Steering wheel options and questions

I'm thinking about getting a new wheel as my next mod. I have a 2006 S line with a non multifunction wheel and feel that the wheel is too skinny and just doesn't feel nice.

I know that everyones first shout would be the FBMFSW but I don't actually like the flat bottoms or the price tag (shock horror, probably the only person). What other options are there? Were later S line wheels chunkier or did some of the bigger cars have chunkier wheels? I'm not that bothered about getting MF buttons as had them on my last car and rarely used them. I did try researching what was needed for MF and got totally lost (car currently has no MF but does have cruise and DSG). I'm assuming I could fit a MF wheel and not bother having the buttons working, I'm only thinking this because nearly all wheels I've seen for sale have buttons.

Sorry for so many questions. Just a bit confused and lost at the moment.

An RS6 wheel went on german ebay for £246 last night, I cried :Flush:

Maybe go to your local audi garage and have a look at a few steering wheels.

When you have decided which one you want buy the wheel off ebay around £100-150 then you need a wiring loom and then you will need it coding.

To have this working though you will need a highline steering wheel module which you can just look at the part number on the module itself when you remove the lower cowling to double check. Cant remember all the highline modules but the only one i know is the one that ends in 'F'.

If you dont have one then you can sell yours as it will be a midline for around £40 and you can buy a highline from TPS at around £110.

Many people dont really know about the steering modules on ebay though so you could just find one second hand or a car breaking. I paid £40

Problem you have is the only wheels that are any thicker really are the fbmfsw for ttrs & the rs6.

Is it really the thickness or just a tired old wheel that needs replacing for new, I go between the 2 & although its nicer to have the rs6 wheel in one car using the normal when I stuck a better wheel in didnt bother me in the slightest if I'm honest.

As for getting it all working, PM me as sure can sort that for you as also noticed you were after an rns-e.

I'll be going to the Audi garage next week to get an RNS coded hopefully so I'll have a sneaky grope of some of the wheels then. Seems obvious but I never even thought about doing that.

I checked the Ross Wiki thing from another thread for highline module part numbers but haven't bothered checking what's in mine. I would guess Midline. I'm really not that fussed about MF buttons working, I will hardly ever use them. I just want something chunkier.

Very good point tbh, prices at audi have gone through the roof, even an S3 grill now is over £300, ridiculous, guess they're capitalising on the modding scene lol

I just bought one of these.

Just under a week for delivery, well packed and spanking new!

Fitted no probs.

The thing is if you remove your airbag then the resale value for your old wheel drops allot, hence why I would buy a complete wheel where I can, airbags have more value than the counterpart.

Anyway anyone looking for a complete wheel give me a shout as I have a brand new one complete.

But surely if you buy a complete wheel with airbag for £450 then get £350 for your wheel with airbag it works out the same as buying a wheel only at £180, keeping your own airbag and selling your old wheel for £80. Either way it's cost you £100.

Have I made a stupid error?

I was advised that using ones own airbag is a safer option as air bags are set up (in the factory) according to the car model/engine.

Not saying it's the gospel, just what I read.

Buying it from you it would make sense, but I wouldn't trust an airbag I bought off ebay. No chance.

NO I see no error mate, that POV should be common sense already tbh fella, without being funny, but of course also obviously that would all depend on how much you buy & sell the wheels for at the end of the day.

Pub talk trust me, of course you use airbags fit your car brand/chassis which may or may not be interchangeable with other chassis which is common for audi.
