What colour S3 Avus for the Track?

Oh, even the custom mixed ones? They were about £10/11 from memory but that was ages ago...
 
the paint is very thin from halfrauds they use more thinners so the paint mix will go further i.e they make more paint for less money!

body shop will be able mix what you want you could give them the paint code and ask them to add extra in if you want westy so pearl in the green would look good would make it a 2 stage paint last longer as there is two layers to get through to get to the base (3 if including laquer)

oooo I'm liking the sound of a pearl effect in the green :hubbahubba:

These wheels might end up looking crazy
 
go to the body shop ask them for a mix tell them what you using it for and they should alter the mix to accord to what the paint is going to be used for should be a thicker paint for the wheels so the paint does not chip or flake easy.

2pac: is good paint hard wearing very basic colours (ie no tints or pearl's solid colours mainly)
water based: go nuts any colour you can think off have a look on the house of kolour website they have some crazy paint colours on there if you want the wheel to stand out on track.

I'm liking the Green so I think i'll stick with that but I may add a pearl so it reflects nicely. I dont want the cost of paint to go through the roof for track wheels!
 
Kosmic-Glo & Kosmic Long-Glo - House of Kolor

i do remember a guy who used to have a green mondeo with black wheels the body was coloured using the house of kolor glow in the dark paint so when the car ever went past it looked like it was floating cause the wheels were black and the car was glow in the dark looked nuts.

if you wanna test a bit of glow in the dark paint i know b&q sell it in can's

That's maybe a touch too far as these wheels will only be on the car for track days (in the day). I like the Idea though :think:
 
Also just spoke to "spit & Polish" in Kent and they will refurb them and powdercoat in any colour I want for £66 a wheel including the VAT so that's £264 for the set and they will be in mint condition. Less hassle and a perfect finish.

You can powdercoat those wheels in Green for £80 in Birmingham, or pay £120 if you have the tyres still on, they will remove, refit and rebalance them for you.

Jesus that's cheap! What's the company name? I dont have any tyres on mine so It'll work out even cheaper for me to courier them to Brum.
 
Just to let you guys know, you have to let the phone ring for ages before anyone picks up, they are really busy and work as a team, so it kinda buggers things up when need to answer the phone. Quite a lot of people just turn up with their wide rims and drop them off, insisting they be ready for GTI Inters... I doubt they'd be ready on time, but that was last week.
 
Yeah, I'm not that fussed cus my new uns will be here soon but good for returning the winters
 
I contacted the Powder Coaters that Jojo posted above and they said it'll be £20 a wheel and they usually turn thm around within 2-3 days. I've also found a courier that charge £25 each way to deliver them.

Now i'm back to being unsure on colour again as I clicked on the following red and fell in love with the red (pic1) and the green (pic2) :uhm:

Even the pink is looking appealing from those pics!

s3dave has kindly knocked me up some hanging brackets that should arrive today. They will enable the core to sit a bit futher back from the bumper so that there is ample clearance for the pipework. I'm looking forward to getting to work.
 
Ok, the moment you've all been waiting for..........

Late Night Mechanics try to fit a FMIC!

Got cracking at 18:30 by removing the front bumper. There's already a guide on how to do this in the stickies so I wont bore you with the details:

Car assumes the position:

First we removed the passenger SMIC. Tam (s3 baby) was glad to see it go:

Next up was to remove the crash bar to cut it and drill it to fit s3dave's brackets that he knocked up for me:

We measured up where we would have to cut and drill then I set to work:

We then fitted the hanging brackets to the core:

On with the crash bar to make sure it all fits well:

Next up was to hack as much plastic away from the core and hoses as possible. Started with this extremely itchy fibre glass stuff around the rad/AC unit:

Then as you might be able to see here is the pipe clashes with the inside of the bumper:

I hacked as much as possible off the fog light bracket:

Then hacked all around the fog surround:

It was then a case of trimming the pipework and offering up the bumper about a thousand times until we were happy. This was the finished pipework on the passenger side:

And this is how I left my 1 eyed beast (not that 1 eyed beast ;) ) as we ran out of time to do the drivers side pipework:

Why it's the IC so down??? I was thinking of putting mine attached to the bar without that spacer...
 
More than likely to allow the maximum amount of air to get to the cooler.
 
Continuing on from last nights work we got the rest fitted and back together tonight:

Struggled with the drivers side due to the SMIC coming out at such a tight angle:

While the bumper was off I fitted the LCR splitter with 10 M4 bolts. My bumper is in desperate need of a respray!:

Bumper back on, all finished. The only issue is now I cant fit the fog grills back in which is very annoying as the whole point of this build was to keep the OE look! I'll have to think of something. Oh and as asked earlier, the core is set low so that it fills the whole of the centre grill and gets maximum air across it:

I didn't get time to take her for a blast and do some logging, so that's a task for tomorrow. I really hope nothing pops off as removing the bumper and putting it back on is becoming boring now!

You may be right Dave. I managed to even get the 2 screws under ther the bumper back in! My only worry with pushing out the lower bumper is I could end up with gaps where the top of the bumper sits around the head light.
 
Nah you dont mate, as you will have seen the bumber is like jelly in your hands and flops everwhere so it will be compliant....
You need to sand the covers down alot too

I did think about removing some of the back of the grill covers but didn't want to mess them up and make them look sh!te. I'll have a go tonight as long as my testing goes to plan and I dont have to take off the bumper again.
