Man United vs Barcelona - CL final

from my avatar you'd probably foresee some Manure abuse - yes, i do hate them, but i watched the final as a Barca fan PLUS i thought it would be a good CL game. But to be quite honest it was like watching chelsea against Wolves. I mean, Utd has done alot to be where they are this season but to be outplayed like this is an embarrassment, they did not even try to get a goal back, or win the ball back for that reason.

They were happy to sit back, soak the pressure, possibly drool over Barca, concede 3 goals and go home.

Fergie didnt even name their top scorer as a sub, he should've started//and Owen was a top player 4-6 years ago, why a pay and go player was on the bench i dont know! and secondly, their player of the season if am not mistaken, or am sure he was nominated as one of contenders; nani did not even start? instead JS Park who's hardly played this season got more game time?

I could on about Chicharito's inexperience, and 2 howlers by Van Der Sar, or indeed the offside goal pig face pulled back but I think you all get the point.

All my UTD' supporting mates were like "oh we accept defeat, they were a better team" - i mean **** yes, they were a whole decade faster than your sorry as team, in my opinion Utd didnt even play to half of their strength, they were scared, confused, bemused and just ****e! I think its the end of Manure, City have the dough, Roman is looking to buy big, Wenger has finally decided to spend and Liverpool too will spend and re-build!

The thing is... while fergie is there Man U will never be any less than a top 3 (maybe even top 2) team. But once him and his big red hooter vacate Old Trafford you could be right, Man U could be in trouble.

Back to the CL final... I think there is only one English team who would've stood a chance against Barca at the moment. Liverpool.
They ain't the best in England, not even one of the top 3 or 4 (for now), but they are they only ones with big enough balls to pull out a performance against a superior team.
Man U have no experience of being underdogs and don't know how to handle it, Chelsea are spineless, for years Arsenal don't know how to dig deep and win when it really matters, and City need time before they can be taken seriously.

Liverpool and Utd are the established and proven English Elite! Chelsea are like an older version of Man City so if thats the pace city will follow then i agree with you! i personally think UTD were lucky in the quarters and semis as they did not have a bigger task as compared to spurs - easy games dont help i suppose and they were just never ready for barca. I think if they had faced and beaten Madrid in the semi they probably wouldve beaten Barca, or atleast took the game to them but its the tradition they always "get lucky"

Slightly off topic, but how crap are arsenal? i really do think they waste the 3rd/4th spot, others could do better! they are almost annoying to watch over the course of the season.

Im hoping next season will be interesting domestically and season after may see the big boys of europe (LFC) cause a bit of concern but i realistically think it'll take time to be a force again

Do you reckon we could get Benitez back part-time to take care of the European games (WHEN we get there)? :lmfao:

Like him or hate him, he had Europe pretty sussed. Scalps include BARCA, annihilating Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal, Inter, Juventus.

Anyway, Man U.... :lmfao:

I've heard there's going to be a new "19 Times" banner unveiled at Old Trafford next season to commemorate the number of times Man Ure touched the ball at Wembly.

Also,

Stacey Giggs would like to know if anyone can vouch for the whereabouts of her husband between the hours of 19:45 and 21:40 on Saturday night?

Dreaming of the good old Liverpool days hey!! Shame they have dissapeared now, ive seen some really exciting Europa league performances from them this season!!!

I haven't.

I quite enjoyed it when Suarez twisted up the entire Man U defence though.

I enjoyed Spurs beating you at Anfield more! so at least we get some european footy next year, although wont compare to winning at the San Siro. The Europa League doesnt quite cut it.

I enjoyed Spurs beating you at Anfield more!

Is that because they hadn't managed to do it since the early 90's?

Just wondering, how do you feel about the fact Spurs will probably never qualify for the champions league again?

Its been nice breaking a few ducks like that over the last couple of seasons, we had similair records against Chelsea anywhere, and Arsenal away until recent times. But we have proven we can compete these days.

As long as we keep our squad and add 1 or 2 we can hang on in there i think, but i am scared of what City will spend to push them on even further, and i do honestly think Liverpool will spend well and be stronger.

And if Carroll keeps fit and Suarez continues as he is, could be the most potent strike force in the league! Certainly better than ****** Crouch...hate him.

But will Arsenal do much? Probably not as Wegner does love his kids a little too much!!!

I think Arsenal will always be up there, taking a CL place. They are too good at beating "smaller" teams in early through to mid/late season. Which is why lately they are always in a good place to challenge for the title, even though they eventually mess up.

I think Spurs' only hope of getting top four again is if Man City don't do as well as their money should have them do (which I can actually see happening), or if Liverpool don't build well in the summer.

The big problem for Spurs now is, they don't have champions league football to attract "big" players, and might not be able keep all of their good players (Bale, Modric).
And unfortunately they don't have a famous name either (like Liverpool) which allows them to still draw in big players.

We'll see. Will be an interesting season though.

It will be another good season, this one was great, even the fight for relegation going to the wire.Lower teams taking points off of the top teams. Arsenals usual end of season collapse and Chelsea going on an amazing loosing streak, what more could we want.

And i hope the new rules that eventually come into effect trying to curb money spent and risking losing a champions league place, will actually make a difference and stop the likes of City/Chelsea blowing loads of cash, probably even do Chelsea a favour so they dont have to waste £50mil here and there!!

And i do think Bale will stay, and certainly hope Modric does. And fingers crossed someone buys Crouch!

Rafa became the king of Europe on one night in May 2005 in Istanbul ahhhhhhh!!

Haha due you getting happy you beat us to finish 5th? Come next season, you all would so frightened to come to Anfield - just like the old times. Suarez Carroll etc are just there to be part of a dream, but the real is the King Kenny

About spurs, they are about to lose Modric, Bale and possibly Defoe too. Gareth Bale burns out too quick but i fear he may leave too if City come up with the price, which they are more than capable of doing (****** arabs)

Messi vs Manchester United was a good match. Thought it was gonna be close at 1-1 but when it went 2-1 the whole united team just gave up lol

Even park gave up and he NEVER stops running normally.

Barca pwn3d the world once again. Will see what happens next year. Still think the PL's top teams are all in some sort of transition period. At least i know my club are (chelsea). United seem to be in the same way i feel. Arsenal are permanently and as for city they are still gelling and finding new talent and tottenham .. well i dunno i think theyll be borderline for a while as they wont be able to sign any premium talent only 2nd, 3rd choice talent

PMSL... All this United hating!!

United lost as they didnt stick to what they had done the whole season in europe, Fergie tried to be clever and outwit Pep!

It worked for 20minutes... then Alves was told to get forward to nullify Parks close attention of Messi.

Everyone keeps w@nking on about Messi this and Messi that! He wasnt the best player on the night! There was one player that ran the game with his passing and vision.... Xavi! Having seen alot of football this year both live and on tv, i can honestly say theres only one way to stop Barca! Do a Hercules on them! Take out Messi and take out Xavi and then you've got a chance of stopping them!
Why Fergie didnt play on the counter against Barca i'm not sure, they have the pace and ability and are probably the best team in europe at counter attack football.

As for next season Liverpool will certainly be top 4 in place of Arsenal, Chelsea won't be pushing too hard as they will be in transition new manager and all. Citeh if they get it right will push hard, but it depends how sensible they are in acquiring new signings! If they go out and purchase big name signings in key areas then by the time they have adjusted they could be off the pace.. However if they sign sensibly then they'll be the biggest threat.
United won the league by a big margin and reached a final and semi with the 'worst ever team'.. Hell if any of the other top 5 teams had done that then they'd be harping on about being great. United have a difficult summer in replacing the best english midfielder this decade! They've kept with current trend and signed a young promising keeper! Big ask and personally would have gone for Neuer, Reina or Lloris.
They needed 4 new signings, so 3 now with De Gea.
I'd go for one of the following Essien (big ask but an immense presence), Lassana Diarra or Schweinsteiger, the latter did a number on Messi at the last world cup and has been key to Bayerns second half of the season come back.

Creativity in the middle of the park is now going to be of major importance and this will be the most difficult position to fill! Ozil or Aguero for me but both highly unlikely given price and availability. I can think of a few names that would be in fitting with the current trend but is this a position that you fill with promise rather than proven.
If they again look for promise then Shinji Kagawa or Mario Gotze would be superb signings, however i just feel that Modric will be the target and wont need as long to adjust to the premiership. Or maybe start to field Rooney in the central midfield role that his passing range and creativity would suit.

Then even with Wellbeck coming back a centre forward in the Drogba role.. a big bullying predator who can hold up play and link with a strike partner! Only one front man i seen in europe potentially able and available.. Lucas Barrios, at 6ft 2 and having the nickname 'the panther' i think he would be a great signing for a relatively small sum..

I honestly belive UTD were lucky this season. If chelsea and arsenal hadnt messed up like they always do, united didnt have a chance. Saying this, if kenny dalglish had took charge start of the last season, liverpool would be right up there coz they lost minimum points against the top 3 with a ahem famous victory over the scum utd!

but then you could say all that about any season if's and but's are there. but utd were given a wake up call by barca, and what a call it was!

i agree about messi having a quiet night coz the show was stolen by Xavi, Inesta (and busquets at times) who made scholes/carrick/giggs etc dance like two dolla strippers lol

utd will be nothing next season, most talent will goto city or madrid may be chelsea as they look to spend

Football - jees!

I barely watch it and I even I know United don't need to buy their way to victory unlike everyone else. They lost one big game, so what?! Every club loses games and end of the day they lost it to a team who are on the whole a better club on the night as regards to players but United don't go out paying to win. Just think where a lot of Uniteds players come from... Youth squad and academy!

Fergie got something wrong but end of the day he won the league with a clear advantage but do you not think that maybe 19 League titles is enough to say that it's an achievement in it's own right? Liverpool have won more European cups then United but end of the day you think about the time difference these cups have been won over and then compare that to the number of league titles United have won in the past 20years alone and a lot of these players in that time have been there for a good 10years at least - not many, if any, other clubs will ever match that. Oh and not forgetting to mention a manager who has been with the same squad for more than 20years! Most other clubs see players and managers come and go every season and within a few years they are a completely different set of individuals.

Plus if it hadn't have been for those ****ing Americans they would also be the richest club in the world as they stood before hand. Not needing some over hyped oil company owner to bail them out every week. Chelsea paid to win the league. Yeah, so you'll say United bought Rooney and Ronaldo. They don't need Rooney to win and neither did we need Ronaldo as last season prooved and end of the day you can slag any player off for having a bad game but yet opinions change when they have a good game - always happens! Money doesn't buy you a victory it buys you a big head and a ***** attitude. Real Madrid didnt seem to win much when they bought Beckham and then Ronaldo.

I use to enjoy watching the football but now all it is, is money money money bull****. Thank god for Rugby League; such a better game, oh yeah and no glory supporters from far end of the country! Just my opinion at the end of the day - argue it if you wish.

Sorry i'm a united supporter and being a realist United used Edwards money did they not!? Then flooded the asian market to bring in more money. So they didnt buy players to constantly evolve!? Paul Ince £1mil, Roy Keane £3.75mil (a then british record), Mark Hughes 2nd time £1.8mil (british record again) Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Juan Veron, Ruud and Rio! I could go on... Every top team has to buy key players to evolve, hence the fact these become risks. United have tried recently to buck the trend in buying established world class players and going for potential as thats where the value is!? It either works or it doesnt.. De Gea being the latest signing, but look at Nani & Anderson both signed with a view to replacing giggs, now these were 4 years ago! Only now is he fulfilling his potential.

All the best teams seek to evolve to remain competitive both domestically and in europe. Whilst Madrid, Chelsea and now Citeh have tried the instant fix and buy the best its not worked yet with regards to consistancy..

I do agree with you though football should go down the same route as rugby league and have a wage ceiling but not based around the clubs income! This will only serve to make the best teams stronger and the smaller teams weaker..

I am amused how the scousers now have KD in charge they suddenly become the team of old... nowt to do with the fact you signed the best 'coach' in the country then!? Whilst they might beat the top 4 teams they gotta beat the rest of the ****e and that they cant do... yet. Perhaps a new defence, flog Gerrard and sign a winger and another midfielder and you'll be almost there.

I would say in the next 2 seasons its all going to be about transition of the big teams and getting crap out and the older players out or less playing time.

I agree with hardly any of this ^^^^^

....and pretty much all of this.

United had no competition whatsoever this season, probable had the worst away form according to their high standards and only just scraped through? united teams that have gone by would have ran the show. But this is the worst united team, i do rate them for consistency, but thats soley down to (hate to say it) fergie!

same with liverpool, Roy moaned of inheriting a bad squad (with torres and gerrard) - kenny played without the two, but had Suarez, however it was the "poor" "surplus" players that shone i.e. flanagan, maxi, meireles, spearing, shelvey he even played jack robinson whos never played in PL! Take kuyt for example, he was misused by roy and rafa both, he scored alot of goals too - thats the difference that so called "KD" has made, and yes we beat top4, thats all it takes, consistency will be back now too so smaller teams will be taken care off! not to forget, liverpool has had a board, backroom, and coaching staff change - consistency is tough to achieve in these circumstances but despite this in the last 6 months liverpool took second most points after chelsea, isnt that consistency since Kenny Dalgalish took over? it very well is :)
