Hi Guys,

New to the scene... Was wondering if anyone could set me straight once and for all... Will the s-line grill on a b7 fit a non- s-line bumper on a b7? I've got a b7 cabrio s-line on a 56 plate but although it's an s-line, it has the standard bumper and grill :-(.. (before the s-line exterior pack became standard kit...) The current grill came with s-line badge etc but is the standard grill you would find on the b7 se (4 door) or b7 sport (cabrio)... If I was to get an s-line grill from ebay, would it fit on my non s-line bumper as I am having conflicting feedback at the moment. Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers,

Del

The definitive answer is no, unfortunately it will not fit.

The S-Line grille is a couple of inches deeper (vertically) than the standard grille, therefore the bumper requires a larger aperture. Only the S-Line, DTM, S4 and RS4 bumpers have the larger aperture.

If you want to fit the larger S-Line grille, you'll need to change bumper too. You could fit the S-Line, DTM or S4 bumpers to your car (but not the RS4 bumper due to alignment with the arches).

To clarify:

1) The standard bumper will accept:
(i) The standard grille.

2) S-Line bumper will accept:
(i) The S-Line grille.
(ii) The DTM grille.
(iii) The S4 grille.
(iv) The RS4 grille.

2) DTM bumper will accept:
(i) The S-Line grille.
(ii) The DTM grille.
(iii) The S4 grille.
(iv) The RS4 grille.

2) S4 bumper will accept:
(i) The S-Line grille.
(ii) The DTM grille.
(iii) The S4 grille.
(iv) The RS4 grille.

2) RS4 bumper will accept:
(i) The S-Line grille.
(ii) The DTM grille.
(iii) The S4 grille.
(iv) The RS4 grille.
...but the RS4 bumper will only fit the RS4 (due to wider front wheelarches)

Few errors there Yellow mate lol, the DTM, and hence it's grill, is actually of the same size as a standard bumper as it is based on an SE platform rather than an S-Line, so in fact the standard bumper will accept both the standard grille and the DTM grill (Which I believe is the same as a standard one anyway) and vice versa, the DTM grille will not fit in an S-Line, S4 or RS4 bumper.

On a more positive note, I have seen standard bumpers modded to accept the larger grilles, by cutting the portion of bumper out from below the grille to allow it to fit, weather this is an option you are willing to go with though, is up to you.

as sam says the dtm is an se grill

So one error then...

I stand corrected, the DTM grille is in fact the small one. I always thought they didn't look quite right at the front! Easy mistake, as I've never actually seen a DTM in the flesh over here!

However, the fact remains that the S-Line grille will not fit the standard bumper.

Without modification...

And yes, one error carried through a few times ;)

Slight confusion! I have an S-line cabriolet.. so obviously have an s-line grill fitted which I would like to retain.. Two questions.. will the dtm front bumper physically fit the cabrio?? (All A4 bumpers fit saloon, cabrio and avant) and secondly will the s-line grill fit/slot in to the DTM front bumper. Cheers!

just think of the DTM as SE bumper wise
no the s-line grill will NOT FIT THE DTM OR SE GRILL

I understand the 'S-Line grill' only came as an option on the cabriolet, even on the S-Line model.....so you do need to careful. The definitive check is that the S-line bumper has 'clip out' fog light grills that slope downwards on the outer edge and are black. Standard SE bumpers have colour coded fog surrounds.

The S-Line grill will not fit into the DTM bumper without heavy modification.

It's the one thing i really dislike about my s-line cab , the front just looks boring iv'e added a cupra lip which has improved things.

what i really want is a s-line bumper with rs4 grill and inserts .

rich the mod to get the rs4 grill in the dtm was very easy and looks oem

dealers TPS or look on the bay

I think the standard headlights really soften the front too. I have the S-Line bumper/grille on my A4 cab, but I also have the OEM Xenons. You may want to consider fitting those (although it is a big job), or seeing if there are any aftermarket projector-style headlights, as I really think they sharpen up the nose.

Ok so i'm a bit new to this , I too have the S-line cab on an 06 plate 3.2FSI .. do i not have the s-line bumper? It's exactly the same as the one in your pic except it's got parking sensors in it.

I feel robbed & cheated ! Took ages to find a nice spec'd sline cab. .only to read on here that i got an SE bodykit! :wtf:

I take it a S4 bumper / grille is a 20 minute off and on job ( if i can find one... with PDC's)

well its a bit more that 20 mins but its a very easy job to swap them
also dont worry is new bumper has PCD as all the bumpers have the markings on the inside for them
good look finding a S4 bumper tho

Hi Bez, have you fitted an RS4 front grill to a DTM bumper ? I take it as this would be the same as fitting a S Line grill to a SE Front bumper ?

Rich: Have you got a picture of the SE Bumper with the Cupra splitter ?

Thanks guys ? (Im stuck with a SE front bumper and grill on a sport and really need to do something about it ! )

yes i fitted the rs4 to the dtm
and it looked very good as tho it should be there

Guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the responses - a little late I know! Pu that project on the back burner but one I want to hopefully do in the summer! Will come back to you with an update!

Have you got any pics with the splitter intalled? Did you spray yours? I thought spraying mine as the cab's dark green would make it look more like an extension of the original bumper...

I've got a splitter in a garage waiting to go on (SE bumper :motz:) but am debating buying an s-line bumper first and fitting it to that... cost of bumper + grills + fog lights is a lot though...

Not the greatest picture, didn't paint it as my car is so dark, still no happy with the front end but I will get round to a new bumper and grill one day.

Looks good... as much as I'd love the S-line bumper... for the £300 plus the effort of fitting it I just don't think it's worth it, atleast at the moment.

If I ever bite the bullett and get HID headlights & require washers, now that will be the time for a bumper upgrade! (Also mine has a split in 'bar' in the middle of the fog light moulding....)

I don't know if anyone will know this, but as the Cupra-R splitter needs to be trimmed to fit, if I trim it to fit an SE bumper, then in a year or so get an S-Line bumper, will the splitter be too shallow to fit nicely onto an S-Line bumper?
