Does anyone know what the differences are between the 150 and 180bhp engines?

From doing a little trawling round the interweb I've tried to gather as much info as I can on the AJL 180 bhp engine in my car. There is a lot of contradictory stuff out there and I just wondered if anyone really knows what all the differences are that Audi implemented to take the early Quattro Sport from 150bhp to the later 180bhp.

From what I can gather, the turbos are the same, and the engines are for all intents and purposes are identical, so is it purely ECU/ mapping in which they differ? Or are there other minor ancillary differences such as intercooler size, boost levels etc.

Thanks!

there wasn't an early quattro sport over here. But to take the 150 BHP aeb engined fwd sport to the 180 BHP TQS is basicly in the mapping with more boost 6-8PSi to 12 PSI on the TQS. Turbo is the same, IM the same, exhausts almost the same ( routing) injectors are still the rubbish 283cc, still 4 bar FPR. The only other difference i can think of is TQS's have S4 fuel pumps, not sure what the capacity of the AEB one is.

the 150bhp aeb is fitted with the k03
whereas the 180bhp is fitted with a k03-s
ever so slightly bigger ,
not sure about injectors etc thou

Thought the ko3s was a myth the next bigger turbo comes on a b6 190 bhp which I think is a ko3 073

nope no K03s on an a4, tranvers engines only
Same size turbo on all 1.8ts in B5 shape, a few different numbers but still same size.

nope definetly exist i work at euros and have sold a couple to people with the 150bhp golf etc for a bit more power, although just red what you put about transverse etc which according to my turbo book what your sayin is correct :) sorry mate.

although yeah does bug the question you asking because ive always thought it was the bigger turbo myself??????

mines mapped already and i getting about 205bhp so there must be other differences , because im sure if you mapped the 180bhp you should get about 220???

Mine makes a smidge over 180 currently with a remap and a few other bits. A remapped TQS will see about 210 imho, anything much more is optimistic.

No a mapped 180 is flat out at about 195- 200 depending on rolling road descrepencys as they are already pushing the tiny turbo to get 180

im shocked how poor that is :S whats the realistic option to reach 280bhp with the 150bhp aeb?

Gt28, t3 or scroll or franken turbo but we struggle with mapping I'm the uk

Or u could make a cossie lump fit easy 400 bhp then and even 600+ if u have the money lol

Yeah for transverse 1.8t engines theres a k03s but for longtitude models there isnt. Next best thing as mentioned already is the turbo from a 190bhp B6 which maps to about 230bhp but thats it.

The K03s does have slightly bigger dimensions about it yeah but by a few mm. As on the transverse cars you can use the K03 silicon TIPS but you have to stretch them on

what do the b5 rs4 tune to and i think a cossie engine might cheaper to maintain think you can get 700 horses out of them too

The 2.7TT tunes to erm...lots!

However deep your pockets are...

The K03-073 on the B6 190 is the same size as the K03S on a transverse car. They both max out around 230-235hp

Cable throttle B5's have a K03-005 which is smaller than the K03 on a transverse car, and is flat out at around 190-200hp.
Electronic throttle B5's and most B6's have a K03-029 which is the same size as the k03 on a transverse car, again its flat out around 195-200hp.

A lot of people call the -029 a K03S, but its not.

As for a YB, they're not all they're made out to be TBH and they're hugely overpriced. For the money it'd cost you to buy and install a YB into an A4, and then extract 400hp from it, you'll easily have 400hp from the original motor.
