Quick Question:

Is there any way/what would I need to make an auto dim dip mirror fit onto my a3, apart from the mirror obviously..

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Chris

Just the mirror I would think, as long as the loom is there. Remove the top cover and there should be a small sqaure plug

I replaced mine last year as the 'juice' fell out.

Just to clarify, I don't have one at the moment, only a poor man's manual dipping mirror. Do you still think all the electrics would be there?

Barks, was the 'Juice' brown stuff all over the bottom edge of the mirror glass?!

I didn't think the 'auto-dimming' was very good if that is the case lol.

Do auto-dimming mirrors require a different windscreen. I know the 8P A3 has a weird type of nut built into the glass, but not sure about the 8L model. If you're successful I would really like to do this mod too.

Keep me updated mate, although I think you bought the one I was going to get!!

Never mind, there's still a couple on the bay, I thought about it as it would be a nice little touch to add to the car

As the 8L didnt have auto lights then dont believe it needs different screen fixing as etka shows only 2, difference being chassis label window in one not other, although it has a loom to connect to the mirror, it appears to use same fixings.

There maybe a loom there as my auto dimming sides worked straight of the bat, but audi change there minds even within same chassis builds, so maybe it wont be wired already.

Thanks alot, so to be on the safe side, it's best to get a mirror with a loom?

No, to be on safe side remove the overhead light assembly & check for wiring 1st, then buy what you need.

If it does fit S3 Baby, can you take a picture of your wiring in the interior light so I can see if mines the same? If you could, that'd be great.

And I know that if I see you selling a dim dip mirror in the classifieds section, that it hasn't worked and not to waste my time trying it

How many more parts do you want to buy from S3 Baby haha ;)

I've now added some more on the end for clarification! The brakes are being fitted today, so I'll finally be able to try all the bits out later.
And, to answer your question, if he keeps selling things that I need, for a decent price, I'll keep buying them :lmfao:

Did anyone get round to doing a guide? It would be very helpful :)

Any difference between the A3 and S3 mirror? I just thought they were both just stuck to the windscreen..

hi there - did you manage to fit this successfully?

how was it listed on ebay? i notice there are some for golf mkiv and boras etc.......are they the same?.any part numbers?

thanks in advance!

I've fitted an Auto Dimming Mirror (ADM) which I bought from eBay for £25. Simply remove old mirror and attach new one. The wiring harness attaches to a plug in the roof console as previously mentioned on this thread. The attachment to the windscreen is exactly the same as the existing mirror (assuming you order the right one) and the only wire you need to install (if you can be bothered) is to de-power the mirror when lights are on and reverse gear is selected. Had it for about 3 months now and it works great. I can take some pics of the install at the weekend but to be honest it's dead easy and simple to do. A few pics:

It was from an A4, but they are universal for A3 and A4 from this age. Shape and fitment is identical.

I's love to do this mod too. How does it connect to the windscreen?

In exactly the same way as the original. A round metal bracket is already glued to the windscreen and the new mirror attaches to this just the same as your original does. There are a couple of pieces of plastic trim to hide the cable but that's it.

I have looked for the plug but cannot find one. However there is this on the back of the lighting unit. Two spare connections, anyone know what they are for?

my car has this already got quite lucky as it came with heated seats, mirror, headlight washers, auto dimming mirror and the bose kit

I'll have a look at mine later when the wife gets back and post some pics.........

Does anybody know which part of the lighting roof console the auto-dimming mirror connects to? Is it just plug and play?

i have this mirror but theres brown liquid all over it...take it as that means its broke lol?
