Dane's Hybrid Conversion Thread

power steering and everything! :nyah:

to be fair its a good little run around, £30 for 80% of a tank.

OEM all the way baby

I reallly want to lower it, really really really

Here is a fellow Neeeeeesan which has been slammed - maybe this approach would work?

might get to work quicker!

- Bill is there anything I can take pictures of later? save me driving over if nothing exciting has happened.

its in bits.. no exhaust, no downpipe, no turbo...... thanks to tuffty
I was fighting the manifold... which is a fecking **** of a job.. change of tack on this and new fittings ordered which I hope will ease the manufacture. All jigged up now.. just waiting on these new parts.

Nice one chaps! Are you around this evening?

Right so I've just got back from Bills - it feels like it takes forever in the micra!

The turbo now has a hole in it where it should be

Empty space where the mani and turbo usually are

And a turbo and manifold that looked to be in pretty good nick bit blurry though lol.

I'm going to go back on Wednesday to maybe see some manifold action mmmmm

I might get lucky with a milltek too they were due for production this week apparently so we shall see. Canne wait like!

This is 29 Acacia Road...

And this is Dane - the man who leads an amazing double life...

For when Dane gets in his Micra, an amazing transformation occurs...

Dane is Micraman! Ever alert for the call to action!

huh? too many espresso's Welly?

Oh thats just not fair! He always said he would never make one. Wheres my dummy i need to spit it out of my pram lmao

Bill's not silly. He knows that if his mani is good then they'll sell like hot cakes ;)

It's currently a very small market, with very few known to be long term reliable items in it at the end of the day. Well worth experimentation at least.

Is the turbo being done without the head coming off ? :)

No doubt, Bill's manifold will get a lot of thought going into, could be the birth of the Badger5 K04 manifold lol

Hey hey someone noticed! Yep the head is still on, although I may well have a leaky rocker cover seal.

Ahhh leaky rocker cover......10min job for Welly, Paul and Bill lol

Will be interesting to see what the results are with this hybrid build, especially with the custom manifold

manifold wise its an experiment.. and quite costly one for me in time and parts... but as I have no confidence in anything otherwise available currently (edit: forgot about the TSR one.. ruled out on cost basis only, not quality), needs must... Its not a simple job... We will see what transpires.

I didnt commision Bill to make the mani, I'm just the willing test subject

Well good on you Bill for pushing the boundries if it wasnt for you i think we'd still be at about 320 bhp on the hybrids just a shame i had to be one of the first. So how much of a nightmare was it to take the manifold of with out the head off?

Bore size that lets it down - it's simply too big and makes the little lagless K04 drive like a BT car from what I have seen and heard....

Hi Welly,

Do you have any data or links you can share from the example(s) you have seen/heard about ?

As far as I know only two are actually in existence... mine & one that I think was sold to someone from SCN but I have not heard anything more about that one… hence my interest in what you know.

A bit more lag was indeed observed during our own first tests but we are not talking about a huge amount..

After a little fettling the impact on spool times were quiet negligible... present yes but small. To be honest with some more tweaks I think it quiet possible they could be eliminated almost completely. (Bearing in mind the turbo also has a slightly weaker actuator, & ported waste gate compared to the logs I posted ages ago made with the stock mani)

Here is one log of our mani testing where we have saturated the MAP sensor by 3120rpm, so I would hardly describe that as lag similar to what’s seen with BT's.. would you ?

That paints a somewhat different picture to the data that I saw...

In retrospect, and taking the above into account that is not bad at all hitting full boost at 3100 is indeed not bad at all.

I will try and find the data I saw - I can't remember where it was as I was looking into it back when I was changing manifold every 2 mins late last year...

If I find it I shall PM you.

Adding to this, I have just glanced at the outputs from the hybrid on the XS power mani - that wasn't reaching full boost until 3500 using smaller runners than the TSR...
