How have you secured your s-line grilles??

Alright lads,

just wondering how people have secured their s-line bumper grilles??

I've got mine in the post today for a conversion that will be happening this week and at a well over €150 for all 3 grilles I have heard some horror stories about grilles being stolen from cars etc and do not want to have to fork out the same again for more grilles because some scumbag decides he wants mine instead of paying for them...

The obvious solution seems to be cable ties but that seems very un-tidy... any suggestions??

I'm interested in this too because I've just picked up a votex and saw that a guys grills a few streets away have all gone walkies. Problem with votex is that the grills are hard to find now regardless of price so the more that get damaged or disappear the more likely I reckon mine are to be nicked. The flip side is that there's a chance they could get damaged (or even worse the bumper itself) if someone tries to force them off. What do people do?

Put a layer of anthrax over them or that stuff that Bruce Willis uses on the mini van in the film the jackal , that would surely thwart the scallies

sorry guys but i assume you are talking about the s-line grills on a b7 or conversion.... i don't exactly live in a bubble but someone would go to the trouble of actually dismantling the grills????.......thieving bar stewards!!
just out of interest, i know someone who got the chrome trims put on their a3 s-line, looks great, am i right in thinking that something similar isn't possible on a b6 a4 due to complete different design, i hear some that talk about blacking out the chrome on the grill but clearly not much other fancy trim is possible i imagine.....

My a4 has the standard SE bumper at the min and it is going in for an s-line upgrade some time this week... so was just wondering how people have it done... odds are I will go with cable ties... but was just curious if people had it done in a more secure way...

you can also use a silcone silant in black just means you would have to run a stanly blade around it if you want them out but would stop any one just pulling them out for sure

Thats not a bad idea Simon... I wouldnt have thought of that... hence why I put up the thread ... might look a bit tidier than the cable ties... cheers man

I used black screws to secure my grilles,i noted with red arrows where i put them

I bought clips from the main dealer to replace my broken votex grills clips, they were about £5 but worth it to save messing about with silicone sealer/glue etc.

I'll get the part number tonight if you need it?

oh i see, i thought sport and s-line were completely different but i get you now. i have a sport so i guess i have this same valance.... you've made me think about securing them now, but like everything else i'll probably never get round to it...

No cracks,is just plastic;you don`t need to drill,just push the screws into the plastic to secure the grills.
If you need i can make some pictures for you with close look.

There are many types out there, its not a particularly cheap option as you have to buy the 'bit' to undo them but shop around, it stops the opportunist. I then painted the heads black as i couldnt find security screws that were already black japaned.

Good call. I think that's the way I'll go when mine are fitted. The existing grill clips on mine are already non-return screws but the clips look too easy to prize open (they also need painting black). I hope a few security screws through into the plastic on each one will be enough of a deterrent - just so long as any potential thieves don't damage the grills out of spite!
