Anyone know the standard call out rate for the RAC/AA? As a non member with no breakdown cover can I sign up tonight and call them tomorrow lol?

Does it matter that my car has developed a fault today and that I would need to use them immediately?

Its a tad unethical to do that, joining and then reporting a problem, not something that us trusting and honest people on this forum would recommend.
And if you are parked at home you will need homestart cover, which is more money.

Is this an actual question or a theoretical question?

Assuming the latter..... if it's such a simple issue they can fix it at the roadside then it's going to be a cheap easy fix anyway, if not then the best you'll get is a free tow to a gargae isn't it?

I think my rear piston has seized, as a result it feels like the brakes are jammed on and the car is very difficult to move under its own power. It's just outside the town center about 6 or so miles from my house. I have no break down cover. Just wondering what are my options as I have no cover, only one member of my family does but is not in the country lol.

if you have an advanced bank account it might come with break down cover or your insurance.
My bank gave me free break down cover cause I up graded my bank account.

Find a local mobile mech to come take a look or phone a local garage to pick it up and take a look?

In all fairness mate, ethics are the least of my concerns right now. I'm sure your all angle's on here tho!.

Got a mate who is in the AA or RAC? They just need to report it under thier name as they were driving it when the fault happened, they cover the card holder not the car.

To be quite honest, if all you've got is a seized caliper then you've got two options:

  • Google it, borrow a jack and a few tools (I'm assuming you don't have these from this question!) and learn some basic maintenance. Then sit back at then end of it with a beer and feel very satisfied, or:
  • Look in Yellow Pages for a mobile mechanic, or limp to the nearest garage and cough up the £50 to fix it!

I hoped someone would, as it would have saved a lot of time and hastle but nobody I knew had any. Ended up buying Green Flag cover, will see if I can sort something out in the next few days otherwise I'll bell them on the weekend.
