Good work man, looks good, hope it works just as well too :)

One complaint though (please don't shoot me):

You need to trim the centre blocks down a bit more on the LCR splitter, it looks like you'v left them a bit too high in the middle, and it's bowed down in the centre.

SO many people do that, and it just doesn't look quite right, it's ment to be a smooth line across the bottom, but with it bowing down in the middle it looks like a kid making a stupid face!

I did mention that to Tam when I did it but he said it looked ok so I blame him ;) I'll trim it up a bit more.

I'll do some logging tonight and no doubt the bumper will have to come off again so I'll get the splitter off again then.

Looks great though dude, very impressed you're doing all this at night. Wish I had a garage big enough to work in like that!

I would quite happily work on the car every night, I love it.

How competant is your late night mechanics team? reckon you could take on a clutch job on an S3?

Haha I ****** hope the clutch holds out! Tam only struggled with 21+psi so I'm hoping to be fine.

I couldn't tackle a clutch job in my garage, that's something i'd pay 4Rings to do ;)

I know it's a bit more simple, but we did a 6 speed o2m FWD box change on Bobs leon on the side of the pavement in a narrow street in pompey last summer, with only very basic tools and axle stands

It's not a case of not having the tools or the skill to do it, it's just something I dont really fancy doing. If I had a full day to do it in one hit would be ok but not evenings after work.

I haven't got any more things to do now for late night mechanics :(

hope it fits onto the dyno without chinning itself with the lcr splitter

might check your pressure drop across the cores whilst its on the dyno as I am curious

Just wondering how you plan on testing the pressure drop across the core because we dont have pressure sensors before the cooler.
 
They are part of the dyno equipment, so you can see boost graphs after the run.
 
I think the boys T into the n75 take off, as that's directly after the turbo, so will give a pre IC reading, then the FPR/DV line for an after IC reading.

Spot on... Bill's dyno has two pressure feeds... one is in BAR and the other in PSI... the PSI feed is the one we normally use for boost pressure... typical doing a pressure drop test consists of two back to back runs (with a bit of cool down inbetween if needed) one with the feed plumbed into the FPR feed and then into a tee from the N75 feed off the charge pipe... these runs are overlaid and the comparison can be made...

What's pressure drop on standard coolers? I imagine it will be very similar as there is still two coolers.

Good question... need to find a std car to test first LOL...

Just been out for a drive to check for leaks....... they're everywhere! Got to nip all the clamps up.

I did however do some logging and got a g/s reading of 214! AITs were no better than when I did logging with the smics but half the air is ******* out so not a fair test.

Time to get the spanners out.
 
Yeah I just looked on Goolge maps. Southport to Stroud is 3 hours. It takes me about 2.5 hours so not that much difference ;)

My girlfriend is based in high wycombe so I do go down that way alot, one day il make bills part of my trip.
Perhaps the next rolling road day.........hint hint bill/tufty.

Shame about the iats, bet you wer looking for some nice low 20's. Your using some really good clamps on the hoses i see, you shouldnt have been a pussy with them Haha

Those t-bolt clamps aren't all that tbh mate... I bought a load when I first fitted my AH Fabs FMIC and if it wasn't for Alex's pressure tester kit I would have been leaking like a sieve all the way home...

Only use JCS Hi-Torque or Hi-Grip ones now... they are a lot better... ;P

Yeah, I would have arranged something already but with GTI coming up I wanted that out the way... dyno days tend to get better attendance after peeps have been paid and not just been to A N Other event :)

These T clamps never seem to tighten and I didn't want to crush the alloy pipework. I managed to get to all the bolts bit 1 will the bumper on. Started to take the bumper off the drivers side and the heavens opened. Looks like I'll be taking a look tomorrow.

Unlucky mate... there is a risk of crushing sadly.. they don't give enough feedback when tight to know when to stop... thats why I prefer the JCS ones... you know when they are tight enough and they go much tighter than off the shelf jubilee's

Success!

The rain stopped and I got the last clamp tightened up and went for another spin. I cant hear any air escaping now so it's definitely an improvement.

Outside temp was 13 degrees and was damp from the rain shower. Whilst cruising around off boost AITs were between 18-21. On boost up to redline in 4th I saw 32 degrees max but it then imediately dropped back down to low 20s once off boost. Nice airflow reading of 216g/s ;)

The inlet mani was cold to the touch after my run which is the first time it's ever been like that. Quite impressed with it but a hot summers day will be the test.

I looked at it briefly last night but it will take a bit of effort. Ideally I'd want to feed the ducting into the wing like the standard one but to do that the hole to the wing needs to be cut bigger and then the hole in the box needs to be cut bigger and the ducting sealed into the box.

I'm getting 216g/s at pressent with a standard filter so I might benefit from a Jetex or a 4" feed into the standard box. I would like to do the 4" ducting but I'll have to see if I get time.
 
Lol it never ends, one thing leads to another. I was hoping the FMIC would have been a little less hastle not having to chop bits around. But fair play to you its all come together, just get the final bits trimmed and fitted to your bumper and jobs a goodun, finally us S3 owners have a reasonable priced FMIC set up to consider.
 
This whole setup was about £200 all in. Cutting the bumper is a pain in the **** but 99% of fmic installs need a little bit of trimming. I think that if the core had smaller ins/outs between 50-55mm it would have been a lot easier to get the bumper and trim on. I only used 63mm because the standard smics use 63mm.
