Car just had a re-gas at Audi Wimbledon but advised needs new unit/compressor. They suggest £850.00 just for the part!!! Any suggestions as with the current weather the car is unbearable.

The part is expensive, you could fit a used part for a lot cheaper. ebay may offer a bargain. audi prices are always high. failing that open your window

Get it on VAG come first. Very common fault is the hight pressure sensor which is to the right of the cooler when looking at the front of the car. Does the ECON light go out??

If you do need the part check out if their are some non OEM ones. I had one go on my previous Seat Toledo and due to the cost of the car Seat themselves got a non-OEM one in for me at half the price, otherwise the charge would have been very similar to what they are asking you.

And don't let Audi near it, they know nothing about aircon, they'll just replace ludicrously priced parts until the problem goes away. Audi don't make any of the components for the A/C so take it to an aircon specialist. Should be about £400 fitted at a specialist, but as said I wouldn't trust Audi's diagnosis at all.
Does the ac fan spin? This is a common failure and a very easy fix

I've just been quoted £1900 by Audi to replace the compressor and flush the system. Awaiting a quote from an A/C specialist instead.

went to get my aircon regased at a local indy and it didnt work they pressure tested but there was no leak,so he went to use vagcom and tryed get the ac fan to work through vagcom and it still wont work.I've had to book it in again so he can do more checks as he was closing and didnt have time to do it.Do any of you guys no what other things it could be thats causing the air con not to work?

just repaired mine ,the eco light wouldn't go out so wouldn't fire up the fans or compressor , read on the net it need re-gasing as low pressure would stop it working so had it done but still no joy ,so booked it into a local specialists and he tested and found pressure switch faulty but couldn't locate it LOL, so i went on net and found it is located on the side of the air-con rad at the side of the passenger headlights , rang audi and they had one in stock @ £52.88 so got it and fitted it ,i have nice ice cold air-con now

I had my B6 Tdi re-gassed at my local garage £45 for test, empty old oil, and refill with new oil, now its ICE cold!!! I'am a happy chappy :))

rub it in why not lol

****** hell Simon is your aircon still not working, i've just had mine re-gassed and is ice cold but when i had my mot done on friday they noticed it was leaking from the nut on the metal pipe that goes into the rad i hope that this will be easy to fix as i've just been robbed by the government for the £245 road tax aaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh.

so are you guys all saying that if it aint "ice cold" then its not working properly? mine blows out quite cool air but i wouldn't call it cold cold, if that makes any sense, so should i be looking at an obvious service/ re-gas?

Audigeez,

My aircon just was'nt cold when i started using it this year so just had it re-gassed but now i know why it stopped working its cos its got a leak but hopefully not an expensive fix just a nut that needs tweeking up

It should be blowing ice cold air. If it's not, it's blowing air at outside temp - equivalent of pushing the 'econ' button. So, I would say, it needs a service / re-gas.

Why have you not had your car for 4 weeks mate.
