What colour S3 Avus for the Track?

I did a night course and got qualified as a mechanic out of boredom (and having experience prior), but am a web designer now :) Done my fair share of rebuilds though!
 
Just wondering where you got your 4 wheel alignment done mate, and what sort of price they charged you?
 
Ok here's the core and the hose setup:

I'm slightly annoyed because the ins and outs aren't 63mm as stated in the listing, they are infact 57mm so I have had to order 2 63mm to 57mm reducers. I also seem to have an extra alloy 90 degree bend but it might come in handy when i do the install. I just hope everything fits now!
 
That's a bit **** about the inlet and outlet ports, that's one of the reasons I was watching it in ebay. Did you put the question to the seller?

Looks good though, hopefully it should sit nicely beneath the crash bar and in full view of cool air :)
 
Basically the same core as I'm using on the track car dude, and a fair bit smaller than most guys are running on KO4 setups.

I will question the seller and tell him to change the listing description. It should fill the lower grill nicely so that the whole core gets air.

Yeah I knew it would be smaller than most but alongside the drivers smic it should be fine for what I want it for which is the occasional blast and track day.

Surely anything hidden behind the bumper is surplus to requirements? This bad boy looks like it'll all get air, and in combination with the first SMIC I reckon it'll be a huge improvement, for not a lot of cash/effort. Prove me right Westy!!

My thinking exactly Dave. I'm also hoping that with the passenger smic out the way I can get some more air into the standard airbox to aid the b5 TIP.
 
I already have 3 inch ducting from the passenger side scoop to airbox with the side mount coolers still. Work that out :p
I may still go for this, with driver side cooler....but then, its lighter without, hmmmm
 
True but even without both SMIC's, the S3 is still a fat b@stard! This is about cooling not dieting...

Ye how did you do that. I had my bumper off the other day to try and feed my 3" feed to my filter, wasnt happening lol.

The cooler looks small but the hole surface area of the coller will get air flowing to it, so the hot part of the cooler (top part) will get air flowing to it so should be pretty good in theory. Im really interested to see what gains it yields.
 
Bore original duct hole out under the bonnet that goes to the wing, take arch lining off, attack inner arch with a dremel/grinder (youl know where when you open it), cut a hole in intercooler scoop, put ducting into place, mock arch lining up to make sure it closes, if not, more grinding, the arch lining back in,and its done :)
 
And through a few tie wraps in for good measure eh karl? :) haha.
 
Small but 100% efficient.......not half of it wrapped in a bumper blanket, partially blocking the aircon condenser and coolant radiator....

This is why I kind of dont see the point in having a massive cooler because you could say the most important part of a air to air cooler is to get maximum amount of air flowing over the whole of the cooler.

As hot air rises, you want the top part of a cooler to get a good amount of air flowing over it which the taller cooler just dont get but because of the bigger cooler your able to pass a greater volume of air.

I was thinking about doing that but thought what is if it came lose and wrapped around my brake etc.

I thought you drilled 2 holes in the crash bar and mounted it below? That's what I was thinking of doing. My cooler is only 63mm thick so I should have a lot of room to play with to ensure the hoses clear the fogs and bumper.
 
Mine fits with zero modification to the fogs etc. with bigger outlet/inlets so you should be fine dude.

Ah ok, it's difficult to see on your front on pics.

I'll have to rethink this then as I want to do it next week and I want to get it right first time. Did you weld the brackets to the crash bar or screw them?
 
I just bolted them you have to drill the top of the crash bar and go right through and drill the bottom so you can get nuts/washers on fairly long around 75mm iirc.
You may be ok drilling through and mounting it under like you said, take your cooler with you so you get the correct thread

Cheers Dave. I'll take the cooler for a little walk tomorrow morning. Got to pop to quick fit to get the tyres off my S3 wheels so I can start refurbing them too.

I'm basically not going to know the best way to fit this thing until I've had the bumper off and mocked it up. Unfortunately i'm running out of time befor I visit Bills and my weekends are taken up seeing the bird so I need the car :sob:
 
Stop press.....your idea will not work...just had a look at mine it has to be offset behind the crash bar or the bumper wont go back on, as the curve goes quite sharp on the bumper
