Are 18''x9'' Alloy Wheels To Wide For The Front On AN S3 8L?

Will I Get Any Rubbing, Or Will I Have To Do Any Grinding / Modifications To Prevent Rubbing?
 
caliber vintage 18'' just about to order some, not sure weather to get the 8'' wide or push the 9'' in???
 
From memory i think 9" is fine on the rear but 9" at the front will catch the dampeners, i think maximum recommened is 8.5" but dont quote me.

Thanks, thats what i thought, mite see if i can just get 9'' rear and 8'' front!
 
erm, how can you gauge whether they will fit without stating the offset??
 
8.5" requires ET30, so 9" will require ET25 minimum! They will fit, not too sure about clearance though, but with the right rubber, it should be fine.
 
I thought you could get away with ET35 on 8.5" wheels on an S3?....
 
9j will fit as i have 9j bbs ch wheels on mine the clearence is very very very close i can just get a card between the wheel and the shock but had them on for just over 6 months and not rubbed once even on full lock or going over bumps so 9j will be fine
 
think mine are an et30 18x9j 5x100 with no spacers

Once you lower it, it will catch your inner arches(engine side) when you steer into a corner and hit a bump mid corner. I was running 19x8 rims with 235 tyres ET35, and I have marks where you can see it catching, but a 5mm spacer sorted it.
 
So will 18x8.5" ET35 fit with a 10mm spacer?

Not that I'm looking at buying some..........

235 tyres on 8j im only running 225 on 9j yeh it will get spaced out a lil when lowered along with the rears 5mm front 15mm rears when you put the 5mm spacers on you use the same bolts and have enough thread left or change them for longer threads?

Really depends on the alloy, I managed 5 mm and 10mm with the normal bolts, as my porsche reps are really deep where the bolt sits, so there was enough thread to bolt them on. On my 18" BBS ET32 rims though, I needed extended bolts for 10mm/15mm F/R setup, and you need extended locking nuts also to keep the wheel balance!

The longer wheel bolts a slightly heavier, so ideally, you will need longer locking wheel bolts to balance the weight. The weight difference is probably minimal, but every little helps. lol
 
Thanks for the help everyone, went to the store today, and I can get 8'' front and 9'' rears so I am going to play it save and go for the staggered look!

Now, back to my previous question ;)

18 x 8.5" wide ET35... Will these require spacers?

just for the record i'm running 19x9.5" on the front with 225/35 tyre, slammed on coilovers with no rubbing problems at all.. No offset value marked on the rims unfortunately but I estimate around ET20-25..

Are the dishes on the front wheels the same as the ones on the back?! Nice wheels by the way!! :cool:
 
hi jojo, thanks for your compliment .. they are 10.5" on the back so a bit deeper dish than the fronts :)
 
et 30 on 8.5 19 wheel with 215 35 tyre i can only lower it 40mm as it is mm's away from the rim! :(
 
i'm not at a stage with the car where i am happy to 'show' it off so you probably wont see me there this year !! :)

Going to take these wheels off in the next week or two to get them machine polished .. Replacing them temporarily with a black set of staggered 19" aston martin v8 vantage wheels which should look good ;-)
 
Audi-tk .. have you got an S3 ? Theres a bit more room in the arches than the A3 as they are flared

On the front of mine there is only maybe 3mm gap but its enough to not cause any problems. I did have some 5mm spacers on the front which gave ample clearance but i took them off as it pushed the tyre to close to the arch and i wanted the front and rear wheel wells to look equally filled..
 
sorry mate measnt to write mm's away from the adjuster. if i lowered it some more then wheel wouldnt go on! mines an a3 and it fits just nicely! imagine an s3 u would be able to squeeeze mayeb 10mm more :p
