Car just failed mot on emissions and been told I need a new cat. Garage quote is a bit high so I thought I'd shop around. Found one at catman.co.uk and got quoted £115 which I thought not bad but I'm unsure of the quality coz I know there is some dodgy gear out there.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a reasonably priced cat that is a good fit????
Thanks
Si.

i had an OEM cat and could shift it! not even a 99p starter on fleabay
get one from a scrappy for pennies I would imagine

Wouldnt put anything other then genuine cat wise on. Seen too many cars that come through the workshop with motorfactor cats on failing emissions, generally running rubbish and usually have to replace with the genuine one so you`ve paid out twice in the end.

I put a cheapo cat on my old FWD and it was fine for what i paid. Think it cost about 70quid. Passed two MOT's when i had the car although the second one the guy did have to rev the engine for quite a while to get the cat hot enough to pass. This may have been the cat already on its last legs, or it may have been due to the oil contamination from leaky turbo seals and a 200k engine.

For the money its probably not bad, as i wouldnt imagine an Audi genuine cat will leave you much change from 500quid.

Aye, its quite hard to justify that sort of money, when a £70 part will do the job and likely last 2 or 3 years.

Doubt it, the metals in catalytic converters are very expensive - most scrappys pay 50-70 quid for a 2nd hand cat when weighed in iirc

Personally if it was me i'd go second hand probably

My old CAT snapped so got a new one, £130 fitted with a 2 year guarentee.

It's been fine so far, went through MOT no problem in November.

I`ve got a standard cat at home. Might go chop it in for some cash lol

Do it jay, think of all the ghetto mods you could do with that cash :p or flog it to this guy :p

Not keeping it incase of any mot probs though?

P.s. saves me bugging you later, you got any stubby large (as in 20"/22") spanners? Need to tighten the oil cooler takeoffs on the skybus up properly as i'm paranoid they're going to leak when I start the car... wish I'd done it before refitting the inlet :(

Lol indeed. Although probably less ghetto for the next few mods.

Nah they`ll probably pass it at work or i`ve got 2 mates in MK that will pass it like they did the Civic.

Nah not got any normal spanners that big let alone stubbys. Is why i had to use mole grips to get the lambda sensor out of cat when doing decat lol.

Thanks for the replies lads. I think I'd like a new cat as a second hand one might not last too long anyway. I was more wondering if any of you had any advice regarding somewhere to get it from, any makes/companies to avoid etc.
How much is a genuine one anyway??
