LOL, I could do with doing that anyway if I'm honest!

Ah well, prices will keep going up.

Boooooooooooooooooooo.

Not helped, in my case, by an egt sensor that seems to be able to work its way loose from my turbo.... RICH

Tis quiet today, anyone else bored?

I am but i'm also busy.

I've been looking at spreadsheets all morning but thats been for personal use, so thats ok.
Just need a 2000 A4 non-immob cluster to give it a try.

I should also hear about a randon A8 part I bought over the weekend. That should be turning up today along with the rest of my AC kit.

phoned HTC up again last night. They've had my phone for 6 weeks now, every time I talk to someone else its a different excuse of why its taking so long and now they just told me that they are waiting for parts now. so thats 6 weeks waiting for parts. Takes the pi$$ really.
They told me they will keep me updated and email me with a update today.
If no update then I'm writing a letter/email to try and get this crap sorted out.

Dane, whats happening with your sig?
it was B A D the other day, its not B A D G E.
I assume its going to say badger when the car is complete?

I've wanted to put badger 5 edition in my sig for aggges, so it's just a way of counting down the days until the car is finished. I'm putting a letter in a day until I get it back, so I reckon it'll probably get to 'Badger 5 ed' maybe a bit longer.

Hopefully they wont take to long.
Be really annoying if you got all the way to "badger 5 car of super doooper power, handeling and much much more. What else can I do to it?" sort of sig. :)

Hello all!

Seems to have been fairly quiet in here in general recently. I personally am making an effort at working hard as got a gentle ticking off for being lazy last week!!

So now everyone else probably hates me as im answering most of the phones!

I have a rare day off, and I have a few more things to get done on my cars, not sure what the weather is doing though, can't stand working out in the rain.

Does anyone know how to wind a Passat caliper piston back if it's come out too far? I have a caliper wind back tool, but it won't fit into the caliper, as the piston is out too far, and I'm unable to wind it with a pair of mole grips clamped onto the end, is the caliper ********? Hand brake works as normal, but the inner brake pad is worn all the way to metal! Both sliding pins on the caliper are not seized and move freely, which I'm impressed with after 180k miles!

HELP!

Mike, don't do it for to long, they'd expect it all the time and when you go back to being lazy again. :)

Jojo, long nose pliers on the end of the pistion, turn and push?
my understanding is it should just screw on.
you dont really want to use mole grips, they could rough up the pistion and split the seals (that reminds me I need to rebuild mine).
Get on youtube and look for a video by VWTDIgarage (or something like that) they got a really good video on them calipers and how they work.

The caliper wind back tool splits apart, I've tried just using the winding part to push and twist at the same time, no joy. So I clamped a set of mole grips on the end of the piston, which is all metal, but I can't hold the caliper still to get the leverage to twist, but it feels solid. Stupid handbrake still works though, which suggests it's not broke, as I can rotate the disks when the handbrake is released! I undid the brake fluid reservoir too.

Might need a trip to the local workshop to see what mate has to offer, but I'm enjoying the satisfaction of doing it all outside my house in the warm weather!

It shouldn't need that much handlebar to get it to wind back in dude, what make windback tool is it? I have a draper expert one and it fits into the rear caliper no problem.

As you know they need to twist back in, should be reasonably easy to be fair....

A lazer one, if I could wind the piston back 2mm, it would fit! lol, can't get it moving though...

Is the wind back handed ? or do they both wind back in the same way ?

What year is the passat ?

Its only a tempory measure while im waiting to change jobs. Im told if im a good boy it might make it happen quicker.

Also just to make you feel worse about your lack of phone, i have an update to run on my Desire, looks like it might be the new gingerbread update, shall see when im at home so can download via wifi.

Maybe when yours gets returned it might already be updated?

Same as what you should be downloading.
Let me know what you think of it.

Jojo, this is the vid I was thinking of it.

It might help

Some of may know that I sent my phone back to HTC to sort out the dust issue on the screen. 6 weeks later and many phone calls i'm still no closer to getting my phone back.
I'm getting very annoyed and attempted to write a letter but since i'm crap at letters I've decied to attempt to write down in some form of order what happened, how I feel and then pass it on to a lawyer mate to sort it out.

for a bit of entertainment I thought i'd show you lot.

teling me to wait, basicly.
Should get phone call back on the 12th to confirm my request for all
notes and information about my calls and the repair emails.

The long letter.

Dear sir

Below is a recollection of the lack of repair, accurate, true full and sometimes wildly different information I've been given by your customer service centre.

With in the last two weeks of march I noticed there was dust creeping in behind the screen on Desire HD. I phoned my service provider (T-Mobile) and informed them of apparent fault with the phone. The was willing to repair the phone but classed it as a chargeable repair cause dust under the screen is not classed as a fault with the phone (I did not buy a £300 phone and expect dust to enter the screen and impact on my viewing pleasure of the phone) and suggested I send it to yourselves.

I assumed this would be a safe and efficient repair process. So I contacted HTC customer services via your web site and we arrange the repair and collection of the phone. All very efficient and quick.

On April the 1st a carrier arrived and collected my phone just as I was informed. Off the phone went and I was happy in the knowledge that it was going to get take care of and fixed with in 10 working days (as per your web site and as I was informed).

After 2-3 weeks my first phone call was made. The customer service representative was informative and polite. They blamed the lack of repair on the change of repair centres and said it will be repaired as soon as possible. Ok, I'll wait another couple of days.

On about the 20th of April I phoned up HTC again and asked for a update on my phone, I'm little less calm now as this is getting a bit farcical.
This customer service representative informed me the phone was fixed and is under going testing and will be with me on the 25th of April. I asked again why this is taking so long and he again blamed the lack of repair on the change of repair centres. I explained that this should not effect me and should not be any of my concern. As a customer this process should be seamless and not effect the repair process if done correctly. He just blamed the process and promised me the phone will be with on Monday. With Monday being a bank holiday I thought I will give yourselves a bit more time. This is also the point where I escalated this matter to your escalations team who was going to give me a call back with in 5 days. They never did!!

Soon the Monday delivery date arrived and went. I phoned up AGAIN on the 27th and asked what happened to my promised delivery day of Monday and where was my phone call from the escalations team. My tone on the phone has changed from a relaxed gentleman to a very angry, disappointed and unsatisfied customer. I spoke to ANOTHER customer service gentleman on or around the 3rd or may with more questions, requestion more information and hopefully I will get better and more accurate information.
But sadly this was not the case.
He once again gave me different information, different excuses, reasons and past the blame on to another. When asked where my phone is he explained that my case has been escalated to a priority list and will be with me by next week. I asked the question why it has taken so long to sort this out, why it has taken them this long to look at the phone, why every one is telling me different information, why promises has been broken (delivery date, phone call) and why I still don't have my phone.
He was unable to answer any question directly, just going back to the change of repair centres, back log, lack of communication from the new repair centre and some computer issue with the repair centre.
On Tuesday the 4th I received a promising email. I have copied the content from this email and pasted it below.

“Dear Scott Newberry,

I have tried to call you today, and you were unavailable.

I was calling to advise, prior to our earlier conversation, that your phone is being chased as a matter of urgency.

I am happy to advise that our escalations team have been in contact with the repair center, and all our customers on the priority list should have their phone back to them by Tuesday next week at the latest, and will be repaired by Monday.

Thank you for your time and patience, I trust this will resolve your query.

Sincerely,

Tyler

HTC “

Great I thought, I will finally get this resolved and can get to enjoying the wonderfully product that is the HTC Desire HD.
Was I ever wrong!!
I arrived home from work on Tuesday the 10th of may to find no parcel and no card saying a parcel was attempted to be delivered. Since I am a patient man and I arrived home early (15:45), I thought I'll wait. Maybe my house is the last house on the delivery run. Little after 18:00 I phoned customer services again very very angry at being lied to again, another broken promise and ready for another phone call of lies and fake promises.
I asked the same questions I've asked about 3 times before and again I had different answers.
This time he blamed the lack of parts, saying parts that I need to fix my phone should have been delivered last week, they was held up by the bank holiday. WHY was this information not told to me on the 20th? Why was it promised to me for delivery on the 25th when they knew it needed parts at least a week before that? Why did the other 2 people I phoned up not tell me parts was needed?
Why was this information not past on? I asked this customer service person if I can talk to their supervisor or manager or any one above their pay grade who is able to give me a straight answer as to what is going on. He said there is no one in. I asked him, there is NO supervisors or managers in who? He said no, they are not in. Amazed that a service centre that is as large as your would have no supervisors or managers on the floor or with in walking distance to take my call and help resolve this on going issue.
Noticing that I am not getting any where with this representative, same as all the others, I asked him to keep me informed of any and all updates with my repair and I want a email update at 16:00 on the 11th of may. He assured me he will and that he added a reminder in to his calender to to chase up my repair and email me the update.
I arrived home at 16:30 to no email from HTC at all.
Once again I'm on the phone wanting an update. No sorry, I'm on the phone again wanting my phone back. I've had enough of the representatives giving me false information, false promises and each of them changing the story and reasons as to why my phone is not with me.
This representative confirmed the parts have arrived from your old repair centre.
He said the old repair centre sent all spare parts back to Taiwan and the new repair centre was requesting spare parts from Taiwan but they are now also sending parts direct from the old repair centre to somewhere else and then on to the new repair centre.
This is ridiculous way to run a repair centre, customer service centre and even worse and a even worse way to treat your customers.
I informed the representative that I was far from happy with the way I feel I am being treated and the way they are handling my repair and as a result I will be passing on my views and experience of your customer services and your repair services to BBC watchdog, Trading standards and Peter Chou.
Soon as I promised the above (I keep my promises) he was more than happy to go and get me a supervisor. After about five minutes of hold music he came back and said there was no superiors to take my call and would I like one to phone me back. I said yes please and they have 24 hours to phone me or I will be sending this letter and email to aforementioned people.
I also requested a copy of all notes, information and any details they have on my communications with customer services to be emailed to me by the close of business to night.
He was very apologetic and said he will pass the requests on to his supervisor to email me the requested date and to contact me.

I am sorry for bothering yourself directly with this problem but as you can understand, I feel I was not getting any where with your customer services and since your escalation process appeared to have failed (does it even exist?).
I feel I have been let down greatly by your company. This is my 3rd HTC phone (my first phone was a Hero) and I really liked........no sorry, liked is the wrong word. I really loved my past HTC phones and this phone as well. I was shocked and slightly saddened when I had to hand my phone over to be repaired. My HTC Hero is still going strong and being enjoyed by my younger sister.
I feel as a result of the way I've been treated I will look at other Android hand sets on the market when my time comes to change.
After some research it would appear that I am not the only person having issues with this.
Reading this web site (http://www.stewart-nash.co.uk/2010/09/htc-repair-complaint-my-customer-service-nightmare/) many others have also had issues with your customer service centre and many of them are having the same things told to them as me.
I was really hoping to have this mater sorted out before I had to pass this information on to yourself and the people I mentioned before.

As of the time I'm writing this letter/email I have not received a phone call from a customer service supervisor or any emails from a customer service supervisor.

I will be seeking compensation for the lengthy phone calls to your 0845 number for the cost of the and for the time waisted on this as well as still trying to get my phone back.

I do hope you are able to take this letter and correct the awful way it appears your customer services function and treat your loyal customers.

Regards,

see what happens after todays phone call and when I send the letter off.
Not the above letter, the better reworked one.

I doubt it though, HTC customer services seems a bit ****. :(

Motox day tomorrow. WooHoo. :D

Dane, time to add a R?

I got a free phone AND my excess back. Always worth the time writing and sending a snot-o-gram....

On a positive note, my head is ready for collection tonight, 4 days before expected.... SCORE!

Means at least I can get on that over the weekend hopefully.

I went and dropped a couple of bits off to them this morning, and the head is all clean, and the valves are all nice and shiny and clean, and sat in the head beautifully..... 'Twas enough to make a grown man cry (Not really - not until I get the bill).

pics? :D
Nice one welly. should last longer this time?
What was the rebuild like when you had it on the road?
worth it?

I don't think there is many things better than a weekend full of car antics.

This weekend I'm replacing nuckel joints, wheel bearings and a service on a patrol. wheel bearings on a trailer. service and refitting my AC on my audi.
Thats along as I dont brake something tomorrow. lol

pics? :D
Nice one welly. should last longer this time?

If not then I will be very upset. It shouldn't have not lasted as it was really, the guides weren't great but they weren't bad on a biblical scale. Basically, one of the stem seals was lifting with the valves thus not sealing at all.... Tons of oil in cylinder 4's exhaust port.

The people who are doing the head confirmed that some had lifted - cause unknown.

What was the rebuild like when you had it on the road?
worth it?

F**k yeah, there is a lot more lag there than there was with the hybrid, but when the boost comes in the thing is evil. You can feel the back end squat as it comes on boost, madness.

Just bought the girlfriend's birthday present. Perfume. (I'm a bit skinto.... lol)

I went down into town, sniffed them all in Boots, then came back to the office and bought it online for £25 less than in the shop.

RESULT! lol

I believe so, the wind back tool only goes one way, Passat is a 2000 B5.
Just says remove some brake fluid from the master and they should wind in clockwise.

Does say that you need to remove the handbrake cable to remove the originals.

Paul

I will give the 'removing the handbrake cable' a try actually, maybe it's seized slightly, just need to find an opportunity to do it!

Jojo, How did you get on with your rear calliper?
I just stripped one of mine down had the same issue of trying to get the piston to screw back in.
After some sweat, blood (no tears) and forceful pushing of the piston, it clicked in to place and I was able to screw it back in to position..
Hope this helps.

Not got round to giving it a try, the bit of rain isn't helping, so it 'clicked' into place then huh?

I had a look at the vid you posted up also, I think the internal part of the piston may come too far out and ran out of thread for the auto adjustment of the handbrake, so I'm looking to clicking it back into place.

Yeah, I just pushed down and wiggled it at the same time.
It eventually clicked in to place and sat up right.

Hope your all having a lovely time at work, couple of days off for me!

Currently in the gym, then home to paint my lads bedroom!
