround... maybe get some nice new wheels... and that would be a pretty good start!
